Dalton is better than Romo. Plain and simple. You can't argue how a guy who hasn't been to the playoffs in 5 years is somehow better than a guy who, since he has been drafted, has taken his team to the playoffs 3 consecutive years in a row. That is not a coincidence. They were the laughing stock of the NFL before drafting Dalton. FACT.
My brother-in-law has been a Bengal season ticket holder for many years. I told him about your post and he LOL'ed.

Bengals just gave Dalton 115mil lol

Fact is that is what many do complain, without that they have nothing to say. Romo deal was not out of line. People act as if he is the highest paid QB in the league and he is not. He is paid big money as most QB are unless they are under a rookie contract but for the most part Romo contract is in line with the position.

Dalton is 25 or 26. Romo is an aging QB who is on a decline. Let's not forget that the Bengals were the laughing stock of the league before the arrivals of Andy Dalton and Green. Dalton has had the Bengals in the playoffs for 3 consecutive years. Can the same be said for Romo.. who hasn't sniffed the playoffs since the 2009 season, where he scored an astonishing THREE POINTS in a blowout loss?
must be interesting to look at the world through a fog of crazy hatred

Maybe you should pay attention to the contract details.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cincinnati-bengals/andy-dalton/

If they cut him in 2015, he only counts $9.6M against them in dead money.

In 2016 it is $7.2M.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/tony-romo/

Romo on the other hand will count $27.4M in 2015 and $11.635M in 2016.

Instead of all the chest thumping about how much money they gave Dalton, how about you credit them for the contract negotiations and look at how poorly the "gap guru" Stephen Jones cripples this franchise.

What happens if they cut him 4-5 year into the deal?

Will those numbers continue to go down or is this deal back loaded?

I'm asking cause I have no idea what the numbers look like on their deal.

The dead money keeps going down by $2.4M.

The Bengals really made a great deal as far as protecting themselves if they cut ties with Daltton early.

Pretty dang smart deal on their part then and if that's how they were able to get the deal done then other teams need to start following suit with those types of deals so they don't wreck their cap if a guy they sign doesn't pan out like they believed he would.

What does 24th get you? Cause Packers made the playoffs last year. LOL. The difference between Romo and Rodgers... is that Rodgers doesn't need excuses for not making the playoffs. He is going to get you there regardless of his defense. You gotta love contradicting Romo homers.

Rodgers, Manning, and Brady (up to now at least with Brady) are the only 3 QBs in the league where, assuming those guys are healthy for the entire season, making the playoffs is basically a certainty.

That's why those 3 guys are at the top of the list.

Im not a Romo fan but i understand thats the going rate for a QB that puts up the numbers he does. Im not a stat person but todays NFL is about stats first and wins second.

I know right --- they have so hated the Bengals making the playoffs the last three years since he arrived.

I appreciate the snide remark, like most ***** on the board. BUT.......Look at his stats. They don't warrant 115 mil.

Preface this by saying I don't complain about Romo compared to what we could have so no hater ..just numbers I'm sure were reported in here

@SeanCablinasian

Year 3 Dead Cap Money on extensions:
Romo: $27.4M
Ryan: $18.4M
Flacco: $36.4M
Dalton: $7.2M

Sean Pendergrast @SeanCablinasian Dalton's extension isn't nearly the albatross that Romo's, Ryan's, or Flacco's are. Also not nearly as guaranteed …blogs.houstonpress.com/hairballs/2014…

Isn't that only a problem if Romo doesn't play?

I believe if he is cut. I wasn't trying to make a commentary as much just give out info in response to the thread. I follow this guy on Twitter, who does sports in Houston, and saw the tweet and article. But yeah dead money comes into effect as salary cap space if a player is cut and this what was allocated for that year.

He is paid big money as most QB are unless they are under a rookie contract but for the most part Romo contract is in line with the position.

The main issue is his age and Jerruh's belief that there is some guarantee that because he didn't play his first 4 years that he is a 'young' 34 years old.

If he gets a semi-serious injury in the next 2 seasons, we might as well just pack it in because his cap hits are so high. And they didn't have to be since we could have gotten a much cheaper extension for Romo.

Dalton's contract was necessary. He's their franchise QB and he's only 26 years old. Romo was still under a well paying contract and we gave a giant extension to him while he is past his prime.
