Outside of OL, which player that we must hand in the card for?

I was listening to Locked in Cowboys podcast yesterday and they were discussing if a player would drop, which non-lineman would the Cowboys have to hand the card in for:

-They discussed Bryon Murphy II, what are some others?

Egde-Latu, Verse, Turner
Corner-Arnold, Mitchell

They would all represent best players available and should be high up on their board.

BTJ at WR. Newton at DT. Newton is an absolute beast. Flying under the radar. He and Murphy are game changers. Osa is a nice player but these guys are on a different level. You get a chance to get guys like this at 24 you jump.

Yes, you could also add Newton to the list, it's him or Murphy who are the best in the class. Didn't add Thomas cause, many believe he could be available in our range.

IMO I think this year looks like the year they wanted Surtain or Horn and settled for Micah. I think Barton and JPJ are their targets. If both are gone who do they pivot to ?

Not including any Oline, I would say the first thing I would want is any Dline but mostly DT, 3tech NT whatever we can get. If not DT then a pass rush specialist DE. Linebacker should be up in prio I think DT is more important.

Now would the Cowboys FO think this too? No. They think they are set at DT and DE has less depth but they are willing to go WR or RB over those positions.

What about DeJean Iowa. I am hearing he can play multiple secondary positions. Robinson from Missouri is good as well.

I think with Newton and Murphy being the only two first-round DTs that they will come off the board earlier than some expect. Other teams understand the need for players like them.

Even if they do make it to our pick, I don't expect the Joneses to take either after taking a DT in the first last year. I believe their argument will be that they not only spent a first-rounder on DT but Osa had a very solid season, which is true although not the type of season you need from your 3-tech, which is a dominant one.

Personally I don‘t expect Murphy or Newton to be there. They are just too good and every team wants players like that. Guys that are upper level 3T guys are extremely valuable. Look at some of the recent contracts. Osa is a nice player but not on the level of guys like Murphy or Newton.

This is what I have been discussing this week, possibly trading back. Agree, Barton/JPJ appear to be the targets. Could they just take another player or look to trade back. We know Murphy was a 30 day prospect so he is probably on their radar. The BYU tackle is supposedly rising where some in the media are projecting him to the Cowboys as well. Players like Morgan/Frazier have been connected to the Cowboys as well

I think you have to take either if they are there. Dallas hasnt had a chance at a potentially dominant 3T in the 1st in a long time

Really like Murphy cause he can play either DT position and is considered an excellent run defender as well

The Washington OT or the Oregon St OT. I have seen mocks where they fall in the 20s. Both are considered top 15 prospects.

We have needs just about everywhere. You can make a case to just take the best player each round and they’ll likely see a good amount of snaps.

OT
C
WR
RB
DT
DE
LBr
CB
S

I think it’s wild that some fans think we have to draft 2 OLmen early with the amount of holes we have.

I really like Latu, think he is the best edge in the class, reminds me of Phillips a few years back
Love the player. But I don’t know if I could pull the trigger on him. His potential red flags are career threatening. I would just hold my breath and hope from a health standpoint If he’s the pick.

Laiatu Latu might lose the numbers game in a loaded draft class and fall down the board. He's a big injury risk, but his production and efficiency stats are that of a top-five pick. Pass rushing talents like that never make it to #24, but this may be the year that one does.

Byron Murphy is the real deal and will probably go early. I have cooled down a bit on Johnny Newton... heck of a player, but he's a more middle of the road athlete. I would be fine with picking him at #24, but he's not a BPA, trip all over yourself to hand in the card guy.
