so this pretty much wastes his first year in the nfl for a rookie to miss this much time means he wont do much

So
the week 4 New Orleans game (Sep 28) at the earliest
the week 8 Washington game (Oct 27) at the latest
how many rings has their practice won them?
I would expect to see Crawford and Selvie holding down the starting jobs and the battle for backup just got thinner
Yeah.
I don't think losing Lawrence is going to affect the defense vs. the run.
And even with Lawrence the pass rush was going to be uneven... but without him it's potentially downright bad.
It's too late to put anybody on PUP. They have to start on PUP before taking any reps in training camp. After looking @ the schedule...I'll bet he goes on the PUP....... out the first 6 weeks. Plan on him getting limited rep on Oct 19th
Crawford may stay at DE for good and the same applies to Wilber (who might be our best weakside pass rusher now), which would open the door for DT's like Coleman and LB's like Smith to make the team. Bass is another candidate to move to DE on the strong side. I expect a lot more blitzing now.
Injuries happen in the NFL. I saw an interview with John Fox where he was explaining how the Broncos were limited by injuries in the Super Bowl and that getting those starters back would be a big boon for them.
Injuries happen in the NFL, that is why depth is of vital importance. The problem with the Cowboys is not necessarily injuries per se, but a paper thin roster that has no ability to deal with significant injuries.
Lawrence and Lee are perfect examples. Both of those players were acquired with second round "trade ups." It is well documented that Navarro Bowman was available with the third round pick that was traded to acquire Lee. How does that sound about now--a second round pick and Bowmann on this roster, instead of the injury prone Lee (who, as a PSU alumn, I absolutely love, by the way).
This team also sacrificed this years third rounder to acquire Lawrence (a player we just had to have, which, as it turns out, we won't have for at least a significant period of time). Look at who was available with our original second and the third we traded--a depressing exercise indeed.
The point is, this team continues to put its eggs all in one basket and then when those eggs breaks wonders why the team is stuck in mediocrity.
Its not a curse, its not bad luck, its poor planning that leads to a lack of depth.
Smith knew Lawrence was contorted on the play....this team is still dumb....stupidity that starts from the top obviously the entire organization been this way through several careers.

We are not snake bitten. Every team has injuries. San Fran is down 2 RBs already. It's a tough sport.
Isn't Bowman injured and will miss the 1st game against us?....just saying...
Also, can we retire these old we could have and should have done this in the draft , and got this player in the draft...as you said, injuries happen...too bad not any team has the forsight of who will or will not get injured.
Apparently every team does execpet Dallas, according to some people...
However, it does speak back to an issue I have been very clear about, which is the Cowboys constant risks in roster building that are a result of their trade up mentality. This puts all eggs into fewer baskets, which makes you more susceptible to the freak injury. If, for instance, you had Kony Ealy and Will Sutton, or Timmy Jernigan and Louis Nix instead of both picks stacked onto the shoulders of DeMarcus Lawrence, you spread out your risk to multiple players and one bad step doesn't threaten to ruin your draft's impact on 2014.
But, here we are. One injury, and suddenly, we are concerned about no draft upgrades on the defense for the entirety of the 1st half of the season.
