I know this may sound crazy but is it possible this could come down to Dak or Parsons? Just don't see how we can afford both contracts for more than a year or two ( that's overlapping) and field a competitive team.
Don't forget you have Lamb and Diggs who may command record deals at their positions within the next year too. Good news is the Cowboys have a ton of payroll flexibility with so many contracts about to fall off where they could sign all these guys no problem. Bad news is locking all these guys up probably keeps us out of the free agent market again for the foreseeable future.

why do people even question extending dak??? the Cowboys will be EXTENDING DAK... it isnt even a question. ONLY questions are for how long and how much. Why dont we just build a formidable defense???? what would you say we had last year? In todays NFL rosters are 2 years at a time. You simply lose too many players. What is gonna happen after we extend Diggs, Micah and CeeDee to our roster? Dak gonna get huge money, and same with those others.... we better win now, as we are about to have a damn hard time dealing with the cap.
Take a chill pill buddy, I misread what @Flamma was saying.

.....don't forget, he will not be loved on this board after rookie contract. Wait for it.
Depends on if he lives up to it by maintaining a high level. We’ve seen several here “retire” after signing the big contract so the fans feelings are justified in some cases.

He and his agent will read through that. There's no way in hell you're getting a 6th year ( maybe not a 5th ) from him w/o a new deal or holdout.
He has no choice if we activate the fifth year option. He has no choice if we tag him. When was the last time you saw a player skip a season? They often skip voluntary activities, but they show up when money is at stake, especially millions and millions for 5th year or franchise tags.

It was running back Bell for the steelers, right? He pretty much screwed himself. But I highly doubt the Cowboys go that route with Parsons.

Micah will want to be paid in line with Watt, Bosa, and Garrett.
No he won't.

He won't want to be paid in line with Bosa, Watt and Garrett. Those contracts are sooooooOoOOOOoooo 2021. He's going to want to be paid more, much, MUCH more, than any of those guys.

And.....he's gonna want The G-Word.

I think the new cba has heftier fines for not sitting out. Usually players show up and say they have a hammy pull or something so they aren't really practicing.

Yep, it doesnt matter whatever we want to call him (LB or Edge), HE will ensure he becomes the highest paid Defensive player in the league.....if we dont want to pay it, he'll get it from somewhere else.
The Cowboys might be better off franchising him for two consecutive years and then letting him walk. That is 7 years under contract. His APY will probably lower under the tag than what his new contract would cost us.

If the FO is smart they will extend him early.
once again...... another person that thinks these players and agents are stupid. They will sign if it benefits them. If there is another big player due to sign a big deal, they will wait to sign after and make even more money. You cant sign someone early that doesnt want to sign early.

Good point, it's certainly the cheapest option, just wonder how peeved Micah would be. However, every team needs to be built around a base of top players and Micah is the type of player that has the ...."follow me", type of leadership, which tends to elevate the whole roster.

Yep, there's no cheap Early Bird Discount

That won't happen. They will try to sign him to an extension after this season. But there will be no discount. The reason you want to sign him after his 3rd year is because you still have 2 years left on his rookie contract. More years to spread out the money. Any extension Parsons gets doesn't start until 2026. So if he got a 4 year extension starting in 2026, you have 6 years to spread that money out.

I've never seen a player decline a early contract that's at market value. Top market contracts are already design for the added increase in future contracts. That's why they are so high and beat one another. Sometimes it's better to sign early than risk injury. It benefits the team and players. And the agents and players know that.

No, it probably won't happen, but it was still a good point that's feasible.

In theory, yes. In a computer sim, yes. In real life, never going to happen. Not with a player like Parsons. With Byron Jones, yeah. What usually ends up happening with superstars is you either trade the player, Khalil Mack, or pay the player, Aaron Donald.
