I agree, I don't think they had a plan to clean house in the secondary. I think they had a very good read on what all four guys were worth and weren't going to exceed it because they had other options - both in FA and in the draft.

All four were paid more than Dallas was willing to pay and I agree with all four decisions. I wouldn't have given Wilcox one quarter of what he signed for with the Bucs.

But again, if any of those guy's were turnover machines, they'd still be Cowboys. The price they were willing to pay was directly impacted by the lack of turnovers that group yielded.

I would not have an issue if Dallas drafted Peppers. Very physical player and very athletic.

The Cowboys already have the physical/athletic equivalent of Peppers in Heath. Their combines are actually pretty similar (Heath ran a 4.40 / Peppers ran a 4.46 / Heath bp 22 / Peppers bp 18 / Heath 37 inch vert / Peppers 35.5). I really think at the end of the day the Cowboys don't want a liability in coverage back there and the one negative thing I keep seeing about Peppers is his inability to cover. I just can't see the Cowboys spending a first rounder for a guy who is going to be expected to cover a lot in this division. And I gotta tell you; I've been watching football for a long time. Rare is the prospect who comes into the pro's whose criticism is covering receivers and turns it into a strong suit. At this point, you either got it or you will never get it....as a general rule. And I don't think the Cowboys have any patience left in trying to teach athletes how to cover...especially when they have a similar athlete on the team who has been learning on the job for 4 years in Heath.

I think the passing on Claiborne was more about his inability to stay healthy than anything.

They didn't really pass on him altogether. It was rumored they would offer him a 1 year deal but the Ravens contract was higher.

So if the Cowboys were stuck on $3.5MM for one year and he left for $5MM, I am not sure that was the wisest move by Dallas.

I suspect, though I certainly could be wrong, that the Cowboys are wanting the ability to float Romo's contract for the year, if necessary. So, that 1.5 mil could be the difference in being able to afford it should it come to that.

That 1.5MM makes little difference when you look at their cap.

It's been my opinion that they had to bring Claiborne or Carr back. Carr got severely overpaid, so he was a no go. But in bringing Claiborne back, you take the pressure off the draft and having to possibly take a couple of CBs, maybe 3 defensive backs total.

With 6 picks, heading into the draft knowing you might need up to 3 DBs is really a peculiar situation to be in.

Yeah but he generated massive amounts of turnovers in college! That should have translated over into the pros!

Reality is if you put a quality secondary with a good pass rush out there, the turnovers will come. I won't write a prospect off just because he didn't get enough interceptions in college for my liking. Revis was the best CB in the NFL for a period and he averaged under 3 interceptions a year in college. Not exactly ballhawking greatness.

He had to be a good enough tackler in the NFL to get a chance to play. He can't get INTs if he is not playing.
