The thing is Jason made it hard for a lot of people to think he was a good coach because of the in game stuff for 3 1/2 years. Good coaches dont have the stuff happen in games that he had happen, its just a fact. And a lifetime football guy, even as an inexperienced HC shouldnt have a lot of that stuff happen. Nobody questioned his organizational or locker room stuff, just on Sundays during the games.

The Red h o m e r s wont accept it, but the only thing that has changed is the coaches under Red. Reality says they have made the biggest difference. Most of these guys on offense have been with Red for years so anybody that thinks all of a sudden it all just clicked this year with the same ole same ole process are in denial. Facts and results just dont lie.

This year has been different and its been fun.

The Red Homers don't except that because it's untrue. He's ways been a good coach. He did well to be in contention each of the last the seasons while improving his staff and his personnel. Almost nothing we've said about him during that time has turned out to be wrong. What's different is that the narrow losses are getting replaced by wins as the team has gotten better production from adding better players.

Nice thread, by the way.

You don't what was said or the true nature of that discussion. I love how people fill in the blanks with their bull****.

I've just had to let it go. people seem to always hear / believe a headline but when the story contradicts it, well we'll adjust the story to fit the headline. ie, the way they feel about it. their mind won't change regardless of information that comes out. if that information proves them wrong, discredit the path in which it came and continue shouting incorrect statements.

I hope Bill stays...if he goes I hope the Oline still plays well in the future.

Hope Linehan stays as with the exception of a head scratcher he has done a good job.

Hope Rod stays on...I think this year he has turned chicken excrement into chicken salad. It might not be the best salad going in the NFL but it is a definite step up from the chicken excrement they served last year. I would like to see what he could do with a few more decent defensive rookies and FAs. Would like to see how Lawrence will do with him after getting a full healthy offseason to bulk up. So far he has not really impressed but he was a rookie coming off an injury so who knows what the future holds.

Like for Dooley to continue the work he has been doing with Dez.

Eberflus to continue the work he has been doing with the LBs and hope that we can have a healthy LB corp next year. One silver lining of the LBs getting hurt this year was them being forced to look at bringing in FA (McClain) and working a Rook (Hitchens) and getting them valuable exp in the system and it has paid off. At worst, if we keep the group, we will have good depth and rotation at LB. However that should not prevent us from taking a good LB if there is one sitting there for us in the first few rounds.

I just hope we can get these guys back and continue to build on what we have going. Would love to see what this defense could do with some good players on the line and a decent pass rush.

The two special teams blunders we have had lately is disconcerting and we as fans always complain about the Special teams but I have to wonder if we are better off sticking with who we have and just working out the kinks. Seems like we are always going through ST Coaches...just something to think about.

Let's not make this a bash of Garrett, instead let's celebrate a great staff! Everyone needs others to coach a team and they finally have the right mix of coaches. Kudos!

I don't really believe that. I think we finally have a dominant front on offense that gives this team a shot to beat anyone.

Good point. It took long enough to assemble. We should just appreciate it a little bit.

They all deserve praise.

Jerry deserves praise for letting Jason have his OC (Linehan). He also gets credit for taking a side step with player personnel by promoting McClay.

Garrett deserves praise for leading this team and getting Jerry aligned with the rebuilding job that needed to be done for this team to be successful. He also deserves credit for putting this staff together including keeping Callahan for another year and managing to convince Marinelli to stay when Kiffin was promoted.

The coordinators deserve praise for getting the most out of the talent that they have been provided with.

The players deserve credit for playing hard and smart football.

Great summary

Let me guess; you still mistakenly think Garrett iced his own kicker, right?

Nope and I have never said that.

Why is it that the Red Kool Aid Fan Club Members always bring that ONE incident up in some vain attempt to dismiss all of his other in game blunders over the past few years?

I would agree generally. There is a very small minority of "homers" who have tended to be in denial about the in game stuff the past few years and are the most vocal of the Red supporters so that tends to taint the rest of the Red homers. Ive liked Red and recognized a lot of the good he has done. Last year I had finally had enough of the in game stuff, and because IMO a lifelong football guy shouldnt be making some of those blunders, decided I wasnt buying in as much as previously w/o seeing good reason to do so. That perspective is considered blasphemy by the "All In No Matter What" crowd and they see it as bashing the coach they have venerated. When in reality, its just being honest about whats happened on Sundays.

This year has been fun and could get even more fun. And Garrett deserves credit for that. But he still has to prove he can sustain it. And he's on a good track to that IMO.

It has been fun this year, for sure.

And for the record, I've never denied the in-game mistakes. I think a lot of them were overblown, but JG definitely had his share of those and has definitely benefitted from experience and from getting in experienced coordinators in that regard. Personally, I've always been more focussed in the overall direction the organization has been taking, and that's what's really nice to see finally paying off.

With that said. Who ever was responsible for the way it ended working out deserves props. As well as the staff as a whole.
Find a way to keep this staff and keep the direction we are headed.

In a league where penalties are way up, it seems like we have got a firm grasp on it, especially the unforced ones.

Think about that for a second, penalties have drastically improved imo and they were a MAJOR talking (*****ing in my case) point for years around here

ok, I can't back that up with stats so its admittedly my perception, I'm sure some sharp stats guy will put me in my place in short order if I'm looking at a mirage

Its SO important imo because belief in a system & its coaches is integral to long term success. The pressure of the win now NFL requires immediate results to keep a system and coaches in place regardless of the fact that those same coaches and systems should have remained without the immediately desired results (Look at Cleveland's coaching staff of the 90's for example).

Success breeds success and attracts players willing to get on board with the program having seen how well it can work. I believe the Pats benefit from this concept greatly and in many ways, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

I expect this years success to have long lasting positive effects going forward both in how the team is run and how they continue to build a team.

I'd also like to say a lot starts with the relationships between the players and their position coaches as much as the other direction.

True but then the only people that matter are the players and how they respond and play for Garrett.

Very true. The more time I've spent on fan forums (which I enjoy very much) the less I care about the perspectives expressed there. Its good for a little fun and debate, but thats about it.
