Per Mike Fisher, source says signing of Williams, end of Rico with the Cowboys

I hope you’re right about the OL and young players stepping up because they will have to; Steele is definitely not the same player he was since his surgery and Guyton I believe was in and out of the lineup with injuries. Time will tell…
It may not work out, but you can't fix everything and we might be fixing something that doesn't need fixing if we don't take time to find out. Our line has two first-round picks and a third-rounder on it already. Yes, the other two spots are manned by UDFAs and can be improved, but the UDFAs showed some ability to play and I like our fourth-rounder as well as a guard or tackle option. Let's see what happens and if it doesn't work, then come back to the drawing board on that one next year.

Meanwhile, let's fix some areas that we know absolutely need fixing.

For perspective, Zeke's cap hit last season (2024) was $8.04 Million! Dallas will now let a far better RB walk that would cost significantly less.
$6.04 million of that was dead money from the previous contract we gave him when he was one of the best RBs in the league. Dowdle would not be significantly less than the $2 million we paid Elliott last year to come back.

Rico is just as good if not better than this guy>IMHO.....Jerry chances coaches like he does his old under wear. Yet the results are the same. Stained with the same OLE ###

Well, it makes sense. Dowdle has one year of success that came at the right time for him to maximize his value. I can't blame Dallas on this one for feeling that he might not worth his market value. I'd prefer that their answer be getting a back who has done better than averaging under 4 yard per carry the past two years, but you can't buy filet mignon with food stamps.
Yes you can lol

well hopefully they shore it up in draft because i consider this a downgrade. Not that Rico is all world but Williams may be past his effectiveness. Hes better than zeke but not by much from what i read. Give me Jeanty or hampton please.

Of course what you say is true, but that dead money counts exactly the same against the cap as the 2024 salary dollars did. $8M of the 2024 cap space went to a washed up Zeke. That almost pays for Derrick Henry. Bad resource allocation by a bad GM.

So, is Javonte like a "Zeke Elliott" from last season? Or is he better?

There's at least hope he can be better. He's a big back who showed promise a couple years ago. Was a nice prospect.

My hope would be Denver running game sucked all around and the change in scenery makes a difference.

We still need some lightening to go with the thunder. Imo.

Yeah, but I don't think we can count that the same as paying Rico $6 million a year now. That was already sunk cost. It wasn't like we gave Elliott $8 million to come back. We gave him market value. Rico's market value is higher because he's coming off a good year. We chose to go cheaper at the position, with a back playing closer to Elliott's level the last few years of his career.

Now, I think Williams might give us more than Elliott did simply because I don't think it was wear and tear affecting Williams while Elliott was clearly worn down.
