This was a long discussion before the draft, but I never thought about Pitts and still don’t think of him as having been an option being a Cowboy because it was clear that he would be gone before we drafted. The fact that we were able to trade down a couple of slots and still draft Parsons is a miracle. OK one made possible because other teams stepped in to draft the corners that we were looking at, but still miraculous.
In retrospect it all fell in the right place for us, and that was amazing.... that we got an extra 3rd rounder on the trade down was just incredible!
Good times !

The Cowboys were rich in assets and completely unbalanced in roster capital at the skill positions on offense and could not deliver when it counted most. If you added a premier TE and took away what the Cowboys were able to do on defense with Parsons, you are looking at a 500 team at best.

Winning is not dependent upon fantasy points.

I think we were fortunate due to circumstance. We kind of knew the Eagles were looking for a WR. Then Chicago traded up for Fields because the Eagles got the WR the Giants wanted. We're kind of lucky they were both looking for WRs. Imagine him on one of those teams terrorizing us? If Pitts somehow fell, I'm sure Jerry would have picked him. Then Parsons probably goes to the Cards if no one traded up for him.

Well stated, the defense had been neglected and turned in one of the worse seasons in our history.
What a dumpster fire that was !

Parsons is the Generational Talent that Pitts Pimpers were crying for before the draft. There was talk of trading up to get him. Lol.

Micah Parsons is one of the best defensive players in the NFL today. 32 NFL GMs would take him over Pitts. Who cares about TE.

Yeah, this isn't even a conversation in hindsight. The question would be, where does Parsons go if they did the draft over again?

Last year leading up to the draft their was quite the debate on if we should draft Pitts if he slid to us at # 10.
Thankfully the Falcons took him and removed the temptation from Jerry.

Both players are generational talents and had outstanding rookie seasons.

Does anyone rue that we missed out on Pitts?

I don't, because defense was a much greater need than offense for last years team.

Thoughts ?

Of course I'd have loved Pitts. The way this offense was funneled to Schultz one can only imagine how awesome Pitts would've been.

That said Parsons is the savior of this defense and we are very fortunate things worked out how they did.

Micah was the correct pick, and we got lucky.

Pitts and the 2 CB's were taken before the Dallas Selection. It made it a no brainer.
But what if Pitts and / or one, or both CB's were available. What then. This would have been debated for years depending on Micah's success somewhere else.

It worked out best.
As Pat Summerall once said...if they get lucky in the draft, and that is just what the draft is, is luck, this team should be good for a very long time.
He was referring to all the Dallas draft picks upcoming from the Walker trade.
He said that on Thanksgiving day in 1990, after Emmitt broke a long TD to ice the game, against the Commodes former team name.

As the draft is luck at times as to the way things fall. It is how Jimmy lucked into getting Emmitt. On 2 failed trade ups to get a LB, James Francis, and Lamar Lathon. So they "settled" to trade up to get Emmitt.
It was actually a no brainer to take Parsons before the CBs and Pitts went. Jonesys just aren't smart enough to understand this.

Pass rusher > pass catcher.

As awesome as I think Pitts will be. People have to realize that blocking or the ability to beat the other teams blocking are the most important things in football.
Cincy and LAR were both in the super bowl due to D. Plain and simple. Man, did you guys watch Cincy's D put a nutlock on KC in the 2nd half of the champ game?

What was the number one problem with this team before that draft? Stopping the run, the Cowboys had their 2nd worst ranking in their history.

Parsons was the easiest pick to make and the Cowboys should feel lucky he didn't play that last year, although Booger said that would make a difference in the selection, because he would not have been there and would have been the first D player off the board.

One thing the Cowboys cannot complain about, luck in the draft. They tried to pick two other QB's before Prescott, Lamb fell to them and CAR and DEN took their picks. You imagine that run D with one of those CB's instead of Parsons? We're complaining about no playoffs as opposed to being one and done.

Ware, we've only seen Parsons for one season.
Ware was a freak of nature and the most dominant edge rusher of his time. To consistently get 20 or so sacks on a Jerry Jones built D is the greatest NFL feat of all time. Ware is an all time top 5 pass rusher.

Well said.

Now, if we can just continue this and get some more tough dudes up front. A disruptive pocket pushing NT would make Parsons even more effective.
