It is a topic for you how relevant is that? Fans are entitled to give up on the season if they wish and talk about could and would be coaches all they want. Cowboys through do not look like they are actively looking for a HC unlike teams who are out of the race.

Uh, I think you preaching to the wrong person. Did we misunderstand my post? lol

Cowher, Shannahan, Gruden, Holmgrin....please.

None of those guys could cut it in Dallas.

Cowher coached in Pittsburgh for a long, long time before accomplishing anything...1-2 years here without a SB and fans would be ready to fire him.

When was the last time Shannahan ever won anything? John Elway willed his Broncos to a win, and most folks think that team should have won long before they finally did...then they went in the toilet after Elway retired. What's he going to bring to the table with Dallas fans who want a SB right now?

Gruden...you must be joking.

Holmgrin?....some division titles in Seattle, one SB appearance, in how many years??? What's he done in the past decade? Surely we aren't going all the way back to Green Bay and turn ourselves into a West Coast offense to win a SB. Besides, he's going to the front office as gm...probably not even going to coach in Cleveland.

If we fire Wade Phillips, and hire another coach, I feel sorry for that guy because if we miss the playoffs in the transitional year and then fail to win a playoff game in year two, fans and media will be ready to cut him loose.

Long gone are the days in Dallas where you stick with a coach for a decade and let the players and coaches all know the system in and out and build a team to compete for a SB.

Would today's fans even wait 3 years for Jimmy Johnson?

New coaches mean new systems...Romo has only known one offense...new coaches, especially on offense moreso than defense, usually means two steps back before forging ahead again.

I don't see many patient fans around these parts.

This.

Also, I can't wait to see Dan Snyder's hiring history and personnel decisions sink Shanahan's marketability for ever getting another job at a high level again.

Washington: Where NFL Coaches go to Retire.

Shanahan and Snyder making personnel decisions together

makes my heart glad

they both are terrible at it

Garrett, Ron Rivera, Mike Zimmer, Todd Bowles...that's where we are at. Unless Jeff Fisher or Jack Del Rio become available.

Cowher, Gruden, Holmgren - none of those guys will be the next coach.

Wade will be coach in 2010 once we finish off the 7 game win streak that begins tomorrow night.

nice.

that leaves us with the worst owner in the division. atleast Snyder has accepted the fact he doesn't know football so he's hired people who do. now Jerry well...... we're about to enter year 13 of accomplishing nothing.

He also said Gruden was with espn next year.

Where does that leave us?? Cowher? Garrett? College coach?

I don't want Shanahan. I'm praying he goes to Washington.

I'm hoping we find our way this season so that the coaches can be retained one more season, and then we go after Gruden in 2011.

I agree with you on Shanahan.

I don't care for Gruden all that much though.

1) not a Holmgren fan but...but you cant deny what he did for 2 franchises...GB and Seattle were complete jokes of the league when he took over and turned them both into SB teams.......

2)long gone are the days of any team keeping a coach for a decade....it rarley happens anymore

3)i believe this is Romos 2nd offense..

I'm for Rivera, make Rob Chudzinski the O-Coordinator. See who Rivera wants to have on his staff, he'll probably keep most of the rest of the assistants since his scheme is similar as well as the type of offense Chudzinski runs. That may give Campo the heave ho.

I honestly believe this is a much, much better fit than Shanahan. I think Shanny is one of the sharpest offensive minds out there and arguably the best gameplanner in the league. But we would have a big overhaul on both sides of the ball to fit what he wants. The Skins still have a big overhaul as their O-Line is pretty much shot, they'll probably need to look at tailbacks soon and they don't have a QB.

IMO, if the Cowboys were to hire Shanny I would be more 'hopeful' that it would work out. If they hired Rivera and Chudzinski, I would be more confident that it will work out.

Could be wrong, but that's just my thoughts on things.

Pete Carrol has coached in the NFL before...has run a successful program at USC...and may be ready finally for a new challenge.

I think he would bring leadership, NFL experience, a little fire, and a pretty good defensive mind.

He's certainly had great success finding offensive coordinators at USC who have gone on to be head coaches themselves.

I don't really want any more NFL retreads who are in their 60's. Unless you hire a coordinator off a championship caliber team, a guy who's been there recently, proven himself, and can bring that right to Valley Ranch, I'd just as soon find a head coach from the college ranks, as long as he has some NFL experience with him.

I think I'll attach myself to the Bowles HC idea (parcells316, great call)

has history here

the players loved him while he was here

experience coaching in the 3-4

Not that I want Shanahan or anything, but why would any top-tier coaching candidate out there make any decision until they see what Jerry's going to do? Wouldn't it be smart to wait on all the major players so you have people to bargain with and bid one against the other?

And, don't get too excited about the Allen hiring, either. It's not like anybody was hot to get him on their staff at any point this year. Smacks of another Joe Gibbs type nostalgia PR hiring to curry favor with the huddled masses. No way Snyder's changing his ways.

The offenses are not that dramatically different. Some of the verbiage may be, but both offenses are deep pass pattern offenses. Garrett is likely to move guys around a little more than Parcells was, but Parcells was much more likely to use play action.

If they went to a WCO, to me that would be a certifiable change to a different offense.
