thanks for the list , saved that for reference.
For every good player they have also drafted a lemon or a bust.
I guess every team does .

The jones boys have built 4 SB capable teams,
2007
2014
2016
2022
all failed to get to SB due to poor coaching , and who hires the coaches? the jones boys.
Also the jones boys tend to make some goofy moves, and meddle when they shouldnt in those years.

It took the jones boys 2-3 years to see that pollard should be the main back, and that is just too long lol.
These type things add up, and can keep a team from reaching a goal they could have reached.

Drafting has been pretty good. I'll give the JonesBoys Brain Trust a good grade there. McCarthy, despite his flaws, is an improvement over all coaches since at least Parcells. Somehow this all has to result in at least one title game appearance in the near future. The window is certainly open in the NFC for the next couple of years.

With nothing at all to show for it.

Shame.
Huh? You have not been entertained over all those years as each game was won, as you can't win them all.
You were not excited as they made the playoffs or on the verge of making the playoffs, so you just look back as everything as a failure because they did not win a SB?

The goal and excitement of watching the games as they near the playoffs?

Huh? You have not been entertained over all those years as each game was won, as you can't win them all.
You were not excited as they made the playoffs or on the verge of making the playoffs, so you just look back as everything as a failure because they did not win a SB?

The goal and excitement of watching the games as they near the playoffs?
Is this sarcasam?

I ain't about that participation trophy "I just hope both teams have fun" type of stuff.

Not sarcasm, just asking, do you (or any fan) enjoy any game(s) leading up to qualifying for the playoffs. And not using hindsight now, as an overall disappointment. You know, live in the moment type fun of a game in anticipation to the next game.

Say in 2014, they were running the ball very well. Ball control, rested the defense, a style that worked, and with a veteran QB in Romo. As they won games, and was nearing clinching a playoff spot. Was that not fun times to watch?
Yes another disappointing end to the season with a playoff loss. But it was good to watch them getting to that point.

2016, Romo goes down, as we now have a 4th round raw rookie, season over right? But wait, they win, and win again. Regardless of what anyone thought of Dak at the time, good, bad or bus driver or dink and dunk, and again, using no hindsight of what it going on now with him. Was that season not exciting a 4th round rookie leading us to the playoffs?

Speaking of 2014, what is needed, get back to that running game control offense. Can you imagine this defense now, being rested, as opposed to a very suspect defense going into the 2014 season?

thanks for the list , saved that for reference.

These type things add up, and can keep a team from reaching a goal they could have reached.
not 4... all playoff appearances are a shot at a SB for every team and 18 that late run is what typically launches team they traded for cooper went on a run and los tot the rams in the 2nd round..it happens but that year wasn't any different of Better than boat NYG runs.. you do not get to choose in hindsight which were more capable, all of them count.

Nah, not really.

Because I know where it's all headed in the end. I watch now to see how they fail this time. It's kinda hard to allow yourself to get hype for wins after watching to dumpster fire for the past 30 years.

This organization doesn't deserve for it's fans to ever get their hopes up. When they show they can compete for real instead of these paper tigers then I might allow myself to get excited.

It it not even about getting hyped up after a win, nor thinking ... hey SB after a win. Not me anyway.
But you get "hyped" (if that is what one wants to call it) after a win, but soon forget about it, and then the next game, knowing it could be a loss, but you live in the moment for that next game.

I understand the hindsight though. Many were hyped after the TB playoff win. I think many were hyped we beat Brady, finally (no matter how he played, as the defense had a part in that) and won a road playoff game. That meant more to me than how well Dak played.
Only to have the life sucked from a fan (again) in SF. I get that. And it sours most everything until September for some, I guess for others it does not.

If I ever get to the point that I will feel disappointed in every game win or loss because I expect failure in the playoffs. Then I will stop watching sports altogether.

Culture is the issue. Period. I think this coaching staff is solid.

The wins/loses of this organization don't really affect me much anymore.

I like when they win. I don't when they lose. I'm over it either way pretty quickly.

It would be interesting to see which cowboys players started for other teams that did well in the playoffs, Ware, Awuzie, and Hitchens come to mind.

Ware won a SB with Denver, Hitchens with KC. I believe there were 5 ex Cowboys on KC's SB win was several years back.
I believe Awuzie was on IR when Cincinnati played in their SB. Or was he on IR last season, or both.

But yeah what about players that came here. Are you talking current roster, or any player from any year?

Thanks as always for the homework involved here. With the addition of Will McClay the last decade, the Cowboys have greatly improved its drafting. McClay is clearly the gem of this front office.

IMO, what has tripped us up is the poorly thought out moves (or lack of them) at key moments over the years. Two quick examples-
  1. After releasing Dez Bryant (which was a good decision), the FO decides o go cheap and not acquire appropriate talent at WR going into the 2018 season. That bad decision led to a bad start in 2018, forcing the trade for Amari Cooper at mid-season for a first round pick. That mistake should have taught them not to do that again.
  2. Next bad decision- JJ and SJ got mad at Cooper during the 2021 season and made public overtures last off-season about not keeping him. Which led to us only getting a 5th round pick in a trade. They let Cedric Wilson walk- not a bad decision in of itself - Except- They were some how satisfied with what they had. The disastrous opening night performance vs Tampa last season was exemplified by who we started at WR that night: Cedee Lamb (who is obviously good), coupled with UDFA Dennis Houston and career deep backup Noah Brown. Houston was eventually released, Brown did improve some, and Michael Gallup returned (although not at full strength) Whatever anyone thinks of Dak, he’s good enough to win in the playoffs, IF he has enough weapons to support him. He’s not Brady or Rodgers or Mahomes, but if he has support he can win.
Bottom line- this FO has done a good job overall of acquiring talent. But they have lacked the strategic wisdom to know what kind of support their QB they’ve invested in needs. They have had a bad habit of getting cheap and risk averse at the wrong times. In this NFC environment going into 2023, with Brady and Rodgers gone, the path to an NFC championship hasn’t been this wide in years. NOW is the time to get aggressive in getting this roster stocked for a run!

2017 and 2019 really stink. Passing on Watt for Charlton. Awuzie was OK but missing on the top two picks hurts.

We didn't have a first in 2019 but Hill was such a reach, thanks Rod. Metcalf was on the board and even Juan Thornhill has turned into a decent player at S.
