Please do not discount Bowen. I have a feeling he will do nice things for us as a situational backup DE....

Polite is not a good blocker- adequate. To have a punishing run game, a good lead blocker is a primary lead. Hoyte has shown the ability to level people, but has not shown an ability to catch the ball well enough to be a safety valve/dump off option.

This thread is about the starters and possible players that may split time. Not about backups.
I challenge anyone to find a reason to dispute how effective the combination of Jones/Barber is.

A combination of Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes was also effective, that doesnt change the fact that Addai is far and away the better runner

Just have to laugh at those with an agenda. I started this thread to get comments about our starters, and certain people just have to grind their axes.
By the way Fuzzy- all of JJs best games came with 20+ carries a game.
And he certainly finished well in Seatle in the PLAYOFF game.
You can find clips that made Hambone look really good too.

Do we have to go over this again? if he racks up 100 yards on his first 15 carries and then gets only 3 yards a carry on his next ten after that to total 130 yards that does not mean that you should give him those last ten carries.

Hes very explosive there is no question of that but he also not very durable.
He got hot early and they continued to feed him the ball. That doesnt mean they should have continued feeding him the ball.

Well there is game 8 and on of Jones performance. Jones was awful after week 7 until he showed up for the playoffs.

Jones carries need to go down because we need him to perform consistently and not just get hot and flame out in a blaze of garbage. If that means those carries go to Barber then so be it.

That's because they haven't thrown to him all but once, and I think he caught that one.

I would give Hoyte at least ONE training camp to learn how to catch. I don't think he switched until after camp last year. I think that is a skill he could pick up in the off season with plenty of repetitions.

Have a nice day

LOL. Lewis was coming off a knee injury. He's a lot faster than that.

And if you go with bogus Pro Day inflated 40 time comparisons, and the 40 time inflation (or delation) that's happened over the years, you must also conclude that Patrick Willis (4.38) is just as fast as Terence Newman (4.38).

Now you have a nice day.

The difference: Newman has been clocked at sub 4.3, Willis has not

And if Lewis was still injured so that it affected his running, he wouldnt have run. That's a business 101 decision.

You mean like how Boldin wouldn't have run, either?

Believe it or not, just a few years ago all these tests and the combine weren't so "business oriented".

\Aaron ROSS is the consensus pick here because of his ability to play the CB position and to return punts.

No he isn't. Not even close.

The only reason Ross is getting any support here is because he went to Texas

I like Ross because I think he would make the most impact the quickest. Aaron Glenn is on the downfall of his career, Anthony Henry hasn't had a full, healthy season in Dallas and we don't want to see Newman return punts anymore after that hit he took against Indy...i would be happy with Ross or Revis

Nice list and I may be alone but I get a bit nervous seeing the same front 7 that couldnt get any pressure on the QB last year penciled in as starters for this coming season.

Good post. Our team on paper is very very good. I just don't think BP was using guys to their strengths - especially defensively. We have all the tools to be the power house of the NFC. No reason not to be excited about the 07 season, probably the best team we've had in Dallas since 96.

Barber is a better runner than jone, and will prove it, again, this season.

Jamal Lewis didnt have breakaway speed either, that didnt stop him from setting the NFL record for yards in a game and alost breaking the single season rushing record.

Lewis did that against a horrible Cleveland defense that everyone was running on. How soon we forget that JuJo ran for 190+ yards against a good Carolina run defense.

There's a lot to be said about playing for a coach who constantly has you under their thumb. Previous BP players have said that's how he is. There is a way he wants you to do something, but it might not necessarily be the right way. Don't just assume that by starting MBIII over JuJo that the running game is going to be better. MBIII is better suited for a 2-back offense. He wasn't the primary runner at Minnesota – he had Maroney.

Here's a little trivia for ya. MBIII's only 100-yard game was in 2005 while JuJo was still recovering from a high ankle sprain. It was against Arizona and he had 127 yards.

Don't get me wrong, I think MBIII is a great short yardage and goal line back, but not an every down back or feature back. Just my opinion.

We are banking a lot on Wade being able to shake things up with our front seven. No arguement that that could fail; but we have to try. Clearly if this does not work, then next year we are going to be looking hard at DL replacements and at least one maybe two LBs.

I actually see Julius Jones having an outstanding season then leaving the Cowboys, making the organization regret not giving him more carries all along...

I, for one, agree. I think he will get the opportunity to get some 2nd half carries against a tired defense and will thrive. Thats where he was at his best rookie year and showed it again against seattle. Hes just more explosive than Barber, and should still be the starter IMO.

The change of HC and philosophy will make tons of difference. The stupid scheme BP and Zimmer ran was the worst.
