Our choices as fans after that presser

What pissed me off the most is when they talked about what he was going to do "rarely" He said not one word about the defense. That's what I want to hear about. Will the new defensive coordinator have a press conference? I don't care how many points' Dak and the offense puts up. If the defense giving up 25 or better. We're going to suck.

Well, hopefully it's going to be more of a run the ball type team like in 2014. Playing keep away isn't a bad idea if that's the plan. I am guessing that Eberflus is going to be the one describing the defence. I'd have liked to have heard Schotty on that, but I can understand if he's going to defer that to Eberflus.

After listening to that weird word salad presser to introduce our next puppet, er I mean head coach, I came away feeling as empty as I did watching those conference championship games yesterday. After hearing the words, “humbled”, “competitor” and “those players behind you” over and over again, it just seemed….empty. I mean I’m 66 and the last time we won even a divisional playoff game I was 37. With the same guys in charge.

So…just my opinions of course, but some takeaways from the press conference:
  • Schottenheimer or “Schotty“ as the Jones boys like to call him said “all the right things”. Not exactly unique or inspiring but ok. (For the record I’ve got nothing against this guy. Hope he succeeds. If he does with this FO it will be a sports miracle)
  • There were a couple of non-softball questions, the best coming from Dallas columnist Tim Cowlishaw who asked, “In this 29 season drought, as GM, you’ve hired 8 different coaches. No other GM has had that luxury. Tell the fans how that luxury has worked for the team”. Great question but of course there was no answer. Just a rambling crazy collection of platitudes that meant nothing.
  • Another good q came from someone I didn’t catch their name. “What do you plan on doing differently as a front office to support your new head coach?” The 30 second Answer came from Giggles Jones who literally said the word “certainly” 8 times. His near meaningless answer did not include anything they will do different. Other than “get some better players”.
So what are our choices as fans? Nothing will change from the guys at the top. They told us that today. To me, here are our choices as fans:
  • “Believe” in the Jones boys and their new HC despite the last three decades of evidence that they aren’t good at putting a roster together that competes for anything beyond a wild card win every 5-10 years. Continue “buying” what’s being sold.
  • Take the “I will believe it WHEN it happens” position which I have had the last decade. Don’t buy anything. No tickets, no merch, nada.
  • Or just stop being a fan of the team. I wont do that because I‘ve been a fan 25 years longer than Jerry has owned the team. I refuse to let that fool steal my favorite team.
One other option for the fans who are season ticket holders to make a statement: Select one game collectively as a group - like the home opener - where you don’t show up AND don’t sell your tix either. I know that’s one statement that would send a message.

Whatever any of us choose to do, I firmly believe unless we have a truly historic “sports miracle”, until Jerry and Stephen are not running this thing, we are going to keep getting what we’ve had for thee decades. A wild card win every 5-10 years.
Another excellent post. I always enjoy reading. All the best.

Jerry got his guy, a company yes man that will tow the company line. Nobody in this league was requesting an interview for this guy with a promotion let alone a HC offer. This entire organization is "too comfortable"

Basically apathy. Same. There's literally nothing to look forward to with this franchise.
And because of that I barely watched much of them. Which is the first time in my life as a die hard It’s almost peaceful at this point. I used to get worked up and caught up in the games. I finally made peace with the fact that , until Jerry and SJ completely hand over football operations, nothing will ever change. Sad, as I am much like all of you in my love for the Cowboys. But not investing in them anymore.

I will approach 2025 just like I did 2024. Watch without emotion.

The are headed toward a Campo-like era in Dallas. The division has two really good teams and the conference has a bunch of good teams with a significant number of rising ball clubs. The Cowboys are definitely on the decline and have lst significant ground going into 2025. There are just too many holes to fill and the guy that eats up most of the cap is maybe a top 10 player at his position. It doesn't matter who the coach is, Jerry has been exposed, again, as a man without a plan. The Texas wildcatter hasn't struck oil lately and now his fields have run dry.

We didn’t even ask for an interview.
Did not you hear Jerry say he knows coaches all about them he even calls people about them, what more could you want than all that osmosis the last 51 years

I will continue watch for entertainment purposes, with little to no expectations. I will be more surprised, when they win games, than I will be when they lose. I will not spend a dime on the Cowboys and have not for almost a decade.

I’m firmly here:

Take the “I will believe it WHEN it happens” position which I have had the last decade. Don’t buy anything. No tickets, no merch, nada.

I’ve decided to use my money and time for different things.

I’m not going to invest either in a product that I don’t feel deserves it. Or a product run by tone deaf people.

