Patriots release Stanback

I agree, he wasn't a stupid pick.

But it was pretty crazy about how nearly everyone was SO excited about him. It was Isaiah-Mania for a while there, as if he was a lock to become the next Jerry Rice.

THAT was silly, although that's probably part of what's fun about being a fan.

Not everyone was excited about him....I briefly bought into the hype. It only took about one preseason for me to change my mind. He looked absolutely awful. Completely unnatural. Outside of one or two good kickoff returns, I have no earthly idea why anyone would want this guy on their football team. Track team? Maybe. Football team. Um...no.

I do, however, wish him the best of luck. He was a good sport. I hope he invested wisely.

I still remember when people were convinced this guy had something and were willing to argue it to the death. Oops.

What a complete waste of a draft pick.

Yes it is funny to think back about how many were sure he was going to do something great for us.

But I can not blame anyone for feeling that way.

I blame his Blade Like tattoos that have hypnotic, some have even said jedi like, abilities to make us feel that way.

So you're telling us that every fake-baking, white sunglass wearing, reality-show worshipping frat boy with a tribal arm band has a hypnotic, rufinol-like effect on you?

Ha. I always knew you had a thing for faux-hawks. :D

He also likes guys in football uniforms with crazy looks on their faces. It also helps if they once scored 4td's in a game for Polk HS. :D

Well he's in luck then! I'm going to give myself a faux-hawk today!

he didn't look awful playiung for the Pats, bring him back!

He was just another baseball star who stunk at NFL football.

Hutch
Quincy
Henson
Stanbach

Of course there is a similarity - in what there is for comparison. Both were drafted while hurt. AOA has not gotten well enough to show his potential on the field. At the same juncture after Stanbach was selected, his field potential was just as unknown as that of AOA because he was still unwell.

Some people can't realize they are comparing apples and oranges. They have the benefit of Stanbach's actual NFL experience but none for AOA, yet want to make comparisons of an actual performance to a "possible" one as though they were valid.

The only valid comparisons are the potentials of the players when they were drafted before either of them got on an NFL field.

No faux-hawks...I wish people would just commit and get an actual mohawk instead of trying to half step it with the faux...it shows me they have no heart and are not willing to commit.

I rock a mohawk, but I don't razor the sides, just use clippers, is that still a faux hawk?

actually shaving your head is huge pain in the butt

Why in the world would the Patriots waste a year on a guy who so CLEARLY was not going to make it in the league? They certainly had at least as much access to info & tape on this guy as you. Yet they chose to bring him in.

Lets not overstate this folks. There is enough football potential in this guy that professional staffs (two as of now) were willing to invest time to see if they could unearth real value. Sometimes projects work, sometimes they fail. I just think its a bit disengenuous for people to claim it was clear to them a long time ago and what the heck were others thinking.

No one needs to hang their head in shame if they had hopes in Stanbach. So did the staffs of the Cowboys & the Patriots.

ps - Don't mean to aim this all at you. Your quote just provided a nice springboard for this perspective.

It's much less painful, and safer, if you take your head out of your butt first. :laugh2:

sorry, I just absolutely could not resist that setup.

Depends on if you know Operation Ivy or Rites of Spring. If you listen to Korn, it's not a mohawk. It's fake faggotism borrowed by an uninspired and unimaginative music style.

The Psychobilly mohawk is the only other acceptable form.

All others are worn by weak minded, poorly educated white people with an addiction to the bass drum and an infatuation with growing ****ty mustaches that you can still see your skin through.

No offense taken.

I don't mean to sound arrogant, either.

As far as why the Patriots signed him, I could only suggest that they felt the athletic ability he was blessed with was worth the minimum price tag they payed for him. They gave up far less for him than we did...

Like I said (somewhere), I'm not against these projects (although I prefer they not be changing sports or positions)...I'm just against these projects if it requires giving up more than say a 6th round draft pick for them.

It's simply my take on it....and it goes for all players like Stanback. It's not personal.

FWIW, I still don't see what anyone saw on the field outside of pure athleticism, speed, and some minimal return ability. As a wide receiver, at least to me.....he looked so bad I struggle for adjectives to describe it. It just wasn't there to me....fully willing to admit I'm no professional scout, and that I wasn't granted with the access to film and practices they were...but man, I just thought he sucked. Looked VERY unnatural. Very uncomfortable.

Again, just my opinion....and in no way do I intend this to come across as an "I told you so" post. I can respect those who saw what I didn't....I just can't see it myself.

Can I just say thank you for this mature response.

It is so refreshing to be able to share differences of opinion without someone bowing-up to defend their position or blow yours up at all costs. And it is way too rare here.

Thanks again.
