That's just a holding floor. Those number don't mean much.

I wonder what kind of contract it'd take to sign him....for us it woul dhave to be < 5.5 mil or no go.

This. It really will take us nothing to pry this guy away. The shoulder must really be an issue.

5 years 30 mill would get the job done. I don't think they'd match that. Let's be honest though, atogwe doesn't want to return to St Louis, especially when you consider we're on a verge of a dynasty. The thing that scares me though is spagnuolo is one of the best d minded coaches out there, why doesn't he make a push to keep him? Hit him with a 1st rounder tender at least.
Our limit is 5.5 million on one player. After that we'd have top cut someone or lose someone to FA at that much or more before we could pay that.

No, we can pay one guy $5,807,475 OR MORE in his first year, plus annual increases. There's no limit for what we can pay him this year.

no its unlimited his 1st year, 90% sure.

The Rams are bringing in Brodney Poole for a looksee*, so they may not match an offer to Atogwe.

According to PFT*

I edited my post, it was from a PFT source, so take it for what it's worth. I like Poole but would be concerned about his concussions.

He is better than Bethea, and for nothing!

Take him, offer 3 year 22m 12m guaranteed 8-10m signing bonus

I have heard somewhere that people were saying its useless to get him hes too old, Ken Hamlin is 29, O.A is 28.

(make singing bonus high to make the rams unlikely to match it since they are getting/got a new owner and more than likely would be unwilling either way to pay a huge lump sum of money)

didn't realize atogwe was 28 (29 when the season starts), however, I'd still go after him, just would be less.

Go get him, Jerry.

well you just completely contradicted yourself.

That Boeing 777 just flew entirely over your head, twice.

Until he can pass a physical (which I read somewhere would be awhile) he probably isnt going to get signed by anyone, and its most likely why the Rams didnt tender him with a bigger offer. Otherwise, Spagnoulo is a very good defensive coach, if he doesnt like him its a red flag IMO.

Atogwe isn't a big name guy, he's been under the radar, they know they couldn't get a 1st round pick for him.

You can't be serious with this comment. NFL teams are more sophisticated than that. If they get a 1st round pick for a guy, it is because the team signing him did their research and thought it was a better option than whatever they would get at that pick in the draft, not because he has a big name or whatever. They are not like the average fan

Adam, I can't be positive, but I seem to remember hearing that we could sign any number of restricted free agents without limits on salary. Is that not correct?

If the 'Boys find a way to sign Atogwe, re-sign Sensabaugh, release Hamlin, and draft Myron Rolle in Round 3 in April's draft, I would be the happiest fan this side of the Zone.

The Depth Chart could look like this

FS - (1) Atogwe (2) Michael Hamlin (3) Rolle
SS - (1) Sensabaugh (2) Rolle

I must admit that I'm not a huge draft guy, but I think Rolle in round 3 is a pretty big stretch. I like him a lot better in 5 or 6.

And Ken Hamlin isn't that bad when you check the stats out. He's not a "ballhawk," but he's solid and doesn't give up many yards.

Oshiomogho Atogwe should be on Cowboys' radar

By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News
We all think safety is one of the Cowboys' biggest needs this off-season. They can fill their need in the draft or in free agency and they might be forced to look in free agency if some team comes after Gerald Sensabaugh.

Over the weekend his agent said three or four teams have expressed interest but visits haven't been scheduled yet. The Cowboys put the second-round tender on Sensabaugh, who started 15 games last year.

Antrel Rolle was the best unrestricted free agent available and the New York Giants signed him to a five-year, $37 million deal with $15 million guaranteed on the first day of free agency.

So far the Cowboys haven't gotten into the free-agent market, but we're here to help. We'll offer up a name and do some side-by-side comparison based solely on the numbers from the NFL's Web site.

Oshiomogho Atogwe.

The St. Louis Rams safety is a restricted free agent but he was given the lowest tender possible, which means there is no draft compensation. There has to be some concern because Atogwe's 2009 season ended after right shoulder surgery. And there's also the Ken Hamlin thing that would have to be figured out, unless the Cowboys wouldn't match a deal for Sensabaugh.

But let's look at the numbers for Atogwe, Rolle and Hamlin since 2006. It's not exactly apples to apples because Rolle was a cornerback for Arizona in 2006-07 before moving to safety, but ...

Hamlin - 4.7 tackles per game, 3 sacks, 9 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles
Rolle - 4.9 tackles per game, 1.5 sacks, 11 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles
Atogwe - 5.1 tackles per game, 2 sacks, 18 interceptions, 14 forced fumbles

Atogwe turns 29 in June. Hamlin is 29; Rolle 27. I'm not going to pretend to know all there is about Atogwe's game and his health but the numbers are in his favor.

Is there an opportunity here the Cowboys should pursue?
