Pax Lynch. Even if we gave up our 2 and 3, Seahawks had rejected

It was reported after the draft that one of the main reasons the Seahawks liked the Broncos' deal better was because the Broncos pick (#31), although only 3 spots above the Cowboys' second round pick (#34), provided them with an extra year option on the rookie contract.

Broaddus claims the deal would have never gone through because of the loss of the 5th year option. Broaddus claims to be good friends with Seahawks GM.

If someone gets hurt then they look stupid for giving him away. He's worth keeping as insurance if that is all you can get.
So spend over two million for one year for insurance?

A little costly for a guard.

Look, I like Leary. I don't have an issue keeping him for just that idea of insurance.

But when you have a commodity, you see what it can bring.

You don't clutch it to your chest because you are scared of injuries.

But that is what we do and have done for a good while.

All in all, I think teams know how we operate. We like to say we take risks but at the end of the day, we end up keeping extra talent we do have until it gets stale.

We have no clue how to market the surplus talent we do have.

There have been numerous examples over the years. This should not even be debatable.

2 million is costly for a backup? In todays nfl, no it is not. You keep him because the pick is not worth losing that insurance.

I guess I know more than ole Jerry Jones who was weeping over this ... Sorry Jerry, you should study more before you waste your tears.

Not very much reported, but the Seahawks target, the reason they traded down was indeed for Germain Ifedi the OG from A&M. The Broncos sent their last pick in the 1st round No. 32 up to No. 26 for Lynch, and the Seahawks got Ifedi.. Who we would have drafted Paxton Lynch also for ..

As either the Seahawks reporter, or a fairly stout NFL reporter tweeted: the Seahawks had good intel that either the Browns or Titans had huge interest in Ifedi .. both picking in the second round just before the Cowboys and just after the Broncos who had the last pick 1st round.

They wouldn't have got Ifedi if they had traded with us - not sure but that was the risk they took. So they didn't call Stephen or Jerry back. Whether the Browns or Titans would have drafted Ifedi not sure, but they got their man.

As you know we offered them our 2nd and 4th and maybe they asked for our 2nd and 3rd and Stephen probably said call us maybe we can make a deal for our 2nd and 3rd . They didn't call back.

The Seahawks got Ifedi, the guy they wanted. So the Cowboys deal was off ..

Cowboys might have given them more value in trade, but they wanted that A&M dude.

So rest easy Cowboys in case Paxton Lynch is great. We couldn't have got him anyways. Unless our 2nd 3rd and 4th. Maybe that would have done the deal ..

The fifth year option also plays a role here. Having a guy for five instead of four adds considerably more value to #32 vs. a 2nd

Call me fickle but i'm not interested in selling away quality depth at, arguably, the most position group on this team for peanuts.

I have 0 interest in anything less than a 4th rounder.

Deal or no deal, Paxton or no Paxton, the only thing that puzzles me is why the Seahawks were so enamored with Ifedi to begin with.

Personally I wasn't sold on Lynch. But if the team was sold on Lynch, enough to trade back up into the first round, then they should have gotten it done. Possibly even by drafting him at #4.

I would have given up our 2nd and 3rd for Lynch for sure. That said, Jaylon Smith and Dak Prescott certainly have the potential to make this the "great move that happened by standing pat".

It's always been my belief that the Cowboys wanted Lynch but I believe they wanted Dak too. This reminds me of Jerry crying how he missed out on Manziel and drafted Zach instead. It just feels like this is some sort of mind game with him. If you truly wanted Lynch why was Dak the name that kept being associated with us more than any other qb? They kept bringing him in for workouts...... I'm sure they loved Lynch but I'm not sure if it was to the point of what they allegedly wanted to give up.

5 yeas into the future, we will have threads that will rue the non trade, rather it was truly plausible or not.
We may also have threads saying we got lucky the trade did not go through.
We may also have threads we got the better QB in Dak...or glad we waited another 2 years to get a QB because X QB is better than either threads.

Just hope the  doesn't go stale in the mean time.

This can be a good debate for a long time. I just hope the way it went down works out best. Collins recovers, and plays great, Tapper becomes a steal of the draft, Dak proves out, and Jaylon Smith recovers and becomes the QB of the defense.
That is 4 players making an impact over 1 player, but we still get a decent QB. Unless a better QB prospect falls to us in the next few drafts.

Thank god we didn't get Manziel and instead got Zach. Talk about dodging a bullet. Imagine the media circus to this day if we had.

That's a good point, if the trade was really never going to happen but Jerry was putting out this signal after the draft - it could just be Jerry keeping everyone guessing about what was smoke and what was his real intent. Jerry for all his faults is one of the better smoke signal/poker players in the draft.

"The Broncos sent their last pick in the 1st round No. 32"

Pick 31. At least get the actual pick that was traded correct...

It could be argued it was 32 until the patriots were penalized for deflategate.
