Per Mike Fisher, source says signing of Williams, end of Rico with the Cowboys

What other RB's were out there in FA to go get. Fans act like there were a bunch of Barkley bargains.

Williams replaces Rico. He is not being given the starter role. He will compete with1 or 2 drafts RB's.

Rico is average.

A prove it deal for Williams and then draft a rookie RB that can start for the future and we should be alright.

Deuce, Turpin, and Luepke to be role/gadget backs and we may see an uptick in production with Adams and Riley running things.

Time will tell, but I don’t think we will miss Rico, though I wish him well

Probably means Rico is gone

Cowboys Source Says Javonte Williams Signing Means End of 1,000 Yard Success Story - Mike Fisher article
______________

I think I identified his source. Fisher probably reads CowboysZone each day for inspiration confirmation.

you clearly don't know this team!! Here's how it goes, We draft Jenty/Hampton/Johnson one of those guys, he comes in here and AUTOMATICALLY goes to 3rd on the depth chart, Williams gets all the starting reps, THEN when the season starts, he's named the starter!

They do the same with all their first round guys for some reason it's weird, see Micah, See Guyton, See Smith etc!!!

I know how the fans work. :lmao:

Not that I was hoping they would overpay for Rico but to think that a guy thats had a major knee injury, is averaging 3.7 yds a carry for his career and peaked 4 years ago in his rookie season is the solution is pretty sad. Yeah I know they are rumored to be addressing the position in the draft but knowing Dumb & Dumbers track record it's probably not going to be a pick we expect or would be happy with.

I look at it this way: if the plan is to draft a running back somewhere in the first three rounds, it didn't make much sense to pay Dowdle a lot just to serve in the same role he did behind Tony Pollard a couple years ago.

So they signed Williams on the cheap to be the veteran part of the tandem. At least, that's what I hope.

Post of your life!!!!!

You guys crying over Rico are funny. He is nothing special. That 1,000 yard season has you fooled. Whatever back we sign now will just back up the guy we draft. I would rather have a bruiser as a backup.

I agree. Three of his four 100 yard games last season were against terrible run defenses (Giants, Bengals, Panthers).

I'd have to qualify the statement with how much some other team will offer Rico. I don't see that Jerry won't offer him a decent salary, but if some other team will pay Rico $6-7 mil a year, of course he'll be gone. At this point in his career, I don't see he's shown enough for that kind of pay, but with Watson being offered a gigantic salary like he was, would have no problem believing another team would pay him that.

But for all the "bye Rico" folks, if he's that bad, why would another team offer him a big salary?

Well, it makes sense. Dowdle has one year of success that came at the right time for him to maximize his value. I can't blame Dallas on this one for feeling that he might not worth his market value. I'd prefer that their answer be getting a back who has done better than averaging under 4 yard per carry the past two years, but you can't buy filet mignon with food stamps.
I hear you, but can you really trust that the FO can manage the RB situation when they brought Zeke back last year with Jerry thinking he was still a franchise RB, to the extent they passed on Henry.
I am afraid that Dallas will draft a RB in the 1st round and not make any improvements to the OL…they have to replace a future HOF at RG…a big ask; this will impact the run game. Why draft a premiere RB to run behind a sub-par OL?
