Barber will be our starting RB come opening night against New York. Julius Jones will be too busy blaming his past failures on BP to beat him out for the job.

Kind of how Franchione coaches the Aggies, too busy making excuses for having inherited recruits and players from R.C Slocum to bother taking responsibility for the present.

LOL......ouch!

Don't you know the Horns are the only team in Texas anyways.

I wouldn't dismiss that happening. Jones has been injury-prone in his short career. He's one training camp or preseason injury away from riding the bench. IMO, that's the only way he'll surrender his starting slot to Barber.

Or via a trade. :eek::

Much bigger than Barber as well but Barber has this swift and shifty fight to him I haven't seen in many backs.

That being said I still want Julius Jones to return to form and start.

Marion Barber is 6'0", 225

Jamal Lewis is 5'11", 240

He's bigger, but not "much" bigger, and Barber has proven he's much stronger than the average back

That coupled with the fact that he is not, in fact, faster than Barber, and this whole post pretty much went up in flames

I actually see Julius Jones having an outstanding season then leaving the Cowboys, making the organization regret not giving him more carries all along...

I've heard this one before....

15 pounds in a running back isnt a big difference?

Or, you know, the fact that he's the better runner of the two

Jones has talent, and he is faster and more athletic than Barber, but he very rarely hits the hole with any sense of purpose and often seems to actively run TOO the pile of defenders.

Barber is a better runner than jone, and will prove it, again, this season.

Jamal Lewis didnt have breakaway speed either, that didnt stop him from setting the NFL record for yards in a game and alost breaking the single season rushing record.

he didn't break the single season rushing record

Like I said, it's a difference to be sure, but not this mind boggling difference he made it out to be. Barber is big and strong enough to plow through defenders larger than him, as we've witnessed this on a regular basis.

The point of the original post was, the arguement that Barber doesnt have game breaking speed is stupid. Plenty of backs lacked the ability to go 80 yards anytime they touched the ball and were still successful.

Barber ran a faster 40 coming out of college than Emmitt Smith did. Smith didnt look fast at all, yet once he got into the open field, he found a way to go a long way more often than not.

this means nothing. 40 yard time is a joke. go look at game speed and you will see how fast lewis was

Um....thanks for reinforcing my point?

Barber can straight up play. His stats after 15 carries arent good but its a miniscule sample size. There is no question in my mind that Jones overall carries need to go down and Barbers needs to go up of we keep the two. I dont really care who starts its just window dressing.

Since video evidence seems to always prove as the end-all on this board, let's have a look:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=GIxlVtf8X2M

Julius Jones simply cannot do that

http://youtube.com/watch?v=qFUc-ga77O8&mode=related&search=

The runs at the the 0:31 mark, the 1:09 mark, the 1:15 mark, and the 1:30 mark showcase the power and aggresiveness that Julius Jones simply does not bring to the table

The runs at the 0:16 mark, the 0:48 mark, and 1:23 mark show the vision, cutting ability and elusiveness that Barber brings every week whereas we rarely see such abilities from Julius

Then the rest of the movie consists of mostly the one JJ run against New Orleans last year and the Seattle game 2 years ago.

Just have to laugh at those with an agenda. I started this thread to get comments about our starters, and certain people just have to grind their axes.
By the way Fuzzy- all of JJs best games came with 20+ carries a game.
And he certainly finished well in Seatle in the PLAYOFF game.
You can find clips that made Hambone look really good too.

So me having the opinion that Barber is a better back than Jones is an "agenda"?
