Seems like they switched to single high safety with man to man on the outsides half way through the year to stop the run. The corners play their side and don't follow. Shields appears to be the weaker of the 2 corners in both tackling and big plays allowed. The other side of that is Capers bringing a lot of 5 man pressure to force a faster throw.
I expect the following from GB defensively:
- 4-2-5 with Matthews in the middle -- it essentially their base defense <when> they have Matthews playing in the middle
- Sam Shields on Dez with safety help from Ha Ha Clinton Dix
- Tramon Williams singled up on Terrance Williams
- Micah Hyde and/or (in the dime) Casey Hayward dealing with Witten and Cole Beasley
Packers play a ton of nickel typically using Morgan Burnett (leading defensive back in terms of tackles in the NFL) to provide help against the run.
The key will be the Cowboys successfully running on that defense and forcing the Packers out of the nickel. Since they've moved Matthews to part time MLB in week 9 they've dropped from 153.5 yards per game and 4.8 yards per carry (first eight games) to allowing 86.4 and 3.6 ypc in the final 8 games.
Of course, you could say the same thing about the Cowboys on defense. Cowboys would prefer to run nickel all day against GB, however, to pull that off they need to control Lacy with a 6 person front.
In both cases, it's an interesting challenge.
