Playmaker's about to fire some fastballs

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

The first hour of the Michael Irvin Show was spent discussing Pacman Jones' background. They'll go over his many off-field incidents in the next hour.

Pacman recalled telling his counselor that, "It ain't no sin to go to the strip club." Irvin pointed out that it was actually a sin, just not against the law. And it's definitely not a good idea for a guy who is about to meet with Sheriff Goodell about his suspension.

But Pacman found his way to a topless joint in New York the night before meeting with Goodell. What the heck was he thinking?

"It was a bad decision, period, point blank," Pacman said. "It was one of the dumbest decisions that I ever made."

Unfortunately, it really ranks pretty far down Pacman's list of dumb decisions. More on that to come in the next hour.

What I was really waiting for

Pacman Jones has said a whole bunch of things over the last few weeks. Finally, I think the magic words came out of his mouth ...

"I'd be really lucky to get another shot," he said.

That's a big one for him, I believe. It's Pacman saying that his talent alone does not give him the right to play in the league.

Another thing he addressed was his visit to a New York gentlemen's club on his trip to visit commissioner Roger Goodell last year.

"It was a bad decision," Jones said. "It was one of the dumbest decisions I've ever made. ... It's just not going to happen anymore."

As Timmy said, Pacman's playing his cards right here. Finally.

Pacman's saying all the right things

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips
Pacman Jones' childhood is a sad story. His dad was murdered two doors down when he was 8 years old. His mom has fought drug addiction for years. The grandmother who raised him died when he was a freshman in college.

Michael Irvin had Pacman tell that tale.

Pacman has either been coached well on what to say today or finally gets it. He hasn't made any excuses for his horrible behavior and says to point the finger at him for his problems. He talked about having to separate himself from family members and childhood friends who have been his wingmen.

"It's getting to the point where it ain't no time for slip-ups right now," Pacman said. "It's like I'm on the cliff right now. One slip-up and it's off the cliff."

Playmaker will do Oprah impersonation

Michael Irvin and his co-host set up Pacman's appearance in the show's first segement, which started with a highlight of a Pacman pick-six.

The highlight of the segment was the explanation of the difference between strip clubs and gentlemen's establishments. (Cheap vs. expensive and quality of entertainers.)

Irvin vows to spend some of the show delving into Pacman's background. He calls it getting to the root of the problem instead of focusing on the fruit of the problem.

I'm gonna go get an orange and come back after the commercial break.

Pacman's only talking to the Playmaker

Calvin "Lucky" Watkins has the ESPN 103.3 studios staked out, but he wasn't able to get a word in with Pacman Jones. Manny Arora, Pacman's agent/lawyer/babysitter, wouldn't let any reporters ask his client a question.

The media is counting on Michael Irvin to fire a few fastballs at Pacman.

Starting at 11 CT, we'll be live blogging Pacman Jones' appearance on the Michael Irvin Show on ESPN Radio 103.3 FM. For those of you that can listen in, here's the link to the station's live stream.

Should be interesting.

I honestly think this interview is hurting him even more.

You dont get in trouble that many times and are never guilty.

If he REALLY is innocent this many times then either way hes going to get in trouble because people are going to put stuff on him.

Why do police keep picking on Pacman?

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

Kevin Kiley, Michael Irvin's co-host, has rattled off the first four incidents on the long list of Pacman Jones' encounters with police since becoming a pro football player.

Pacman said three of the accusations were false. He fessed up to fighting with a police officer, but he claimed that the charge was "really, really bogus" because the cop picked the fight.

Irvin recalled one of the times that he was arrested and chatted up his cellmates. Every single one of them claimed they were innocent. Irvin admitted that he was guilty and seemed to doubt the honesty of the other men. He hinted that Pacman might have an issue with honesty, too.

"Do you not understand that it makes you look like you're hiding something when you say that?" Irvin asked.

He's admitting to many things and denying others. THe purpose of what they're doing right now is going through each incident and clarify his position. You can say it's bad for him to discuss every incident, but he's just doing what's asked of him.

I have listened to bits and pieces of this so far and I want him even less now.

He should not be allowed any closer to valley ranch than the espn studio in arlington.

He is just a poor innocent victim in every scenario.

As evidenced by him saying in every other story that he made stupid decisions. And regrets them.

Exactly... Several of them he's admitted to.

His main problem is that he has to get away from this element he loves to hang in. Some of these things, he probably didn't do. But when you get that rep for being a thug, all you have to do is be around when something goes wrong and you're going to be blamed.

So part of that is his fault, of course.

I just wonder if he can overcome two decades -- the vast majority of his life -- of knowing nothing but bad influences. It would be tough, but maybe he can.

He needs to start hanging with Romo and Newman and just go play golf all day in the offseason. :)

its like pulling teeth to get him to really acknowledge he is at fault.

Every thing he has said has had some sort of yea but.....

Hey I dont like the guy, and I would probably have an issue with him even if he was admitting he has blown every chance given to him and has let alot of people down.

So maybe I will just not be able to view him with an open mind.

I don't think the "maybe" was necessary, theebs. :p:
