Our terrible drafts have put us here

We keep hyping up a lot of the players selected over the last 3-4 years, but how well have we really done?

Not going to comment on this year's draft. Still early.

2012:

Claiborne - We traded up to #6 for this guy? Can't stay healthy, can't play.
Crawford - Who knows?
The rest of the draft was terrible. Matt Johnson FTW

2011:

Smith - I really liked this pick, but the kid hasn't played up to his draft status. Not a lockdown LT. Just OK
Carter- Can't stay healthy and has regressed a ton this year. Looks like his work ethic is gone.
Murray - Can't stay healthy.
Harris - Good contributor.

2010:

Bryant - Can't put a complete game together. People saying he is # 2 behind Calvin are smoking something. He still has a lot of work.
Lee - Can't finish a season.
The rest of the draft was terrible.

2009: LOL

This is one huge reason why we suck. We have been hyping these guys up, but most of them are a dime a dozen in the NFL.

The zone will go nuts when Jerry goes all in on JFB in the draft. You know its coming right?

I guess i'm in the minority but I tend to think our drafts from 2010 to 2013 have been very solid.....

I guess I have to call your bluff. If those drafts are terrible what team has done better in the same span? The Ravens? The Packers? The Giants?

We have more than enough talent to be better than .500. Bad coaching put us here.

No we dont, but i agree eithbthe bad coaching part. I didnt see Monte on the field giving up 40 first downs.

What's been solid about it. Really, feel free to voice your opinion. I don't follow other teams, so I don't care about their drafts.

The defense is severely lacking on talent, but we certainly have enough talent on the offensive side of the ball to put up more than 17 points.

People keep saying we have all this talent on offense yet they can't score more than 17 points... The offensive line is pathetic!

It's not just the drafts. It's the person behind those drafts. Jerry Jones.

Well if you'd follow other teams you'd realize that you don't hit on every draft pick and sometimes hit on only 1 or 2 picks a draft. If you want to talk about the 2008 to 2009 drafts? We can talk about that but 2010 through the 2013 draft has been very solid. Some teams can't even draft well in the 1st round.

Again, why are you saying 2010 - 2013 has been solid?

If we had drafted better, maybe we'd actually have some decent young prospects on the DL who could jump in when injuries occurred instead of having to resort to using journeyman scrubs. Could never figure out why people were saying Marinelli was doing such a great job and that street FA's like Hayden and Selvie were so good they made Ratliff and Spencer expendable when we had one of the worst run D's in the NFL even prior to this game. These guys were exposed for being the mediocre players they are. It's about more than sacks. Last time I checked, defending the run was a DL responsibility too. Coming into the game NO was only averaging 80 rushing yards/game, yet we allowed them 242. After this game we've given up the 5th most rushing yards/game to go along with the most passing yards. Worst D I've ever seen and probably the worst D in the history of the franchise and one of the absolute worst in the history of the league.

Garrett has put us here, we have more talent than many over .500 teams but we are what we are, a mediocre team and it starts with the GM and the coach. I honestly don't think our drafts have been that bad, I do blame Jerry for hiring and sticking with Garrett.

Lets go ahead and talk about the 2013 draft too. Frederick and Terrance Williams have been great. The rest is bad so far. We all know it takes a few years to evaluate a draft, but we are getting no help from the rest of the draft class. You cant hit on all rookies, but they are suppose to at least provide quality depth when you have injuries.

Escobar cant even get on the field, and he was drafted over Eddie Lacy. Not that Lacy would have helped with this game. B.W Webb gets burned every play. Randle is basically a 4th string running back. Wilcox and Holloman are injured.

2012 draft is looking pitiful. I was so happy when we traded up for Mo Claiborne, so I cant knock them on that pick. I thought he was the best defensive player in the draft. His ball skills in college were insane. He has shown none of that so far, when he is actually on the field. He lsot all confidence before he got injured. Crawford injured. Kyle Wilbur had one good game his whole career. Lets not talk about Matt Johnson. Danny Coale and Caleb McSurdy are not even with the team. Ok so we get about 2 Tight End screens a game from James Hanna, and thats all we get from the 2012 class. Good job Jerry.

Do we leave much to be desired on draft day? Without question.

Does this coaching staff possess much in the way of competence when it comes to strategy and mitigating the effects of some rather weak areas of the roster? Nope, not so much.

And that's not to say this staff is without quality coaching. Rod Marinelli is obviously one of the exceptions.
