He says if Ellis cannot go then Spencer will still start but Carpenter will be the third OLB in the rotation.

Seems odd for a guy that is weak at the point of attack and the cannot rush.

Seriously though Carpenter is getting snaps at DE, ILB, and now OLB. Maybe the Vrabel comparisons werent unfounded.

no he didnt. he haid he moved Carp inside and they just started getting him snaps at OLB today.
He said that if he didn't think Greg would be ready for week 1, he'd move him outside behind Spencer.

You laugh, but Oliver Hoyte is playing FB.

He has said that all along and Carp has practice some in that position.

Isn't it Vrabel that also gets playing time at tight end for the Pats?

Really because i had seen it nowhere. i was under the impression that he was moved back inside becasue that is what Wade actually said. He had not been getting any snaps at OLB until today. The question was actually phrased have you consiedred if Ellis cannot go......

This also makes your argument with Stautner completely and utterly asinine but that is neither here nor there.

Regardless he is now practicing at OLB which has implications about there outlook on Ellis' recover.

Lol. While I agree that argument was asinine, this development doesn't make it any more so. Carpenter didn't see any time at outside linebacker last week. He was playing nickel DE.

What this makes more asinine is that Wade supposedly said that Carpenter couldn't rush the passer...one of the more important traits of a 3-4 OLB. Something isn't adding up.

If he is starting to get snaps at OLB doesnt it stand to reason that hell play some at it this coming weekend especially if Ellis isnt ready to go?

Yes, Vrabel plays a lot of TE in goal line situations.

I don't think Carp is strong enough or adept inside. Seems much more orientated to edge rushing ala late last year.

Good move kicking him out. Burnett beat him out inside anyway for depth and rotation.

vrabel plays every position well. carpenter is just a backup who doesn't do anything well. we're just trying to figure out what his strengths are.

i was comparing him to vrabel because they will be playing all the LB positions and not their relative skill sets. i guess its fun for you to take a shot at him but when he has actually been on the field he has played well.

When they started him against Atlanta and had him spy Vick he did very well and sincve then his all around play continued to improve. This preseason if you would actually pay attention you would see he is still doing well.

Am I claiming that he is all pro? of course not but his play is meriting him play time and i imagine your going to see him inserted in several different positions during the season so he can get on the field.

Remember Vrabel started out with Pittsburgh and it took him a few years to figure it all out.

Yeah? Well nobody does that anymore. If you're not in Hawaii by your second year, guess what....you're a bust. /sarcasm.

No, he stated in the past that if Ellis wasn't ready to go, then at that point (i.e., the point at which he knew Ellis wasn't ready to go) he'd move Carpenter back outside. Of course he hasn't been getting snaps at OLB up until this point.

The remarkable thing about this statement is that it tells us that Ellis will not be ready by Week 1 (actually we already knew kinda knew that).

How long did it take Adalius Thomas to break into the starting lineup? Four? Five years?

Of course, these guys weren't 1st rounders. But that isn't a fault of Carpenter's, but rather of Parcells/Ireland/Jerry.
