- Right now insiders believe Sylvester Williams/DT/North Carolina looks like the pick for the Dallas Cowboys in round one. This assumes Kenny Vaccaro does not slide to the 18th pick of the draft as the Cowboys are very high on the Texas safety. Right now I’m told Vaccaro could end up with the New Orleans Saints, who own the 15th selection.

From Rafy Vela

A source tonight said he believes there is no chance the Cowboys can get their hands on either of the big offensive guards, Jonathan Cooper or Chance Warmack. "They're about three or four spots too low for either one of those guys . If they want either of those guys, they're going to have to move up."

University of Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro was mentioned as a more realistic option.

If both guards are really gone (still not completely sold on this) and Richardson is taken I would have no problem with Sly. Definitely Sly over Vacarro though. The value of the safties that will be available in the 2nd are WAY better than Vacarro at 18.

I'll be surprised if Saints don't take Jarvis Jones if he's on board at 15. He would be the perfect fit for their new 3-4 D

Which teams three or four spots above us are realistically going to take a guard? Unless someone jumps us, it looks like Miami is the last most realistic threat to take one at twelve.

gosh I hope not..I want Kenny Vaccaro or one of the guards, but if they're off the board then I'd rather trade down and take players like Reid-Warford-Moore, all under 22.. & Richardson-Williams will be turning 25 during the season, no thanks! Sorry, the age on those 2 bugs me

We deserve everything we get if we select Vacarro.

The scouting reports I read say he needs to improve his instincts as a back half defender and gets caught freelancing and watching the backfield in zone coverage. Maybe those skills are teachable but it seems like kind of a risk with a first round pick.

It's not only risky, it's dumb. You know what's really funny to me? The people who hype this bum defend themselves by bringing up his top safety ranking by all experts. The same experts who had Michael huff as the best safety. Same school, same player. Fast with no instincts. People should watch these guys and form their own opinions, but whatever.

I've watched him his entire career. I don't see any issues with him.

If both guards and vaccaro are gone I'm ok with sly. We need a beast dt like sapp in Tampa defense.

IMO, Huff was then, and is now a better safety than Vaccaro, and Dallas just passed on him.

You're right: that answers my question. They could use a guard, but, really, they've got much bigger needs all over their roster right now. They're more of a threat to trade down than they are to take an OG when they need so many more important positions badly.

And both those Jet picks are inside the top 15...not a great place to be trading up to take an OG, really. If you're moving up into that area, take a position player who's going to be more expensive to resign on his second contract.

I do, too. Maybe one of the OGs is just irresistible to them, but you have to think that, with needs at QB, CB, and DE there, too, and Rex in a make/break year they're going to be looking hard at addressing defense. Especially when they're not going to have the QB position fixed. And at 9 and 13 there are going to be other players available to them with similar grades. It's not like either of the OGs would have 'slipped' at that early point in the first round.

And a new GM is going to want 5 year deals on the most important positions, all things being equal. Locking up your OG for an extra year doesn't help you as much as locking up your top corner or your pass rush specialist does.

The saints draft Vaccaro, other players we like are off the board and we wind up taking Reid.

Yes...As crazy as it sounds....things can be worse than Vaccaro. :laugh2:

Reid is my surprise pick that sends the board into meltdown mode.
