Pacman a Cowboy! ***Mega Merge***

Given the high upside to the trade, this is acceptable. The Titans didn't want Pacman but knew we really wanted him. They didn't have much to lose by not doing anything while he is still suspended so there was no rush on their part. On our part, we probably wanted the deal done before the draft because it will determine how much we were willing to reach for a CB versus BPA in the first round.

I still think we need another CB as I'm not confident about Henry's health this year or our ability to re-sign TNew to a deal that works under the cap next year. We need to start preparing for that with this draft.

I just heard it again, they said nothing about a conditional. They said a 4th rounder, with clauses attached on playing time and reinstatement? How does that work?
The conditional is next year. If he gets in trouble, we get a pick next year. If he doesn't, we have to give them another pick next year.

Werder is saying right now that Goodell did know about this recent hush-money story, too. At least, Pac's agent claims that.

I see your point... but no decision has been made on Pacman yet. How is that giving the Boys flexibility?

Not to mention what another poster already stated that he hasn't played in a year. He is going to be rusty regardless.

A 4th was WAY too much to give especially with how deep this year's draft is.

Because I think there is no way Goodell can suspend him another year.

The only way he wont play is if he gets in trouble.

I dont think we will draft a corner in the 1st now.

Good deal (I guess) if he shapes up, gets reinstated and because the all-rpo he is capable of being

That's what I want to know?

What clause could be attached if the pick is for this year? And would the clause be towards giving more compensation to the Titans... or for the Titans to return a high draft pick (5th, 6th, or 7th) if Pacman isn't reinstated and doesn't play that much?

We'll still look at DBs early, but it does maybe keep us from reaching.

Sources: Cowboys agree on deal to acquire Pacman from Titans
ESPN.com news services

Updated: April 23, 2008, 6:27 PM ET

The Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans have agreed in principle on a trade for suspended cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Dallas will send its fourth-round pick in Saturday's draft to the Titans for Jones.

There are also conditions attached to the trade related to Jones being reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and how much he plays for the Cowboys. If he plays a significant amount of time in 2008, the Titans will get an additional pick from the Cowboys in 2009.

If he doesn't get reinstated by the NFL, the Titans will send an undisclosed 2009 draft pick back to the Cowboys.

Also, Pacman has reached a financial settlement with the Titans regarding his contract situation. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Jones must pay $500,000 to a charity chosen by the Titans sometime in the next two years. He will receive a new contract from the Cowboys.

ESPN NFL reporters Ed Werder and Chris Mortensen contributed to this report.

I have 0 problems with this trade. Yes it is not risk free, but a 4th for a cb with this guys talent.....come on. Anyone complaining, just likes to complain. We have to be the early SB fav. If we got Boldin, 85 or Roy....good heavens.

If you know Jerry, you just KNEW Jerry had to get this done before the draft.

You can say what you want, but Jerry is expecting him to play this season and this will affect his need to take a CB in the first round.

I love Jerry as an owner. He may make mistakes, but by gosh he's always trying to get playmakers!!

I'll wait to pass judgement until we see how much he signs for. I have a wierd feeling this is gonna work out ok.....he knows this is his last shot.......although his brain is the size of a cashew.

He has stated publicly that he will play out his current contract as a measure of good faith to any team that acquires him...

I think his contract peaks out at 2.1 mil over the next two or three years...

Happy it’s done and over. Now package those two firsts for Roy and get a running back in the second.

I think we trade down now to try and recoup that 4th rounder we lost. I would love for a team like miami, atlanta or baltimore to try and get back in the first to try and grab a Qb. I don't see us reaching if the value isn't there.

I disagree.

Talentwise, a CB or RB are the two most valuable positions in this draft in the first. The rest... are just reaches imo.

If one of the big CB falls... Dallas will still jump on him and possible also look at Phillips.

Resigning Newman is still not a given with all the other players having to be re-upped next year Dallas needs as many quality CBs as they can get!
