News: Parsons: 'College football is a joke'

I don’t at ALL see how introducing millions of dollars available to give to players supposedly REDUCES corruption.

Doubtful. Probably much worse. Maybe someone can offer a side I’m not seeing.

The gap between the ‘haves and have nots’ continues to widen.

I don’t really follow college sports but it does seem as if many, many of them…in football and basketball…transfer from school to school as if they are pro free agents on one year deals.
It's a hot mess but thank god it appears Congress is about to put a lid on it.

I will add that Congress MUST do something or it will get permanently worse. The NCAA leadership is made up of corrupt bureaucrats. They need to be dismantled. Not that Congress is better but something needs to change.

The other thing that kills me is the sports gambling. Unrelenting promotion during games with disclaimers about gambling addictions. Then people freak out when athletes get involved. How is anyone surprised by that???

So much stupidity going on.

New bill in Congress would revolutionize college athletics — and end the NCAA

The Sweet 16 was great but what’s not talked about is the disparity between big conferences and mid majors. There will be 20/25 teams that can compete. That’s it.
Agreed. There are all sorts of other ramifications as well people don't talk about much, e.g., apparently there is a good chance that some schools have to shut down sports that don't make money if they are forced to pay players like employees. It's really sad.

Are these NIL payments treated as taxable income for the student/athletes or for lack of a better word gifts?

But hey the Big 10 will have 27 teams in it and you get to bet under / overs and prop bets. Amerika!!!

College sports has become so gross. You really have to turn a blind eye to so much in order to still enjoy it.
There is a new group of players every year, and it's not just the guys who get no playing time. You have starters at big-time programs leaving to go to another big time program. It's stupidity.

College sports suck because of the NIL and how there are barely any rules.

I was just talking about this to someone. I had no idea some of these players are getting 4Mil. That's wild.
That's close to what Arch Manning got last year without even being a starter. The deals are getting rediculous. Part of me is glad college kids are getting paid. But the transfer portal and all that makes it unbearable.
