He does that so well that the Cowboys are Bottom 5 every year and can only get JAGs to sign in Free Agency while non-performing Players like Dez and Crawford collect the Big Money.

Your 2 posts so far are....well, I won't make that comment. Try to be positive this early in the morning it ill make your entire day start off better.

Yeah. Keeping Dez and Witten is like poking a few more holes in the ship just to make sure it sinks.

Garrett and this staff and schemes is a much bigger hole that the finger sized hole of Dez and Witten.
It is like the ship hitting that ice berg Garrett as opposed to a slushy of players.

you guys realize theres ton more involved than simply cutting player, you don't save all that much and now you have to replace that player..so some of that money or all of the savings goes to replacing them, what can you get for that much less money for the replacement players? you than realize will they be more productive?the same AND dead money still hangs over that positions..you may think getting a starter to replace witten and dez will help but really whats the replacements going to do? id say their start numbers might be down but their 2017 output while weren't up to snuff , they are in line with most starters at their positions..so you aren't saving much money adding players you aren't sure of their production for that new season..

the thing with witten is hes still in the lineup every down he knows the offense well and is a locker room and fan favorite..he deserves to go out on his own terms and i believe this is his last season..Dez I agree he should take a restructure that cuts his base salary and guaranteed money and have incentives in there that can earn it back..

Lastly the entire offense dropped off lall their numbers and Dak had a bad 2nd half of the season so i think there are real reasons they dropped off and i believe they will bounce back this year Bease, Dez, and witten and all due to Dak getting back to 2016 and first half of 2017 form and having zeke just ball out again..it was just bad year for the offense Tsmith a new LG and backup RT are sorely needed to make this all go..if dez and witten were the only ones that just didn't perform and had down years id be more on board with cutting them both, it just isn't true..it was a domino effect all the way from the line down..

Man, this makes entirely too much sense. many on here as well as the Dez haters won't or can't or will refuse understand this.
One can prove a point over and over, solidly. But many will still keep the blinders on and stick to their not so sound opinions.

I respectfully disagree. If you cut Dez you save $12.5 million this year and whatever his salary is next year. You could cut Dez and sign someone like Watkins, get an experienced player with about half the cap hit and actually increase production. We could also go even cheaper and go with a WR in rounds 1-4 and save even more. Anything after the first round would save us somewhere in the $10m per year plus range.

So if we go with a draft pick instead of Dez we save about $20 million PLUS by getting away from Dez. If the production is anywhere close it's a huge win. Huge.

As for Witten we could get away from witten with zero dead money. Zero. Hanna would be an immediate upgrade with no additional cost. We could draft someone like Andrews maybe as low as the 4th round. You get more production for less money.

You guys who want to keep Dez and Witten aren't being objective. Dez has sucked for 3 years and you want to blame Dak? Yeah Dez could suddenly have a great year in year 4, but the smart money is betting against it based on his really bad prior 3 years. I would move on from him. I would prefer he not be on the team even with a salary reduction.

Witten is catching balls because other teams WANT Witten catching balls because you use a sun dial to measure Witten's 40. They know he is going to get 5 yards on 3rd and 7 and he isn't going to block anyone.

There really is no evidence that Watkins would improve production AT ALL. Not only that but probably reduced production which makes an evaluation of Dak even harder next year.

This way of thinking based on the false assumption that Dez can actually still play and it would take superman to replace Dez. That's a fallacy. There is probably no receiver in the NFL that does less than Dez does for the number of targets he receives.

You could take pretty much any average NFL receiver or any draft pick in the top 4 rounds and force the ball to them the same number of targets as Dez and the production would exceed Dez level of production. That's reality.

Patient, reasonable and logical. Not a good fit for the unwashed masses, overreacting and screaming for expensive rebuilds.

Reality is, Dez can still be productive. Many other factors involved and it starts with the playbook, and the Qb running it as part of that problem. Yes Dez has his warts, but you are just gearing your viewpoint that Dez is done. which he is not.
I would bet you view of Dez's production vs. targets is not as bad as you and many say it is.

Every year fans need a whipping boy, and this year it is Dez. So be it. As usual many want him cut or gone, or they want him to fail so they can say they were right, as opposed to say..hey, it is a team thing, fix it. And let's be successful. but no, that means having to possibly say something good about a designated whipping boy.

