That's about right. I read elsewhere that he was seldom if ever injured at Boise St. Hopefully just a freak thing and he heals quickly.

how many rings has their practice won them?

1. You give them 1 year to win a ring?

2. The point is about staying healthy. If you can keep your team healthy, you're very likely to perform better than the same team that can't stay healthy. So all things being equal, our inability to stay healthy works against us.

I would expect to see Crawford and Selvie holding down the starting jobs and the battle for backup just got thinner

Crawford may stay at DE for good and the same applies to Wilber (who might be our best weakside pass rusher now), which would open the door for DT's like Coleman and LB's like Smith to make the team. Bass is another candidate to move to DE on the strong side. I expect a lot more blitzing now.

Yeah.

I don't think losing Lawrence is going to affect the defense vs. the run.

And even with Lawrence the pass rush was going to be uneven... but without him it's potentially downright bad.

We will have to see what Crawford can do. . He saw limited snaps his rookie season and of course missed all of last year. He is having a good camp so we will see what he can bring to the party. No doubt losing Lawrence is a big setback for this unit.

After looking @ the schedule...I'll bet he goes on the PUP....... out the first 6 weeks. Plan on him getting limited rep on Oct 19th
It's too late to put anybody on PUP. They have to start on PUP before taking any reps in training camp.

He'll be back for the game against New Orleans.

The worst part about this is that he's a rookie missing TC and Preseason snaps. But his job is simple-ish.

Good thing we have Ben Gardner.

Smith knew Lawrence was contorted on the play....this team is still dumb....stupidity that starts from the top obviously the entire organization been this way through several careers.

I really don't like Wilbur as a weakside end. Love him as SOLB, but even though he measures large he looks like a small end for some reason.

EDIT: I understand he is actually taller than Lawrence, just saying he seems to get swallowed to me.

Injuries happen in the NFL. I saw an interview with John Fox where he was explaining how the Broncos were limited by injuries in the Super Bowl and that getting those starters back would be a big boon for them.

Injuries happen in the NFL, that is why depth is of vital importance. The problem with the Cowboys is not necessarily injuries per se, but a paper thin roster that has no ability to deal with significant injuries.

Lawrence and Lee are perfect examples. Both of those players were acquired with second round "trade ups." It is well documented that Navarro Bowman was available with the third round pick that was traded to acquire Lee. How does that sound about now--a second round pick and Bowmann on this roster, instead of the injury prone Lee (who, as a PSU alumn, I absolutely love, by the way).

This team also sacrificed this years third rounder to acquire Lawrence (a player we just had to have, which, as it turns out, we won't have for at least a significant period of time). Look at who was available with our original second and the third we traded--a depressing exercise indeed.

The point is, this team continues to put its eggs all in one basket and then when those eggs breaks wonders why the team is stuck in mediocrity.

Its not a curse, its not bad luck, its poor planning that leads to a lack of depth.

Isn't Bowman injured and will miss the 1st game against us?....just saying...

Also, can we retire these old we could have and should have done this in the draft , and got this player in the draft...as you said, injuries happen...too bad not any team has the forsight of who will or will not get injured.

Apparently every team does execpet Dallas, according to some people...

He didn't "start from the top". They were giving him 1st team reps because he was basically destroying Parnell and Weems.

Yep.

Good thing our back 7 is so adept at pass coverage.

We are not snake bitten. Every team has injuries. San Fran is down 2 RBs already. It's a tough sport.

Haha why are some people so insistent on pretending we're not suffering through some more bad luck with injuries? It's like they think the players will read those posts and start to feel sorry for themselves instead of marching on with the "next man up" mantra.

It's been almost comical the way our defensive players have dropped like flies the past few seasons, and although it's still very early, we're right on pace to keep that trend going in 2014.

Fine, San Francisco is down 2 BACKUP RBs. Frank Gore's healthy, but their depth at the position is gone.

We're already without our best defensive player for the season and now we've lost our 2nd + 3rd round pick for roughly the first quarter of the season, a guy our D desperately needed to contribute as a rookie.

Oh, and this after crummy breaks forced us to draft offense with our 1st round pick, despite owning the worst D (and most injury-plagued D) in the NFL last season. We REALLY needed Lawrence to be a player this year, and maybe he still will be. But this REALLY sucks for our D right now.

Tell me... this offseason, how many other teams have already been hurt this badly by the injury bug? It's gotta be less than 5. So yeah, this certainly qualifies as more bad luck.

How can a criticism be "tired" when the conduct criticized continues to be how the Front Office does business? My point is that constantly spending picks to trade up in the draft leaves your roster thin. Within moments of my posting, Bob Sturm published a similar take (which is not a coincidence because I read his blog religiously). Here's what he said:

However, it does speak back to an issue I have been very clear about, which is the Cowboys constant risks in roster building that are a result of their trade up mentality. This puts all eggs into fewer baskets, which makes you more susceptible to the freak injury. If, for instance, you had Kony Ealy and Will Sutton, or Timmy Jernigan and Louis Nix instead of both picks stacked onto the shoulders of DeMarcus Lawrence, you spread out your risk to multiple players and one bad step doesn't threaten to ruin your draft's impact on 2014.

But, here we are. One injury, and suddenly, we are concerned about no draft upgrades on the defense for the entirety of the 1st half of the season.

Source: http://sturminator.blogspot.com/

So its not about knowing the future and predicting what players will get injured. Its about managing risk.
