Per Mike Fisher, source says signing of Williams, end of Rico with the Cowboys

I hear you, but can you really trust that the FO can manage the RB situation when they brought Zeke back last year with Jerry thinking he was still a franchise RB, to the extent they passed on Henry.
I am afraid that Dallas will draft a RB in the 1st round and not make any improvements to the OL…they have to replace a future HOF at RG…a big ask; this will impact the run game. Why draft a premiere RB to run behind a sub-par OL?
I'm afraid of the opposite, that signing Williams and a supposed strong RB class will make them think they can just find a back to pair with him in the late rounds.

Honestly, I'm OK with sticking with the line as is. We have several promising young players so I'd rather give them a shot this year and address other positions, including RB, in the draft. I think we can figure out five quality starters among Guyton, Smith, Beebe, Richard, Hoffman, Bass and Steele. And now we've added Robert Jones to that list, although I see him more as a swing backup.

I agree. Three of his four 100 yard games last season were against terrible run defenses (Giants, Bengals, Panthers).
The thing that separates Rico from the kind of guy I want at RB is that doesn’t make people miss when he gets to the 2nd level. I want a guy that gets the yards he should but also gets the yards he shouldn’t. That is not Rico.

I hope you’re right about the OL and young players stepping up because they will have to; Steele is definitely not the same player he was since his surgery and Guyton I believe was in and out of the lineup with injuries. Time will tell…

What other RB's were out there in FA to go get. Fans act like there were a bunch of Barkley bargains.

Williams replaces Rico. He is not being given the starter role. He will compete with1 or 2 drafts RB's.

No offense but if you want players who are actually really good at what they do for a living?

.....you should switch teams.

Here we amass people who want to collect some easy dollars.

Curious to see the market for Rico. Definitely more of a cut throat market for RBs, especially the longer it takes.

No, Jerry didn't thing Zeke was a franchise back, he didn't sign Henry because everybody and their cousin was saying sign Henry.

Jerry WILL NOT do what "everybody" else says to do, he HAS to show he knows better than anyone else.'

I'm sure he wanted Henry but not if it meant he would look like he's not the smartest GM ever, so not a chance...

LOL, of course it likely does. When rumors came out that Dowdle might get $6MM or more (AAV) in FA, it was over for him here.

The Cowboys did what they always do. Watch a productive player go out the door because they are so cheap, maybe sign a worse player for less money and hope that they somehow get lucky. Or assume a draft pick will just fix the problem.

It's literally been their strategy for the past decade.
Past 2.5 decades

For starters, a rookie will beat him out. But still, Williams will be a decent backup. Better than Zeke last year.
None of the backs in this draft score very high in pass protection. Even for college standards.
With a QB receiving 60m a year coming back from an injury where his hamstring was ripped off his buttbone it’s a fair bet Williams is the starter by default until whatever RB they draft is up to speed!

For perspective, Zeke's cap hit last season (2024) was $8.04 Million! Dallas will now let a far better RB walk that would cost significantly less.

I would have brought Rico back - I thought he really played well once they gave him the ball. This was with a backup QB and one real WR weapon running routes. Runs hard, physical and doesn't turn the ball over.

After thinking about it why would we want a guy like that.