And you are in a fantasy world if you think a top 4 round draft pick can come in here and exceed Dez. When it usually takes a good 2 to 3 years for even most WR's in round 1 and 2 to make their impact in the NFL.

We will do what we have to and keep alll of our big players from last year and be able to sign draft picks. Let s hope we have a good draft with a few immediate impact players.

Cut Mayowa, Hanna, Scandrick.............. three guys we don't really need. Saves $7MM in cap space.

Restructure Witten. He should not be a $7MM cap hit.

Restructure Frederick. He's not a long term risk in terms of future high cap hits.

Restructure Bryant. Add a voidable year. The downside is that the 2019 cap hit would be enormous.

Here's an outside the box cut......... Beasley. Saves close to $4MM. I think Switzer can be just as effective.

First of all expect the Cowboys to negotiate a contract with Tank to spread the $ over several years and reduce his cap hit in 2018. Second look for negotiations with Martin to begin with earnest. Three expect Dez's contract to be renegotiated and extended to reduce his cost in 2018. When those three things happen, then we can talk how much cap space is left

In fairness to you, no one really knows if Dez can rebound or not. It is conceivably possible that he could return to his pre "getting paid" form. I don't think he will. You do. I respect your opinion on it and quite frankly if Dez stays I hope you turn out to be right on this issue.

On the other hand, the problem I have with your point of view is that you are conveniently ignoring the fact that he has quite literally underperformed for three straight years (after getting paid) and ASSUME that it is going to take something great to replace Dez' production. You are ASSUMING Dez' production is pre contract signing Dez.

While I agree that COULD happen, I don't see that as a safe assumption. It is quite honestly wishful thinking.

If you are going to assume something (which is fine) why not project Dez going forward based on his most recenct three years? Isn't that more realistic? I mean, Dez is getting OLDER not younger, the wear and tear is adding up on his body, Dak isn't going away, at least this year (moderately safe assumption) and Dez' comments seem to indicate he feels the heat and is panicking at least a small amount.

Dez hasn't said anything about hey I realize I have sucked three straight years so I am going to really concentrate on route running. The indications are that Dez is going to "shut up his detractors" by doing the same thing he has always done. That's probably not a recipe for success for Dez.

When Dez does the same thing he has always done and he gets the same result I don't see Dez looking in the mirror and saying "It's my fault". He is going to melt down and pile on Dak. At least that's the direction it seems to be going. The coaches will be thrown under the bus too. You can see it coming.

So projecting what Dez will do this year he could "go off" and "beast" as the Dez Fan Bois like to say. But isn't it more likely that Dez will decline a little bit more this year and drop off in his production just at least to a small degree?

I think a drop off is more likely, unless he reinvents himself. I would love to see that, but he doesn't seem to see that his failure to progress is part of the problem. If he hasn't accepted that fact then why would he change anything?

I would be much more aggressive in revamping the team. I would not kick the Dez can down the road. I would cut Dez and draft a receiver somewhere in the draft. I would not force the pick. I would roll with what we have at receiver plus a rookie. That would save us $20 million dollars over the next two years. We didn't suffer when Dez was out. That tells me Dez isn't bringing much to the table.

I would cut Witten. I would start Hanna and use his speed and blocking ability. Instant upgrade in both the running game and passing game. Save $7 milion. Easy decision. Draft a tight end somewhere in the draft.

I would probably cut Mayowa. I would be looking for a project DE somewhere in the draft, but you don't pay one. You are already paying Lawrence, Tapper, Taco and Irving. Let Mayowa go and save the cap hit. Caveat--If Irving is claimed for a second it might change things here.

OScan--- yeah, great minds think alike. You trade him or cut him and you save your cap money.

I wouldn't restructure anyone if a I didn't have to. Stop kicking the can down the road.

We probably won't win a super bowl this year with this roster as presently comprised. So you save your cap money and keep your powder dry so we can pay a real free agent when it's our year and the opportunity presents itself. Bring young hungry guys in to compete and maybe they play better with more upside than the guys you let go.

Maybe so. I probably wouldn't cut Beasley. I would find a way to get Beasley and Switzer on the field at the same time. I would probably play Switzer as the 3rd down back some and use him in the passing game. He and Beasley are slippery as hell. Don't you think the Hoodie would have them both on the field at the same time?
