Nah, not really.

Because I know where it's all headed in the end. I watch now to see how they fail this time. It's kinda hard to allow yourself to get hype for wins after watching to dumpster fire for the past 30 years.

This organization doesn't deserve for it's fans to ever get their hopes up. When they show they can compete for real instead of these paper tigers then I might allow myself to get excited.
The approach I've taken, no need to let it bother you like it used to, if so you'll go crazy. You just have to come to expect it until shown differently!!

Games are fun to watch, yet it's like I watched the same thing last season. I could see if we had a bad drought for a few season, I could see, but dang we're talking about decades!!

Ware won a SB with Denver, Hitchens with KC. I believe there were 5 ex Cowboys on KC's SB win was several years back.
I believe Awuzie was on IR when Cincinnati played in their SB. Or was he on IR last season, or both.

But yeah what about players that came here. Are you talking current roster, or any player from any year?
Not really sure what your saying.

thanks for the list , saved that for reference.
For every good player they have also drafted a lemon or a bust.
I guess every team does .

The jones boys have built 4 SB capable teams,
2007
2014
2016
2022
all failed to get to SB due to poor coaching , and who hires the coaches? the jones boys.
Also the jones boys tend to make some goofy moves, and meddle when they shouldnt in those years.

It took the jones boys 2-3 years to see that pollard should be the main back, and that is just too long lol.
These type things add up, and can keep a team from reaching a goal they could have reached.
Not just coaches....come on. When we needed our star leaders to excel....they failed.

Not sarcasm, just asking, do you (or any fan) enjoy any game(s) leading up to qualifying for the playoffs. And not using hindsight now, as an overall disappointment. You know, live in the moment type fun of a game in anticipation to the next game.

Say in 2014, they were running the ball very well. Ball control, rested the defense, a style that worked, and with a veteran QB in Romo. As they won games, and was nearing clinching a playoff spot. Was that not fun times to watch?
Yes another disappointing end to the season with a playoff loss. But it was good to watch them getting to that point.

2016, Romo goes down, as we now have a 4th round raw rookie, season over right? But wait, they win, and win again. Regardless of what anyone thought of Dak at the time, good, bad or bus driver or dink and dunk, and again, using no hindsight of what it going on now with him. Was that season not exciting a 4th round rookie leading us to the playoffs?

Speaking of 2014, what is needed, get back to that running game control offense. Can you imagine this defense now, being rested, as opposed to a very suspect defense going into the 2014 season?
Take away the SB trophies, and the game I enjoyed the most since 1966 was the year we went 1-15, but beat the Commanders….lol.

Huh? You have not been entertained over all those years as each game was won, as you can't win them all.
You were not excited as they made the playoffs or on the verge of making the playoffs, so you just look back as everything as a failure because they did not win a SB?

The goal and excitement of watching the games as they near the playoffs?
As i said...im disappointed....with all these great players and system we are praising here....we have failed to excel. We have people super proud we beat tampa. I am not. Worst team to ever back into playoffs.
When we needed it most....when we needed this system and these players to excel....we failed....often because of ourselves.
Happy to be entertained? Okay...sure. Fine.
I also want to excel and be among the best. Not just from previous achievement.

Not really sure what your saying.
Was just responding to your post about players on rosters that had playoff success associated with Cowboys players. You mentioned Ware, Hitchens and Awuzie.
Maybe I read it the wrong way. Was just saying those 3 did have success.

I loved that game as well. If I remember right, that win kept Washington from making the playoffs.

Yes they were good picks. It just gives confirmation that they were good picks by the Cowboys. Being singed by a bad team and starting would be a little easier.

2017 and 2019 really stink. Passing on Watt for Charlton. Awuzie was OK but missing on the top two picks hurts.

We didn't have a first in 2019 but Hill was such a reach, thanks Rod. Metcalf was on the board and even Juan Thornhill has turned into a decent player at S.
Most teams draft about league-average once the timeline is large enough to be statistically significant.

