Good post!

I subscribe to the “Peter Principle” whereby Jerry appointed himself into a position he was not competent to fill; he only achieved success when other people (namely Johnson and Parcells) were calling the shots; and the narcissist in him was starved for recognition so he assumed more control and squeezed them out; and from that point out hired retreads and lackeys.

Jerry allowed valuable role players who provided depth to walk and counted on rookies to fill the voids; yes, injuries have depleted the ranks, but the rookies on the OL have struggled; failure to sign a prominent RB was a fatal flaw…passing on Henry for Zeke was idiotic; I’m not sold on Dowdle…the Falcons run defense didn’t appear to be that stout.

Don’t really understand the trade for a WR who is maybe a role player, if that, for a 4th round pick when picks are at a premium for a team who builds solely by the draft. The team needs a talent infusion and cannot fill the voids via draft alone, but so much cap space is tied up in Dak and CD, how do they upgrade talent. Signing Dak to an extension without him playing out this year was a major mistake.

We can all throw hate and vitriol in Jerry’s direction; he doesn’t care; he won’t change his ways. All he cares about is that the Cowboys remain relevant in the press and social media because that is all he has left.

How many teams have we seen rise from the cellar to prominence while Dallas stagnates in mediocrity? Where is the GM whose responsibility is to put together a competitive team…oh yeah, Dallas doesn’t have a legitimate GM, we have the narcissistic billionaire masquerading as one.

Expect to maintain the status quo; don’t be surprised if MM and Zimmer are retained…this is what happens when you don’t know how to fix things, you let them be. Besides Jerry will blame the season on injuries and Dak’s absence…so another moral victory for our beloved Cowboys.
Good post.

Three major flaws beyond the obvious in no order…..

-The inability to recognize that there are inevitable up and down cycles. Regular season success will ensure things get tougher.

-The idea that the draft is the same as free agency as far as replacing players and their ability to have immediate success, if any at all.

-The lack of respect for the coaching staff and what new and innovative schemes mean in todays league. Jerry wants a familiar face so he can control things and have input. Either a retread or someone who isn’t yet ready but Jerry thinks he can “groom.”

i don’t think our first two picks are duds in any respect. knee land looks to be a solid contributor to me and exactly what we need. dutton is struggling but he’s extremely talented and gifted and i believe will be a quality starter. having a relatively high series of draft picks should allow to fill some holes and i think the team will be fine. depending on coaching hire obviously

The vibe in that locker room seems like it's at rock bottom. Turning this around is going to take both the Jones pulling their heads out, and replacing the stench in the room with some new, fresh air.

Anyone betting on both of those things happening anytime soon?

So 4 more years of whining and complaining.
There is a solution.

Stop being a terrible GM.

You act like people are justified in the whining and complaining. Even the national media is now on the bandwagon pointing out what a crap GM he is and how he failed massively.

But the homers want to plug their ears and pretend everything is fine. It's not. And sadly, it could get worse.

Perhaps. But his is the exact place to opine about our team.
It is why we are here, whine, vent, complain, and rightfully so.
Also to praise and give credit and celebrate and give constructive criticism. Not that there is much to praise and celebrate or give credit for.

There is a better chance the Cowboys fall to the bottom of the division then go to the top the next few years and Dak will get all the blame.
Good - Gak’s greediness and Jerry’s ignorance were the perfect storm for this and I hope every Cowboys fan turns on them like rabid St. Bernard’s.

"last year's" draft, not this year's.

Nothing is fine. "All In" a dumpster. I am usually positive, but can also omit when it is all gone to crap.

Jerry the GM will never improve. he will continue to be terrible.

Don't understand what you mean here. I said in other posts that they have a right to whine and complain. And 4 more years of it. Are they not justified to do so?

I get it losing feels hopeless and feels like there's no future. The Cowboys have holes to fill, but look in this league it can turn around quickly. Maybe this type of season gets Jerry motivated to make some more moves and atleast brings in a better coaching staff.

The Cowboys were coming off 3 straight 12 win seasons there should still be enough talent here to be competitive. They need to get better in the trenches though and a fresh coaching perspective.
The trend is not good. Jerry has also gotten more stubborn and defiant to the point he's trashing radio hosts for asking legitimate questions. He's saying things in the press about the team that are clearly not true.

There is no reason to think he'll ever get it at this point. For Jerry to get motivated to make more moves he has to first come to grips with the reality that they are in this spot because of his decision making. And we have seen, he clearly struggles to admit failure. He hunkers down, he makes excuses, he blames other people.

There is zero doubt they will try to resign Parsons (albeit down the road so they don't create cap savings during FA), claim cap issues, make McCarthy the scapegoat (and replace him with another stooge), etc. There is like a .00001% Jerry has true introspection here and realizes he's the problem and has to a 180 here.

Yes, Dallas has locked in years of mediocrity.

The worst part is the lack of hope. There's no chance of a rebuild now, and no chance of getting a better QB.

If the Joneses continue to sit on their hands in free agency and our first round picks continue to disappoint like the last two, it will be a rough stretch for several years. You can’t expect to build a great team adding average low priced free agents and missing on premium draft picks. No hope for Mazi and little hope for Schoonmaker, but hopefully Guyton improves and becomes a solid player. Our last two drafts haven’t been near good enough to overcome all the players we’re losing.

Yeah I think most of us understand that we are likely a .500 at best team the next 2-3 years. I was hopeful over this past offseason they would commit to a semi rebuild and fixing the cap issues, but they really just elected to delay the inevitable.
Agreed

The crossroads was after 2022, IMO.

It was clear to me then that we needed to begin retooling or go "all-in" .

But the FO went straight at the fork and plodded forward with the same status quo moves.

It's only got more hilarious ever since. This recent trade of a 4th for Mingo is the icing on the cake.

The FO is brain dead, and now the cowboys are SOL for the foreseeable future.

Amen.

Their strategy has left them 0 room for error in drafting, and Mazi/Schoon are 2 massive errors.

The Joneses have no long term strategy on how to create a window for a competitive roster.

They plan season-to-season with the vague directive to not compromise a future season's cap, so they never maximize returns in the present

I suggest the admins here create the "Good Old Days Zone", "Classic Cowboys Zone", or "Nostalgia Zone". A lot of members here will be losing interest and tired of the same old discussions and find something better to do. They can get together here though to reminisce.
