Oh well. I gave up on Holmgren when the Cleveland rumors first started. Shanahan would be option B, but he probably would be anxious for a place like Buffalo where he could exert more authority.
It is irrelevant anyways. We will continue with what we have. Family picture and all of that.
I live in Cleveland, like 3 minutes on the freeway from Cleveland Browns Stadium. Mike Holmgren may BE in Cleveland but I find it hard to believe that he actually ends up here. Holmgren is no fool and I'm sure he realizes how dysfunctional the Browns ORGANIZATION is right now under Randy Lerner.
As members of this board, if one of us behaves really inappropriately...word gets around. Do you really think it's any different in the NFL? Players and coaches workout and train and attend seminars and clinics in the offseason and you know they talk about their trade, their LOVE.
Since the Clowns have returned in '99 they've continually started over about every three years with a coaching and front office purge that would make a supermodel blush. Under Lerner, it's gotten progressively worse. It looks like the Browns will possibly start over again next season with deposed GM George Kokinnis and embattled HC Eric Mangini on the hot seat only 10 months after being hired.
Enter Mike Holmgren. Unless it's an
INSANE amount of cash there is nothing appealing about the Browns job. He has a legit Super Bowl pedigree making several trips to the big game as both an offensive coordinator and head coach and being triumphant in his fair share of them. If he returns to the Browns and succeeds, it's nothing new as he took over and remade dreadful franchises in Green Bay and Seattle. If he fails, he'll be a lot richer but his legacy will be forever tarnished when he is fired by a knee jerk Browns brass that listens more to the fan base than the voice of reason.
For these reasons it makes a whole lot more sense that he would look at the Cowboys this offseason if Wade Philips were vanquished.
