the guy is terrible- think dwayne goodrich- without the manslaughter conviction of course.

No doubt.

Last night it was like watching my neighbors throw the ball around when it's the 8 year old boy trying to cover his older brother thats an all state WR.

Carroll was referred to (by PFT, I think), as the "Human Holding Penalty".

There has to be more to this release than just his play like a blow up with the coaching staff or off-field issue we haven't heard about.

If he doesn't have the talent to play in the NFL, what the heck was he doing out on the field when there were healthy alternatives sitting on the bench?

Did their HC wake up this morning and suddenly realize that he's terrible? If that's the case, he's the one who should be standing in the unemployment line.

I know this guy stinks, but I think it's crappy if they released him like some kind of scapegoat like he's the only one on that team that deserves it, that whole team is horrible. I hope they're not under the impression that they might have won that game had they only not started Carroll, and thats what it seems like since they cut him right after the game and they could have just benched him, no way they just realized how bad he is, sounds like excuses, even if he's bad he has to be better than their 3rd or 4th string CB.

Carrol wouldn't have played but Charles Woodson was dinged up and he was Woodson's backup.

KC Joyner had this to say about Carrol in Scientific Football 2006:

Carrol had the highest percentage of deep passes thrown against him of any cornerback and tied for second in the number of deep passes allowed. Carrol also allowed nearly 2/3 of those passes to be successful, which is probably why teams kept throwing at him vertically.

Intersting. I guess everyone is accountable for their own performance in Green Bay except for Brett Favre.

No Doubt!! Why dont the Packers trade this guy?? and get something in return while they can, i mean whats the point of trotting him out there every sunday, all he is doing is futher delaying the future of the Packers, its like when we had Vinny Testaverde.

But also according to Joyner's numbers, Carroll ranked 17th out of the 58 primary starting cornerbacks in success percentage, 23rd in yards allowed per opponent's pass and 12th in target percentage. So he didn't get picked on very much and didn't get beaten often, he just got beaten for some big plays occasionally (seven "deep" completions, according to Joyner). But Joyner also said he allowed only three TD passes.

Whole Hog Sports in Arkansas is reporting that there is more to the whole Ahmad Carroll story than meets the eye. The website reports, "An owner of a Fayetteville piano bar says former Arkansas Razorbacks receiver Dedrick Poole punched a doorman after he and Green Bay Packers cornerback Ahmad “Batman” Carroll barged inside, demanding star treatment."

This has been his M.O. since he got in the league. Big time ego, small time player.

All this is good and true, but the fact is that he will be picked up by someone....and most likely this week.

So, where do you think he ends up?

He was playing nickel this season though. Even sadder.

He didnt get picked on because that team was losing probably most games going into the half. And facing GB last season and those LBs its just as easy to throw underneath to TEs and RBs to get the 4 or 5 yards teams needed on 3rd downs.

BTW - He has poor technique, and spends too much time talking instead of taking care of business.

No, I mean that when the opponents did throw the ball last season, a low percentage of them were thrown at Carroll's man -- about 16.5 percent, using Joyner's numbers. (For comparison, Shawn Springs was thrown at about 18.7 percent of the time when he was on the field. And DeAngelo Hall was thrown at about 23.2 percent of the time, one of the highest rates in the league.) And a low percentage of those passes thrown at Carroll were successful.

Understandable. I havent checked any stats yet (because, I am lazy when inebriated), but, I would suspect that because of a suspect LB corps and because the Packers D didnt get into as many 3rd down situations last year as other teams, and that the Packers possibly were behind most of the time, that he may not have been thrown at as often (which I agree with) but, that doesnt mean he played any better.

He simply hasnt improved since he first stepped foot on the field. That is a problem, and I wont blame it on him entirely as a player, I blame it on the piss poor management that he has been under for the last few years. There are several other teams he could have played for that would have furthered his development (including Dallas, New England, Pittsburgh, Washington, Philadelphia, etc.).

The story on him since his Razorback days has been that he is too full of himself. It's one thing to be dang good and be that way, and I am sure corners have to have kicker and closer's mentalities, forgeting things easily, but he has never been THAT kind of player. If someone would sign him, then kick his tail in a room for a while, and he would allow himself to be coached and get better, he could be good. If not, then good riddance! Someone else deserves his spot in the league.
