Tackle Darrion Weems hurting himself while lifting weights.

“He dropped the 325-pound bench press bar on his chest,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “So he’s dealing with that right now.”

Weems, who had a thumb issue that weakened his grip, missed practice Sunday and is not expected to participate in drills Monday. Garrett, who has seen accidents like the one Weems experienced, said he didn’t know if the lineman had a spotter supervising him.

“I’m sure it’s pretty painful,” Garrett added. “We’ll see how he is day-to-day.”

This may be a silly question, but is there not some type of protocol that exist in the NFL making this kind of thing mandatory?

Man we sure do find creative ways to get injured! What's next a concussion because someone brushed their teeth too hard?

that's a scary thing for sure he's lucky he's not hurt worse...i've seen some bad stuff happen in those circumstances.

when i was in high school a friend of mine dropped a bar on his mouth and wrecked his teeth...he had a spotter but they had a miscommunication and he thought the spotter had the weight of the bar so he let go....nasty thing to see.

I agree, had a guy in high school have a fairly serious rib/lung injury. He ended up being ok but that was it football wise for him. Good thing he's ok.

Who ever would let their spotter hold 100% of the weight? That's ridiculously dumb.

well and i didn't spell it out completely it's not like he was pushing up and then let go...he had it all the way up and was getting ready to put it back on the rack and the spotter put his hands under it to help.

either way it's not a good idea to let it go until it's on the rack i agree.

A 325 bench is not that much, really. I hope it was after many, many reps becasue that dude is huge.

On the same token.. Wow, another overreaction from another fan who has no idea what they're talking about. Shame how far our fans have fallen..

How the heck do you know it wasn't a warmup yet? You don't.. the article doesn't specify, but you sure were quick to assume it was his max. When I was lifting, some sets were always sets of 10.. so if my max was 295, we would do stuff like 175x10..185x10,195x10 as a set. Our fans truly may be the worst in the NFL.

I was gonna make a joke about Arkin being with him and unable to lift the bar off his chest and that's why he got hurt, etc... but I'm gonna pass (sort of).

SMH.... Everyone knows their body and their limits. If you are trying something in the danger zone, get Dan Bailey to spot you at the very least.

Or use the chest press for explosiveness. Sigh*

Weems actually plays with good power. Skil/technique, not so much.
