The original "Freedom of Speech". One of the four "Freedoms" that Norman Rockwell did based on FDR's state of the Union Speech. The 4 "Freedoms" eventually toured around the country and helped raise millions in war bonds. Norman Rockwell is my favorite artist, truly one of a kind.

BTW, as with many of Rockwells paintings, this was based on an actual town hall meeting he attended where he lived and a man stood up to voice his unpopular opinion. Although some of the people in the crowd were based on actual people he knew, you can see the face of the man standing has a strong likeness to Abraham Lincoln which is also in another painting or two of his IIRC.

Oh my gosh, this is breathtaking!

We have a clock with a Norman Rockwell image on it. My husband has it hanging right above the computer, where he can see it easily. He bought it a few years back, he loves NR. It's an image of a man at a 1950s cafe behind the counter, and a police man and little boy seated, talking to each other. There is a sign overhead that reads, "Special Today". :)

I know exactly which one you're talking about, I believe it's called "The Runaway". Something I learned at the museum was that he actually did two versions of that painting. In the original, the background was more urban but he wanted to convey a more suburban setting since he thought a "runaway" would more likely to be inmor head for suburbia. The second painting, probably the one your and your husband have is the more popular version, the suburban setting. You may be able to look it up online and see the differences.

His museum is located in Stockbridge, MA which is where his studio was and where he lived for a good portion of his life. Many of the people he uses were actual residents and setting in and around Stockbridge. Highly highly highly recommended if you ever get the chance.

I may have misinformed you, I could have sworn there were actually two different paintings but maybe he just altered the first one. Anyways, here's a little more info I just found

That's the one! Thank you for the info and link. Interesting to hear from those in the actual photo he painted from. I also learned that he had some serious photography skills! :)