Imagine if Parcells had stayed for 07!!! Or at the very least Crayton doesn’t drop the 3rd down catch or keeps running through the route at the end.

Worst Year of Rookies in the last 12 years has been 2019, with only 1.32 starters per game played since 2019. Best year was 2016, with 4.71 starts per game played from 2016 rookie class. Order of rookie classes from best to worst is:

  • 2016 - 4.71 starts per game for 2016 rookies (over 114 regular season games)
  • 2018 - 3.93 starts per game for 2018 rookies (over 82 regular season games)
  • 2020 - 3.66 starts per game for 2020 rookies (over 50 regular season games)
  • 2014 - 3.54 starts per game for 2014 rookies (over 146 regular season games)
  • 2011 - 3.41 starts per game for 2011 rookies (over 194 regular season games)
  • 2015 - 2.72 starts per game for 2015 rookies (over 130 regular season games)
  • 2022 - 2.65 starts per game for 2022 rookies (over 17 regular season games)
  • 2012 - 2.61 starts per game for 2012 rookies (over 178 regular season games)
  • 2017 - 2.47 starts per game for 2017 rookies (over 98 regular season games)
  • 2021 - 2.44 starts per game for 2021 rookies (over 34 regular season games)
  • 2013 - 1.93 starts per game for 2013 rookies (over 162 regular season games)
  • 2019 - 1.32 starts per game for 2019 rookies (over 66 regular season games)
When looking at these statistics, remember that the more recent the rookie class, the more chance they have to increase their start rate/game as more rookies mature into starters.

Also, for 2011, the peak start rate for that class of rookies has declined since most of the rookies from 2011 are no longer in the NFL. That just goes to show how good a rookie class that 2011 was - which sustained Jason Garrett for longer than he deserved to be preserved. But there is no doubt that 2019 and 2013 were/are awful years for the Cowboys overall rookie class performance.

2022 already looks like a stellar rookie class, and the start rate for them will only increase as players like Sam Williams, Jake Ferguson, DaRon Bland, Damone Clarke, and Peyton Hendershot increase their individual start rates. I expect the start rate for this class will match the 2018 and 2020 classes, and may even approach the 2016 class start rate at their peak.

What stands out to me is with the exception of Taco, notice the number of games for each 1st round pick.

Translate.... this front office ( Jerry and Stephen )95% of the time, drafts 1st round picks to be day-one starters.

In other words, some fans/posters are starting to talk themselves into certain players and/or positions for our 1st round pick. Put another way, with thinking of our potential pick, ask yourself who is he replacing. We clear open starting positions at LG, TE, RB and CB. So a 1st round pick selected at any other position is expected to send a 2022 starter to the bench. I'm not sure that's going to happen.

Bottom line......IMO 26 will be TE, G, RB ( Robinson only ) or CB. If not, I expect a trade-down......

BTW........Great job Jumbo

Take away the SB trophies, and the game I enjoyed the most since 1966 was the year we went 1-15, but beat the Commanders….lol.
I remember that game well. I was never more happy for a meaningless win in the grand scheme of things than this game if for no other reason than avoiding the embarrassment of becoming the first (at the time) 0-16 team. That it was against Washington was poetic justice.

Interestingly, just 7 years prior the Cowboys were the only team to beat Washington, and thus prevented an undefeated season even if it was a strike shortened year.

This is such a great post and speaks to a lot of issues people have with happiness. Live in the moment. Enjoy the journey. Well said.

But it is going to fall on deaf ears. Mountaineer Cowboys is the BIGGEST troll on this entire thread... and that is saying something.

They have had a bad habit of getting cheap and risk averse at the wrong times.
They are knuckleheads sometimes who every 2/3 years are trying to clean up their own mess. The mess that always set up back a year or two. I mean getting rid of Dez wasn't the problem but trying to replace him with a couple of bottom feeders was just crazy. But what 5/6 games into a potential losing season it hit them ( oops, we messed up ) but then it's costly to clean up.
