Per Wade - Man to Man Defense Was A Problem

Phillips made a valid point when he said that quite often the Giants were keeping 7 in to block and only sending three out into the pattern. One would think that the pass defense could cover 3 guys.

In order for zone defense to work, our Defensive line has to produce pressure and sacks....and yah.....neither of that the last 2 weeks...so we truly are screwed this year.

yep, I saw alot of 5 DBs for Dallas, 3 WRs for New York on the screen

and still people were running free like gazelles in the African Sahara

So we will not generate a pass rush at all this year?

translation= our defense sucks.

If we cant play man and we cant play zone, what the hell else is there???

Why is Wade still here guys, seriously???

After 2 weeks, we have 0 turnovers, 0 sacks, rank 30th in the league ahead of only Tampa and Houston, and now our defensive guru says we cant play man coverage.

And you guys think Romo is the problem???

Exactly...at the least make him pull down some throws and perhaps give the rush time to get there, but it never happened.

One reason is because the safeties are invisible vs the pass. They never arrive on time for help, nor are they reading the QB and jumping any routes.

Actually they are pretty much invisible vs the run too.

Last night, yeah he was the main problem. His turnovers totally kept them in the game. They cut down on our TOP. Decreased the number of plays we had. Gave them points.

But if the NYG are keeping 7 guys in to block, you aren't going to get pressure.

How many sacks did the G-men have? Does that mean they can't rush the passer either. These two defenses totaled more than a 100 sacks last year and neither one had a sack last night.

You're going to have games were the offensive coordinator of the other team is going to put an emphasis on protection-- just like last night. The problem was the inability of the Cowboy corners to play man-to-man, WHICH also affects the pass rush. Hey, if someone's wide open within a couple seconds of leaving the line of scrimmage then how are you going to apply pressure to stop that?

I remember a quote from another team's defensive coordinator this preseason when he was asked about man-to-man coverage, he stated we dont play a lot of man because you get as many turn overs when your back is always to the quarterback. Kind of made me wonder given our lack of INTs the last few seasons.

Boss was keeping Ware busy all night and to think we had numbers and still couldn't cover

Romo and the pass defense were the problems.

I'm thinking that Romo is easier to fix. He's just one guy. On the pass defense all 3 corners have had issues when playing man-to-man the last two weeks.

man I hope note but I'm just saying by what I've seen these last 2 weeks....oh boy if Wade doesn't get creative we truly are done, done, done, done.....and...because as you saw last nite our secondary is suspect...every team on our schedule will dissect that game last nite with precision and focus on the play of our defensive backs....every play.:banghead:

There's probably something to that but this defense played a lot of zone the first two seasons of Wade tenure and there still weren't a lot of picks. Remember Reeves two years ago and Henry last year playing all that soft zone and getting killed underneath.

And as much as I like Newman, he does not have good ball awareness skills.

We were 6th in the league in picks in 2007 -- not bad at all.

It's more of getting better coverage from the DB's. That will help the pass rush immensely.

You can't get that creative or you'll leave large gaps for the opposing offense to exploit-- remember the long runs Tampa had? That's what happens when you get creative and it doesn't work.

Getting creative means you're making players have to think more-- and is that a good option for this squad? Do you want guys like Brady James and Ken Hamlin to have to use their brains more?

We are going to get carved up like a freaking Thanksgiving turkey if we cant start generating any pass rush.

from top 10 defense to this-unbelievable.the best way to shield our shaky defense is to run the ball, like 35-40 times a game.

You have to be able to cover first.

If teams max protect you aren't going to get pressure.

Neither man nor zone is going to work until our pass rush wakes up, it doesn't matter who we put back there at DB if the QB has all day to throw
