You know what I think? I don't think this discussion is about Cousins or Jimmy G or whomever else you decide to bring up. I also don't think that just because other teams make stupid moves means we should follow suit. That's what I think honestly. The world is full of guys who think they are clutch, determined and whatever else. Point is, if you are able to offer the best price and then you go ahead and increase the price just to do it, you are then bidding against yourself. That's not good business under any circumstances.

That's where I think we are at. Nobody is going to offer Dak 30 mil plus for a long term deal with significant guaranteed money.

I'm a fan of players actually playing out their contracts that they signed. I believe in Dak, but I have questions. I believe a lot of the ailing offense was Linehan, but Dak contributed to that. I would like to see how he does with Moore as OC and fully expect him to kick butt, but on the off chance he's mediocre, better safe than sorry. We've seen too many times what happens to the talent on teams that overpay QB's. Dak can't carry a mediocre team, nor should he be expected to.

I think he'll be a Cowboy for life, but still want to wait to sign him. I'm the same way for all players who signed contracts.

Dak gets credit for the wins and winning the division, but when 2017 happened, suddenly Dak wasn’t responsible for the outcomes of games....... the floundering team around him was.

Dak gets all the credit from one side all the blame from the other, he falls somewhere in the middle. If this year is a 2017 type year I can just see the excuses and blame flying.

I don't know many QBs that don't need players around them. This idea is exaggerated. Especially since Prescott is in the middle of the pack.

Secondly, Prescott will get market value. It's not about what fans "think" he deserves.

I like Dak and I think he's going to keep improving. I'd love to sign him to a new contract this year. BUT...if we are paying him WAY before we have to, then it should be at a team discount...period.. If we don't and his price tag jumps because he's better than even the homers (like me) ever imagined...then great.

Paying him extra...and early...will not make him an elite QB. I'd love to see him get there and I'm hopeful that he will, but a bigger check isn't the missing piece in his performance on the field.

If I pay early, it should be a heck of a deal for me.

Cowboys have yet to bring in any real competition for the job for fear of starting a QB controversy...and fear the other guy would win. His hold on the starting job is tedious @ best.

I'd make him play out this season...then even franchise tag him another to make sure he is worth that kind of committment. He's already got one offensive coordinator fired...I'd make sure he's not the reason for the studdering offense before handing that type of money over.

I never said anything about his contract being against market value. Compared to other qbs and their "market value contract" Dak should not be top 5.

Other words, possible sophomore slums are real. It's how they bounce back. Surprised you haven't heard this.......

But that's not really what people have said. People, specifically many Dak fans, have constantly eluded to 2017 as a year when Dak was let down by no Elliott, questionable WR play, injured OL, etc. Few have talked about sophomore slumps, etc.

The point here is that it's a height of silliness to slam one's fist on the table pumping up the wins he has accumulated and he's the reason why they have won 32 games and then turn around and blame the team for his not so good 2017 season.

You can't have it both ways. You can't just give him the bulk of the credit for our wins and then turn around and make excuses for the poor season.

And you are discounting a very real possibility............ teams see what happened with Jimmy G and Cousins and don't want to repeat that mistake. Inevitably, there is always pull back when things get a bit out of whack.

Also, if you are going to cite what the rest of the league thinks, there's a pretty good chance that around the league, teams don't view Dak as good as Wentz, hence they won't pay him as much as Wentz got.

Something tells me that the Cowboys are also one of those teams that doesn't think he should be paid what Wentz got. If they did, something would be done by now. I think they are holding the line below what Wentz got.

This would be my plan as well. If he blows up this year and plays great and you have to pay him $35MM a year? Fine. At least you have way more confidence in your QB.

Because the downside risk is worth the potential to have to pay a premium IMO. You sign him for a Wentz deal and then he goes out and plays OK and the team just kind of muffles along going 9-7ish, maybe missing the playoffs? Then what? You wake up realizing you are paying what is likely a top 12ish to average QB elite money.

So if he's holding out for big bucks, Wentz or more? Make him play out his last year.

all players do. there is no denying that. but do you elevate the players around you? all we heard, Dak needs a #1 WR...well cooper is a top 5 WR....all we heard is the OL is trash, where they were middle of the pack.... all we heard it was defenses fault that we lost the rams game...…

Dak needs strong, players around him to be able to "drive the bus"....there is nothing wrong with that. everyone thinks being a bus driver is a bad thing. Dak has the ability to limit his mistakes, not take risks, manage the game and help the team to victory. for that he needs a strong supporting cast. the challenge for the cowboys is if they pay him $35 mill a year, can they sign Cooper? then we will hear all the cries, that he doesn't have a #1 WR...can they extend Martin, Fredrick? or Zeke and all we will hear is we have no running game, OL sucks....
