Aside from Brandon Smith's contested catches late in games ... i really didn't get to see much of a vertical game this preseason ...

- Opposing preseason teams got the deep go bomb on us .. per Wright and Bland, but did we get to see that artwork on our part ?

-and we haven't seen Simi Fehoko used or go deep - so it's unknown if he'll be that kind of vertical threat until Dak is in the game ...

- Turrpin ? ..
.Kellen would have to scheme him bunch formations and rub routes to spring him a free release
and head of steam momentum downfield and he's not gonna be a lengthy target

- i still think Gallup would normally be our best deep threat, but hes' still recovering from an ACL injury and who knows if it may take a full season to get anywhere near his full previous pre-ACL form..

You said it, it's preseason. I think what we've seen in practice will be closer to what we'll see in games. In practice there were multiple deep routes with Lamb, Fehoko, Turpin and even Brown. The issue now is providing Dak enough time in the pocket to complete those routes.

Like it or not until Gallup comes back, and assuming he is full speed, it's going to be Turpin. It should be Fehoko, but I don't think Fehoko has shown he can get behind NFL DBs.

I did not see much downfield passing in the preseason but with Rush and Grier, I am not sure that is something we should expect of them. I think we will see Dak going deep more with CeeDee and Gallup, possibly some creative stuff with Turpin.

Speaking of Turpin, I don't know that they have to get him behind the defense, just get him in space and let him make people miss.

Not sure we have a proven receiver and as I talked about during the off-season, we are not a team that throws bombs a ton. And Dak doesn't have the best touch for bombs either. People keep talking about those 20+ yards stats but I'm talking 40-50+ quick strike bombs that can shift a game in a hurry. Maybe we won't need it if we can methodically move the ball down the field but it's a great weapon to have if you can swing it.

If we don't replace LT in a quality way, dak won't have time for any deep throws.

From what I've seen, getting Turpin downfield after the catch would be more beneficial. With his small stature, any contested throws (and sorry, but our receivers often have to stop and turn around for the ball, especially on longer throws) would be advantage: defense.

Yes, that was my thought as well. That pass attempt to Turpin in the Seattle preseason game was a good example of what you'd want to do with him. That would have been a 30-40 yard gain. Not a classic bomb but lethal all the same.

We won't have that much time to be able to throw a deep ball from what I'm seeing on this OL. At least we can dream.

I wouldn’t worry, the team looks sharp. I also hope for Fehoko. I think they still air it out to unknowns this year, run the ball, and play defense

None unless Turpin is considered for his straight line speed.
I think opponent defenses would take their chances with Fehoko or Tolbert attempting to beat them over the top.

Will be interesting to see Tolbert and Fehoko against starting opponent CB2s.

I'm not the biggest believer in Noah as a pass catcher against real competition as well.
They'll stack the box, bracket cover CeeDee and force Dak to beat 'em with unproven guys.

Under thrown passes on go routes are always advantage offense. Those passes end up being caught or flagged for defensive pass interference quite often.

You mention Smith first and for good reason, will be interesting finding a way to keep him but he has some fight and I like seeing that, just not sure he can make the cut.

plot twist…it’s Washington. That’s been his calling card since college. Not a burner but DBs seem to forget about him.

I don’t think you can really take away anything schematically from the preseason. Not only have we not had starters play but teams show the vanilla stuff in the PS.

yet the likes of Denver and Seattle went " vanilla " and deep bomb the hell outta Nahshon Wright and Bland ...and with their backup QBs ...

thankful Nooch showed that with Brandon Smith late in 4th ...

When in the last decade have we had a QB who can and is willing to throw the ball moe than 20 yards....no point having a deep threat

If you have DBs who don't turn their heads playing man coverage. A good CB or against zone, not so much, especially when the WR is Lilliputian.

Brandon is up against the numbers game ... but he's outplayed Tolbert and Vashar who BTW, did nuthin in preseason .
.and i heard nuthin from him in the bulk of training camp ,...

i think like Dennis Houston , he's headed for the practice squad. ..
