Overshown's future?

I see a lot of people putting the cart before the horse. Season has not even started, maybe wait and see how he fairs both play and health wise. When healthy he is a big-time player and a difference maker. For me I will wait and see how this season plays out

How do you guys feel about Overshown? The signing of his new agent sure puts a piss rain over the possibility of us extending him. I think many would have liked to extend him on a Sean Lee type of pay for play type of scenario, but I’m sure that’s not going to happen now.

Hate to lose him, to see him ball out healthy for another team on his next contract. I would hate it even more if we extend him for real money and see him never contribute as he has done on his rookie deal.

My guess is the Cowboys will let him test free agency.
Likely what he and Mulugheta are hoping for as well. Smart choice of an agent.

When a guy has missed the bulk of his first 3 seasons, the last thing anyone should be worrying about is free agency and long-term contracts.

Yes, let's not worry about the big payday of a 2nd contract.

Dude needs to set himself up for success. That second contact is often what gets a player and his family set for life.

He needs to worry about his money and his family over anything else.

What is wrong with you?

Didn't want ro extend him to being with. Always hurt and not nearly as good as fans make him out to be when healthy

Meh, he can go or stay, I never saw him as a big contributor anyway, he plays reckless, no control
Exactly. He made some splash plays blitzing that made him look good, but he has terrible instincts. If he misses a few games, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesnt get his job back from Barham

Yeah, I don't like it at all that he signed on with DM. Almost feels like there's no chance to keep him now, or even that he may want out of Dallas. Could very well be reading too much into it but that's just the feeling I have.

He hasn’t performed anywhere near Sean Lee. Sean was the heart of the team for years.

A 17 game injury free season would determine a lot I think.

It would then be up to Dallas or any other team to determine how much contract money risk they are willing to take on longterm durability.

Overshown may be my favorite player on the team. I’m really interested in seeing how he looks now further removed from the injury in 2024. That said, if he looks hindered in any way physically, it’s not likely that it will improve with more time.

I thought his return last year was borderline miraculous given the catastrophic damage to his knee. I don’t know why folks are so move on from him. When he is healthy, he’s an impact player.

Let’s not act like he’s missing games due to soft tissue injuries. A dude fell on his leg and mechanically tore his knee; there’s nothing that could have changed the outcome.

The only thing he has to prove is that he can stay healthy.. I think the Cowboys have control over him from that perspective.

The same way i felt before

I would consider his position open and if we didnt land Caleb downs and a LB was available i wouldve taken him

Im not high on Overshown and dont understand why people here consider him a building block

I think Overshown has the right head on his shoulders, but it’s clear he is thinking about the bag at this point. Fine sir, but get out there and earn it.

No doubt he can play, but even if he stays on the field for all 17…..something may need to be worked out. His injury history is a bit much and if they are going to play hardball with Parsons and Pickens….I dunno ‘zero.’ You may just have to deal.

Love the guy, but he isn’t even remotely irreplaceable.

why if I may ask is he your favorite player on the team? are you related? did you grow up with him? did you go to UT and he's a class mate? I'm asking because he's really done nothing on the field.

Doesnt matter who your agent is if you cant stay on the field.

Just flat out has to stay healthy and not prove he is a durability risk .

If i'm not mistaken, thsi si his last year on his rookie contract, or there's an option Cowboys will/will not choose to keep or let him walk ...

Healthy, Overshown is an instinctive, heat seeking missile, in blitzing, sacking the QB, making forced tackles for loss in backfield, rangy sideline to sideline, and he seems to be able to force turnovers.

Of course his game is still refining and developing, as he's missed so much time at NFL level.

Imo, this has to be prove heathy, productive year, .. else we cannot afford to wait for him, and have to seek his replacement. .
Can’t control when ACL/MCL happens
