Lamar had a shot at a market value contract. He doesn't want that. He wants a Watson type contract. Around 230-250M a year fully guaranteed. He's probably not getting that from anyone. So I don't know what he's going to do. Let's see what Herbert, Burrow, and QBs up for an extension get after the draft.
The problem with Lamar is 66m$. This is the amount of cash difference paid to Josh Allen so far on his second contract than to Lamar while at the end of his rookie deal the last 2 years, despite being taken in the same draft class. LJ could have had that money, his first 3 years look better with the MVP award; but Lamar will never make up this difference now. He may sign a deal this offseason that gives him a large signing bonus and close the gap, but Josh will always be 2 years closer to his next signing bonus than Lamar.

It is not about maximizing his money, he’s left that marina already. This is now Lamar on a mission to prove a point: by not signing an agent, he can do better for himself than any player has done before.

An MVP winning QB has probably never been cut early in his very first post-rookie contract. So it doesn’t even matter if the full thing is guaranteed or not, it effectively will be as he’ll see every cent anyway. It’s only about the perception of what he’s doing and how he did it that matters. This is his moment, he’ll never be more famous than right now in this instant.

Because of this, I believe he won’t give in. He won’t take a normal QB contract and basically admit he was wrong. He’ll have to play on the franchise tag, or Baltimore will negotiate a very short term deal that’s more favorable… OR it’s possible he sits out.

Someone on Rich Eisen as a guest brought up the possibility he never plays in the NFL again by his own choice. Sounds crazy, but we already know his ego is willing to go this far, so who knows

I remember when Floatyworm suggested early last season that we should trade Parsons for a Herschel Walker level deal while he was the hottest player in the league. You all laughed at the idea. But now at least some of you are coming around to the idea that Parsons' second contract is never going to be worth his "market value".
For all of his elite skills, you have to keep OL off of him, otherwise he gives you just above average production. Not worth a $250 million contract, IMO.

Jackson has been league MVP, Watson's embarrassed himself so I do not blame Jackson but I do agree about him getting that, too much injury history and risky play for that much $. You can put Russell Wilson in that group Jackson is looking at as well, and probably Murray. Interesting that both of those last two QB's, their teams wished they hadn't done the deal. Coach killers.

Burrow, Herbert and Lawrence are going to take it to another level with what they get. Their value grows with Mahomes because all three are AFC and know they have to contend with the best QB's in the league.

I think he'll play on the tag, that's serious money and if he shows he can play all 17, he could go for the gold all over again.

He was offered a contract early comparable to Wentz and he declined, knowing he could force them into paying more later

Notice the date, 2019

Was this before or after Wentz was signed? If it was after they low ball him some.

The tweet was right after, but the report is just that he was offered it at some point that offseason. Likely before Wentz because like you mentioned would be weird to offer less after his contemporary got more
