Parity? What Parity?

I disagree (partly) and think that this season is a perfect example that parity is alive and active in the NFL.

Parity isn't about a single season but about dynasties. The goal of parity in the NFL is to eliminate dynasties, teams that win year after year, like what we saw in the 60s & 70s. The hope by the league is that teams will cycle through winning and losing seasons as they build and re-build.

The other goal, and why I said I disagreed (partly), is that they want teams to hover around 8-8, some teams at 10-6 and some at 6-10, but not many outside that range.

This year there are 17 teams within 6-4 - 4-6, which is just where the NFL would like them to be. There are 9 teams who are outside the lines with more than 7 wins or losses. That leaves another 6 teams with 7 wins or losses who are on the bubble.

Last year there were 20 teams within the range, and only 5 significantly outside it (13 wins or losses).

I would agree that this year there is a higher percentage outside the preferred range but that this is a little bit of an aberration and not indicative of parity being a thing of the past.

The increase in salary cap the last two years has allowed teams to retain talent more than any other time in the past 13 years.

We are still seeing teams that did poorly last year doing well this year and vice-vera. In fact half of last year's playoff teams are likely to not make it this year.

Just my take on it.

Great post.

We were winning the majority of the game.

After the initial 7-7 trading of TDs score, the Commanders led for less than 13 minutes in the game, and their largest lead was 3. After that, they got their doors blown off.

Continue to find solace in your moral victories. You could join your fellow skins fans' delight in believing that noone has ever contained Marion Barber like the Commanders did. Or surmise that, if Sean Taylor had played...

Oh, what might have been, if the Commanders didn't suck so badly.

Correction. Dallas nearly lost to the Bills. Washington was in the game with Dallas until the 10:00 mark of the fourth quarter. After that point, the Commanders were toast.

The only team that's shown clear superiority IMO is New England. With the exception of the Colts game, they haven't been in jeopardy in the 4th quarter in any game this year.
Superpunk beat me to it.

Football is more popular than ever, record revenues. Pats are a dynasty and it's great that Dallas is back to Super Bowl status with Romo & Co.

I'm not delighting in anything. Truth is we are 5-5 and you are 10-1. We can beat anybody in the NFC on a given week but lose to anybody as well. That's the kind of team we are right now.

Just saying that if we get our act together and make the playoffs, I'm not looking for a "moral victory" if we play you. To Dallas' credit, you have more convincing wins over the "bad teams" and haven't lost to any "bad teams". That's why you're ahead in the division. But the difference between you guys and others in the NFC isn't astronomical is all I am saying.

This joker is still here? I figured after his "Ware is on steroids" post he would have been shown the door.

All I'm saying is how else do you explain the growth curve between getting 2 sacks on Samuels this year and being a non-factor in 2005 against Samuels when both are working just as hard.

I truly do believe he's on roids or HGH even if it hasn't been proven yet. Same with Canty and maybe Spears. These guys are babies age wise but are holding their own and even pushing back against guys who've lifted much longer then they have and not allowing the run with a 3 man front? Plus Ferguson isn't even in there.

Easy, Ware was an unseasoned player back then learning a new position.

Plus Samuels is starting to get a little older himself.

I think Jason "Poise" Campbell is on steroids or HGH, how else do you explain Campbell's 7% increase in accuracy from last year and explain his 340+ passing yards against the Cowboys when Campbell has never thrown for 250 yards before the Cowboys game?

You don't know who's been working harder. No one does.

I swear. Sometimes you have semi-coherent posts, but most of the time the posts that spew from your keyboard are completely moronic.

I think part of the reason is that the salary cap isn't the factor that it once was. It is really jumping by leaps and bounds now (in fact, next year only one team is over the cap as of today, the Commanders).

Two minutes left and 1st and 10 on your 19 with us having gained more then 400 yards of offense? I don't believe you if you don't say you weren't sweating at least a little bit.

I hope we get to play you guys again in the playoffs, I really do. I don't think the last game of the regular season will be of consequence to you at this point, so I won't enjoy a win there nearly as much.

Nope not at all .... I have faith in my Football team .... they are not losers like the Commanders.

You fail to realize that Gibbs could very well have this as part of his strategy. What really matter are the games in December and January and NOBODY in the NFL is BETTER THEN GIBBS AT THESE.

I'm beginning to see the Master Plan that I envisioned upon Gibbs' return.

So what have we had? Two 5-0 teams face each other? A 7-0 face an 8-0? And now two 10-1 teams squaring off...

Many have talked about all the parity in the league over the last decade.

Not this year.

You truly have some dominant teams and at least one that is absolutely dreadful (Miami).

So for at least the rest of this season let's drop the "p" word. :)

Ya know the test is how long these teams can keep rolling. Green Bay was pretty bad last and Dallas didn't win a playoff game.

Right now the only argument for parity as a myth is the patriots but they cheat:)

I think we will see good drafting and smart front offices are key to rising above parity in a cap league. That and finding a franchise QB on the cheap.

I hope you look back at these posts when you get older and see how stupid ALL of your posts are. And you'll finally say, MAN!, I should've been a Cowboys fan.

You are either a comical genius or a complete idiot.

I would say the chances are 5/95
