See that is where you are wrong. I was not arguing the fact he is a good coach. I was saying it's hard to hold the Oakland job against him. But hey if you want to put words in my mouth go ahead if it makes you feel better.

ok then, we agree that Norv Turner is a sorry HC

I won't be happy if they hire Norv, but I sure as hell am not going to root against Dallas next year. I'm still on the Cowboys bandwagon, but not the Norv wagon.

Hmm...seems to me I am still a Dallas Cowboy fan and want the team to win...not just be right or wrong about a player or coach.

Let's put the metaphors aside for a second -

What part of "He did nothing to improve them" is coming off my keyboard wrong, so that you think I'm saying that Norv can't coach talent?

He had two years to improve the team. He did nothing. He made them worse.

He had 7 years to improve the Commanders. He did nothing. He was able to manage to not give Trent Green a chance, though.

Your right they were no better but a lot had to do with not having talent on that team. Your not going to do well if you lack talent I don't care who you are as a coach. Turner is not my 1st choice but to blow him off as some no good coach is wrong, the guy has shown with talent he can do a good job and those like Aikman know this very well.

The question is how good is Bowles at coaching the 4-3, because I think the talent on this team would be best served in that particular scheme.

I think Jones plans on keeping the 3-4 around which is why Wade Phillips was interviewed.

He improved no teams as a head coach. Not with talent, not with records. Yes, he coached one of the greatest team's of all time, and had nice offenses. He's a great coordinator. That doesn't make me believe this head coaching gig will be any different, talent or otherwise. There was no talent in Oakland when Norv got there, and he did nothing to fix that.

How much control did he have at getting talent in Oakland? I can say not much and all one has to do is look at players they drafted before and after Turner got there. If I had a pick for HC right now it would be Phillips but I'm not opposed to Turner.

About as much as he will have here.

I don't think that is a given. Ireland seems to have a big role and Jones did give Parcells a bigger role than other HC. Time will tell if Jerry learned his lesson but I think he has

Hiring Norv speaks volumes in that regard IMO. Norv is absolutely a guy who will not push back hard on Jerry when it comes to personnel like Bill could and did.

Granted, Jerry will hopefully have better scouting reports than he did pre-Ireland. But he is still a guy who falls in love with players come draft time and will overpay for them, or be blinded to their weaknesses.

I don't think so. It is up to Jones to either listen to advice from his HC or not it is not a matter of pushing Jones or not Jones owns the team and could have blew off even Parcells if he was not intent on changing how things are done on this team. Jones a while back admitted his mistakes and I for one think he has learned from these mistakes and will give the HC more power than he did with Campo and Gailey