I can’t control what they do. But I can control what I do.
This 100%
No money spent
Watch them if i can but dont go out of my way. If i miss a few games, no biggie
Watch the game expecting them to lose to the top 10-15 teams

Hey Bobby H, I love the don’t show up to the game suggestion! That would force the Botox right out of JJ face as he tried to force a smile for the cameras!!!! An almost empty stadium would send a great message to JJ and his two dimwit sons!!!!!!

You guys would be "happier" if you adopted my philosophy. I just assume, every year, that they are going to set the record and go 0-17. This way, each victory is cause for celebration and each loss in no skin off my nose because a loss was expected. Disappointment, anger, and hurt simply goes away. But the thrill of a win remains. Think about it.

We made the PLAYOFFS? Hot Diggity! Whoda thunk it from an 0-17 team?

BULLET!
Financially boycott the Cowboys. Don't buy any official products and that will perhaps make Jerry take notice. As long as Jerry is showing a profit in retail and on home gamedays, this destructive behavior will never change.

Unfortunately, there are too many ill informed fans out there to make that a reality. Losing and embarrassment is the best that we can hope for at this time for any significant change.

If you didn't come away from that presser feeling hopeful for the Cowboys future, then IMO you are detached from your emotions. Schotty has passion for this game and a connection with the players that goes a long way. It doesn't feel like we are starting all over with BS at the helm.

I don’t know if this is being discussed because I haven’t read through the whole thread, so if it’s been discussed I apologize.

Did anyone catch what Jerry said in the presser? He was talking about HCs and he said he always wanted to be a head coach but didn’t want to make HC money. Then he made some joke about now he wishes he did because of the cars they drive. Let’s dissect this, let’s peel back some layers
1. Jerry said he always wanted to be a HC. That sounds like he’s jealous or feels some kind of way about not being a HC. This gives some insight on the Jimmy thing and how he’s treated HCs since then. I still think Jerry is hurt/emotionally injured that Jimmy didn’t include Jerry in the coaches toast after the 2nd Super Bowl win.
2. Jerry directly referenced coaches not making much money so he went a different direction in his life to make money. I wonder if Jerry doesn’t like overall idea of coaches getting paid like star players. Coaches being in the 10-20 million a season club.

If you give a narcissist enough time they will eventually tell on themselves. It’s inevitable. It’s part of the mental disorder. They always reveal their insecurities. It slips out of them. I think Jerry just told on himself.

So to quote a poster who is on quest to be a moderator:
Thoughts

I think there might be another choice I would say the people on this form are pretty serious fans serious cowboy fans.

Think another choice might be just become a casual fan of football in general of course follow the Cowboys but don't go out of your way to live and die with it learn to be able to watch some of the other teams and appreciate other good football being played so you could still enjoy the game as a hobby.

For me at my age after following the team for so long this is a difficult ask but for my own mental self-preservation it may be the only option left as there is no light at the end of this tunnel in my lifetime.

Find some of the other teams that you may like parts of and watch their games and enjoy them for what they are I like watching Dan Campbell get animated and fire his players up Josh Allen is another guy that's great to watch Derrick Henry attracts me to his game.

Saquon Barkley is a remarkable runner and a very nice human being and individual although he is on the team I hate the most so that's out.

I liked watching Brady with the buccaneers how he could transform that team and inspire a whole group of men to heights that they could never be inspired to by anyone else.

That's part of what I believe we like about football certain individuals being coaches or players that are leaders of men and can inspire others to play way above their heads why Roger Staubach and Tom Landry will forever be emblazoned in our minds as the best of the best.

Also why we are so down heartened at this point because there are no leaders of men on this team and the coach we just hired you can look in his eyes and see he doesn't have the it Factor he just doesn't have the eye of the tiger nice guy good coach but not a guy that's going to win you the Super bowl and the rest of our circus is only leading themselves to the bank that's all they care about

We've just got to suck it up, cheer for the team and hope.

The other options make us bitter. I know I've struggled with being a fan more this year than ever before but I've decided I can't do a thing so just wait it out and enjoy the wins when they happen.
I can't do that when I know it's a farce, and pointless to even try. I can't ignore absurdities. I can't lie to myself and believe it just to feel better.

I choose believe....I wouldn't be here, if chose anything else. I had shirts made for my staff, one off season...they said, IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE, YOU DON'T BELONG.
I may not like many things about our team, but complaining without doing anything about it is a weakness..so, I have zero issues with fans walking away...If I felt like them, I'd have been gone a long time ago. In the meantime, Go Cowboys!
