The thing I don't understand in all of this is why do we not invest a high pick in a quality QB prospect?

Who?

Has anyone drafted in the last 4 years that we had a remote shot at made a significant impact in the NFL?

Maybe Leftwich, but we were still committed by Jerry to the Carter/Hutch experiement. After that, I can't think of a single QB of any consequence that we have passed on when we had the chance.

Furthermore, technically we did it with Henson. We spent a third round pick for a guy who by just about every scouting report around supposedly had first round talent. Is there really any difference between taking Henson or some other QB project in the 3rd (cause lets face it, by the 3rd round most QBs are projects of one sort or another)?

I don't mean this in an adversarial way, but name names. Leftwich aside, who would you have picked in the last 4 drafts who you think would be significantly better than what we have on the roster now? WHo was available when we picked someone else that was a significant upgrade in potential to Henson?

Only stipulation I'll make is no trading up. We had far too many holes on this team to be packaging draft picks for 1 positon, even QB.
