Panthers coach

He seems to have that club pointed in the right direction and Darnold to me looks much better then he ever did floundering in New Jersey but one play sticks out. When the Panther HC himself shoved that defensive player off the sidelines telling him get back out to the game and then Carolina is flagged for too many men on the field.

Why wouldn’t a position coach be the one to shove bodies out into the game not the HC and second if McCarthy had shoved someone back into action drawing a too many men on the field penalty the boards would have lit up from here to Racine Wisconsin. McCarthy seems more spectator then that , keeping time outs bizarre challenges etc
MM has done and is doing some good things
But he has room for improvement
You don't sit your best defensive player in the 3rd quarter.
It almost bit us in the butt.

I’ve never seen so much love for a coach that got blown out before the Cowboys stepped off the gas.

Does he have the team pointing in the right direction? Yes. But let’s not act like he’s some genius that out-coached our staff and still lost. Big Mike and his crew beat him yesterday.

Follow his career. He turned around Temple, he then took over the dumpster fire that was Baylor and got them righted and then took over a Panthers team that was in serious decline before he took over. The dude is a legit coach. Granted college is different than the pros but he seems to be following the same path - improving the team each year.

It's amazing how provincial Cowboys fans can be when someone outside this organization gets some praise. It's like if someone praises another player or coach, it's some sort of insult of the Cowboys. It's bizarre. Really bizarre.

Agree, the Boys stepped of the gas or it would have truly been a beautiful blowout. Are the Panthers going in the right direction? We’ll soon find out if that 3-0 start was the start of them being a juggernaut in the league. The schedule gets tougher for them and we will see if they’re for real.

I think they were protecting him from either a back or someone mentioned concussion protocol. To be honest guys like Cannady Joseph will only progress contribute in live action

First , CONGRATULATIONS on your win. Cowboys ran us out of the building in the 3rd qtr. The close score was due to "prevent defense " .

I like Rhule. We are in year two , ( 19 games into his Panther career ) of a rebuild. Currently ( I can change my mind if we lose 3 straight more lol ) I think he's got us pointing us in the right direction. You can visit our boards to see plenty of complaints , ( like here about MM after a win ) . Rhule's got a learning curve to learning the NFL game ( clock management etc )
The back end of our schedule is a lot tougher than the front end. So if we , by chance , make the playoffs , we'll be extremely happy and a year ahead of schedule .

It’s fine to praise and him and like what he’s doing. Like I said, I think he is doing the right things with his team and has them on the rise. But some people around here are slobbering all over him, and I just watched him get blown out of the stadium after failing to make second half adjustments — a criticism I gather is ongoing from Panthers fans.

Rhule, so far, is looking like one of the best recent HC hires.
People used to sneer at hiring college coaches directly into the HC role but they've been tearing it up lately. There was a whole lotta doubt around the Cardinals hiring the Texas Tech coach and that team is killing it. Of course having an awesome QB helps,,,

Seems like a good coach and someone I’d want to play for. I think they’re a good team - but they beat 2 very bad teams (Jets & Texans) and a mediocre Saints team. They hung with us for 3 quarters but we flooded them in the 3rd quarter. GG

There are different types of head coaches....Rhule is a recent college coach, they are much more hands on than most NFL coaches.
They have to be more hands on as that is expected of high school and college coaches. Some NFL coaches can administrate and that's part of their service to their coaching staff, delegating out of trust.

I had 16 assistant coaches on my varsity staff, every play and substitution still went through me. I was also the only one that addressed refs and called time outs.....maybe, too hands on my my job and my 16 assistant coaches jobs hinged on my calls.

It's still one of the toughest transitions in sports. Often times a team that is hiring a new HC is a crap organization with a losing culture leaving the new HC with way too much to deal with.

Rhule is good. He has turned around every program he was at in college and they always show big improvement in year 2. He spent some time in the NFL too so it wasn't like he was coming into the league completely blind like Urban Meyer. Urban looks completely lost out there

I actually like Matt Rhule. He is smart guy and class act as head coach. He was on our short list to replace Garrett, until Stephen stepped in with McCarthy (not that I have regrets).
He was my favorite to replace Red
I really like him

I like Rhule and was impressed by the Panthers defense overall. If I was a Panther fan I would be hopeful for the future if they can find the right quarterback. I'm doubtful Darnold is the guy long term.

same. they granted him an extraordinary amount of power and influence over the organization when they hired him, and he's showing why. i disagree on d'arnold though, i think he's a gamer. he was a very highly touted player coming out for a reason. think the jets just ruined him for a bit. with cmc and dj, if they improve the line and/or add another solid receiver or te that offense will be really formidable

Meyer is just like Kelly, Saban, Spurrier and Petrino were when they thought the dog wagged the tail.

Jimmy was successful because of the state of the NFL and the lack of FA at the time. The game in the NFL is no longer just football.

There is a line in "The Replacements" that Jack Warden delivered to Gene Hackman that summarizes where the NFL is today, "you went to war with an 8M QB, what did you think was going to happen"? Hackman answered "I was right". Right has little to do with it in the NFL.

No way that was happening, did you see the deal he got? 9M x 7, think Booger is giving that to a HC? Think Rhule is putting up with the Joneses?

Whether it is real or not, the perception that they meddle is there and even more so for coaches in the loop. There are some that would never consider coaching for them.

Hell, you watch TV or listen to sports radio in DFW, you'll wonder if the Cowboys even have a HC.

Those pauses you see McC making during games are "I wonder what Booger would want me to do" moments. And that doesn't matter because he will second guess him to the media if it doesn't work out.
