Pettine - I think I can help a lot

I do not get the hype with Pettine.
I think it's more hope. We're desperate for anything and his "specialty" seems to be simulating pressure. He likes the Double-A pressures where you bring the linebackers up into the gaps and the OL has to sort out who's coming. Don't know how much of that we'll see since it's still Parker's defense, but we've got to get some quick pressure on the ball.

we can hardly get much worse so the likelihood is that any change will be for the better

His DC career is pretty good.

Obviously going to take someone’s job after the season. Sorry Shotty.

CP gone for sure. He needs his hand held

I just find it weird that coaches that have spent most of their life around the game & so many people defer to as "experts" in all matters, can't figure out what the other teams are doing and thus a clue how to defend it.

Are other teams running anything exotic, ground breaking, against us?

Pettine? His career is built off having the No. 1 defense with the Jets his first year as defensive coordinator. But it wasn't his defense, it was Rex Ryan's. He's been middle of the pack anywhere else he's been as a coordinator. He left the Jets in 2013 after Ryan's defense had been 20th in scoring Pettine's final two years. His only year in Buffalo, his defense was 10th in yards and 20th in points. With the Packers, his defenses were 15th and 17th and widely criticized for playoff performances before he was not brought back for a third season.

It just shows how dumb they must be to work 70 hours a week at a job that I could do in 35.

I want to tell these guys that have been in the league thirty years that they should work smarter, not harder.

I mean, it’s not rocket science.

if of course we are getting the real story.

New Cowboys senior defensive assistant Mike Pettine on how he can help Christian Parker as a first-time DC: “I think I can help a lot. It’s funny, I have a big, about 4-inch thick book of what not to do, and a very thin one of what to do.

“I think that’s key, is learning from others’ mistakes. As much as you think you’re prepared for it, you’re really not until you get into it. And I think that’s where I’ll be able to help.”

The fact that CP asked Pettine for help indicates that he has confidence in Pettine to help him. Jerry isn't the one who insisted upon hiring Pettine. That's what some see as the case here. As much as I dislike Jerry, I doubt it was his intention to get rid of CP but rather, trying to get Pettine to help him.
CP requested Pettine's presence from the start, which means his hire was totally wanted by CP.

I'll wait and see if he helps this team improve. The sad thing is, this defense is so bad that it could improve a lot and still be a bad defense. This Pettine guy might help them tremendously, and the result would be going from cellar-dwelling atrociously awful to just pretty bad. I would love to be wrong. If this D went from the bottom of the basement to being top ten, I would be surprised, but also very happy. I just don't see that happening. They might just improve from being #32 to #25 or something similar.
