Every year there are so many WR's and TE's that you just about can't shut down the 88 jersey. So, IMO, they did the smart thing and made it a "Legacy" number.If I remember correctly, Zeke wanted 22, but they said no. For Dallas, some numbers get passed down to create a legacy, others are not touched. 22 (as the all-time leading rusher) is the latter. Others are 74, 12 and probably 8. As far as the "Throw up the X" thing and the number 88, I'd guess the X became a thing after he had the number already.
