Our choices as fans after that presser

Well, Bob, I'm 67, and it's been a while, but this year I'm going to be happy why? because this whole thing is going to blow up in Jerry's face.
it's going to be painful for Cowboys fans like us.. But watching Jerry go down in flames will be worth every minute.

Jerry's going to find out what it's like to be booed in mass every time he shows his face, and he's going to find out that the media is not going to listen to the bs he puts out year after year.. i expect to see him on the sidelines during games before it's all over lol.
I’m 66 and agree with all you say except “it’s going to be painful.” I’m at the point where my disdain for Jerry outweighs the wins because we all know the endgame. I root for losses every game. I really enjoy every defeat and the bigger the margin, the better. My week goes much better at least thinking the old man may be crying somewhere.

So after all the posts about not buying merchandise (which I do not buy) (not to stick it to the team, because I don’t want or need anything, I already have too much)
Telling fans Not to go to games,
Not to support them, but yet talking about them is supporting them.

Opening day you all will be here watching on TV. Yes, you know you will.
If you believe on what you tell others to do. Then why even vent. Yes, it makes you feel better, so be it.
Free Entertainment. Better than going to the movies. Plenty of action and drama in here. :muttley:

After listening to that weird word salad presser to introduce our next puppet, er I mean head coach, I came away feeling as empty as I did watching those conference championship games yesterday. After hearing the words, “humbled”, “competitor” and “those players behind you” over and over again, it just seemed….empty. I mean I’m 66 and the last time we won even a divisional playoff game I was 37. With the same guys in charge.

So…just my opinions of course, but some takeaways from the press conference:
  • Schottenheimer or “Schotty“ as the Jones boys like to call him said “all the right things”. Not exactly unique or inspiring but ok. (For the record I’ve got nothing against this guy. Hope he succeeds. If he does with this FO it will be a sports miracle)
  • There were a couple of non-softball questions, the best coming from Dallas columnist Tim Cowlishaw who asked, “In this 29 season drought, as GM, you’ve hired 8 different coaches. No other GM has had that luxury. Tell the fans how that luxury has worked for the team”. Great question but of course there was no answer. Just a rambling crazy collection of platitudes that meant nothing.
  • Another good q came from someone I didn’t catch their name. “What do you plan on doing differently as a front office to support your new head coach?” The 30 second Answer came from Giggles Jones who literally said the word “certainly” 8 times. His near meaningless answer did not include anything they will do different. Other than “get some better players”.
So what are our choices as fans? Nothing will change from the guys at the top. They told us that today. To me, here are our choices as fans:
  • “Believe” in the Jones boys and their new HC despite the last three decades of evidence that they aren’t good at putting a roster together that competes for anything beyond a wild card win every 5-10 years. Continue “buying” what’s being sold.
  • Take the “I will believe it WHEN it happens” position which I have had the last decade. Don’t buy anything. No tickets, no merch, nada.
  • Or just stop being a fan of the team. I wont do that because I‘ve been a fan 25 years longer than Jerry has owned the team. I refuse to let that fool steal my favorite team.
One other option for the fans who are season ticket holders to make a statement: Select one game collectively as a group - like the home opener - where you don’t show up AND don’t sell your tix either. I know that’s one statement that would send a message.

Whatever any of us choose to do, I firmly believe unless we have a truly historic “sports miracle”, until Jerry and Stephen are not running this thing, we are going to keep getting what we’ve had for thee decades. A wild card win every 5-10 years.
I think the fans answer(s) will speak loud and clear, and they won't have to say anything.
The truth is that Jerry is out of excuses, and the fans simply don't love the Cowboys franchise he has built.
What is there to love? The uniforms?
Those uniforms don't mean anything when they aren't accompanied by greatness. The Cowboys no longer embody the values that made fans love them.
How can anyone love what this franchise stands for? How can anyone cheer a team that is only begging you to spend your money on them to keep them up?
The franchise doesn't give back.
Jerry has made it clear that this is his team, not America's Team.

There's another option. Don't view winning a championship as the end goal. Enjoy the games individually because you enjoy football. Sure, it's disappointing when you lose but you need that to make the joy from winning seem better. If they win it all, that's great. If they don't, there were 31 other teams that also didn't win it all that year. You can also watch other teams play. Something a lot of fans here overlook.

i cant eat for 2 days after a cowboys loss

The whole thing creeped me out Bob!

Honestly it was weird. I’ll just paste what I said in another thread but what scares me more is a guy like this…emotional, players love, good guy, high energy…gets chosen on those traits and not football traits. You have to imagine this has been his personality over 25 years and as his 14 as OC. So why did it never translate into more? No substance. The only fools buying are the Clampetts

So my choice is to be highly skeptical and laugh at the circus. Honestly can they get a good season out of high energy with no substance? Maybe 1. But this looks messy.

I didnt watch a game until Thanksgiving last year because of the awful offseason they had while everyone else in the division got better. Havent bought any merch in years. Actually canceled a trip to come down and see the stadium last year. If they have a similiar offseason this year, it will be more of the same in the fall

thank you lee

The one thing, Brian said. How they all want to do things for the fans did bother me. It was like an after thought. Doing things for the fans. Well what have they really done for is?
Maybe he has a plan.

I know it was a cliche thing to say. I am amazed no one else picked up on that and talked about it yet.

Well, you saved a lot of money then. And can do so again.

Unless you spend it on a better trip. :muttley:

Nothing will change. This was the 1st year since the 80s I've never watched the Cowboys play. The problem is there are too many fans who don't care if they win or lose. They just go the stadium to have fun. It's a free country and their money to spend (now Jones's money). Good luck with someone buying a ticket and not attending the game, especially given the prices. They will sell their ticket. Look at how many away fans were at our stadium this season. Jones doesn't care anymore. He realizes he will never win a SB again. If you watched the episode of Landman with him in it, this is about his legacy. What is he leaving to his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, etc. Winning is no longer a priority for him. Being the most valuable franchise on the planet is ($10.1 billion). That's the one "trophy" no one will take from him before he's gone.

There's nothing fans can do. They are powerless. Just thank Jerry for another dreadful season.
