If only Dak didn't get hurt. His stats would be through the roof. Not only breaking Peyton's most passing yards in a season, but Dallas would be in first place as if the new coaching staff didn't even exist.

Dalton has been a huge disappointment. His performance will show other teams he's not worth the money as a backup!

You know I came across this when I was trying to get a gauge at what other teams linebackers are doing.......there just doesn't seem to be much good linebacker play around the league. People are overly critical of Jaylon based on what I guess Luke Kuechly was.....

Look at the grades of some of these guys drafted.......

Patrick Queen has a 28 PFF rating....I don't even know how you do that. I thought if you just suit up you get at least 50.....I've never seen someone with that low of a grade at linebacker before.
Devin Bush - 59.7
Roquan Smith - 63.7
Tremaine Edmunds - 46.2
Rashaan Evans - 54.9
Jarrad Davis - 76.7

This is a sad list and scary. No one mentions this when they talk about Jaylon or talk about getting a linebacker....there isn't good linebacker play in this league. If you can find one with a 80 PFF rating or higher you found a unicorn.

+1.....the hate for Jaylon is pretty bad. You can copy and paste the same attacks he gets every week even if the entire plays like trash.

Looking at this data critically and without any concern for the guys I am cutting....

QB:
I'm set with Dak. Top 10 guy even behind a tragically bad OL? Easy call.
I'd extend Gilbert now. Dalton is rated 25th which may be about where he actually falls. He can go get a stop gap starters job somewhere for 7-10M.
DiNucci is a fine practice squad QB.

RB:
Zeke is gonna return because it's cheaper to keep him. But RB tend to go one direction and his decline hasn't been pretty. He need sot talking to Emmitt Smith about how to proiong his career. When they 100B rights deal kicks in, he is getting released.
TP: He has shown flashes of elite speed and desire. But he's lacking on about 75% of all touches. Vision and feel just not quite there yet.
I need a 3rd back. Fresh backs are harder to defend and less predictable.

WR:
Amari is legit.
CeeDee was an ace selection
Gallup will re-emerge as a top 10 deep threat when Dak returns.
Depth is pretty grand here.

TE:
Team strength here.
Jarwin is a good receiving TE and Schultz has shown a very solid overall level of play.
Bell won a SB as a 3rd TE...

OL:
Tyron is breaking down and my heart but he's gotten nearly a full year of rest now. I just can't cut him and let him go make All Pro for someone else.
CWill has grade out well and he has added strength. He's a keeper.
Biadasz looks like the future here. Cheap and all upside.
Martin is elite at every position.
McGovern is a starter quality OG. I'm overly happy if he's my 3rd OG.
La'el Collins is a Pro bowl caliber guy is he's healthy. Can he play LT?
Steele and Knight are fighting for roster spots next year.
Cam Erving is a solid swing OT in talent but can we count on him? I mean I need my swing to play through all but death as he's my last line of defense.

Defense:
whewwwwww

DL:
DLaw is elite. I can't build a defense that doesn't cater to him.
I need alllllll the DTs. Hill and Gallimore will be back and cheap so they can be rotation guys.
Gregory is very solid.
Aldon has to take a team friendly deal.

LB:
Jaylon is limited but he's a keeper.
LVE is going t get to play out his rookie deal at least but I don;t know if his body can handle the league. --this dude being more brittle than Jaylon or Myles Jack is why I have trust issues.
Sean Lee will make a fine coach.
I need a 3rd legit LB. Preferably one that can start as a rookie. But that's a pick 50-100 value not top 10.

CB:
Diggs is fine but to me he is CB2. Gives up some plays but makes some as well.
I need a CB1. I need an R1 CB. Give me Surtain or Farley and I love my teams physicality at CB then.
AB is signed and is a good CB3. He is ideal in slot but can move outside to help when needed.
JLew is tough as nails but his coverage is pretty meh. I mean he may be cheap to resign and of so great. But I can't spend any real cap cash here.

What even are safeties?
Donovan Wilson looks like a solid option here but I'm not sure he is a long-term starter.
XWoods has slammed on his brakes on the highway. He was a solid coverage guy who came up and tackled. Now he takes bad angles and blows coverages....
No need to mention the other guys as they are only back to play special teams or provide scout team work as a practice squadder.

Good post.....So for the offseason, we're screaming CB, S, DT for sure. Maybe Lbers and OL? Remember McCoy is back at DT. Not sure what we can expect and for S, I honestly see them targeting a mid-level free agent with strong leadership. A guy with a couple of good years left that lead what will likely be a young secondary unit.....Viking's Harrison Smith?

I don't place much credence in PFF grades, but geez, I can't read that ranking without feeling disheartened.

What worries me even more is JJ looking at the grades and seeing a team with an upward trajectory.

I told yal all those young linebackers look trash while yall want to hype up Parsons being the pick. All the top 10 linebackers past 5 years have worse grades than Jaylon. Run amd hit linebacker doesnt mean anything if you dont know where the ball is
I don’t know who the 35 LB’s ahead of jaylon is myself
Maybe someone could share

I think you have to take all of these with a grain of salt, and as someone once said on here they have to "pass the eye test". Case and point - D. Poe- 56.8 (85th), this guy was not good on the field for us, and definitely not better than Gallimore- 51.6 (99th); I'd also say that by the eye test J Lew- 49.2 (105th) is light years ahead of both AB- 47.8 (111th) and Worley- 47.9 (110th)

McCoy is a FA because they voided his deal due to an injury clause. Not sure if they'll resign him or not but perhaps if he's cheap.

CB, S, DT have to be the top 3 priorities and you probably have to address all 3 BEFORE the draft in some sense.
Maybe that just means resigning guys so you have a warm body but you can't enter the draft with the guys currently on the roster for 2021 at those positions.

Offball LB, I think you have have 1 spot here. You'd like it to be a good player more akin to a young Sean Lee than this version. When Jaylon is LB2 and can rest some snaps he's actually pretty good. LVE needs to stay on the field but he has some great flashes. But you really need to elevate that group when Jaylon needs to play 98% of all defensive snaps and LVE misses half a season.

OL: It's tough here because you do have some depth and a lot depends on what the medicals say on Tyron and La'el.
If both guys are expected back 100% healthy by mid off-season I might not touch OL at all... unless a great value fell at OT. \
I really like my young interior OL.

FA: This is one is so hard because it matters so much happens with Dak. You'd like the two sides to agree to an extension day 1 that allows about 25M towards free agency.
Dallas could take that money then go get like 5 vets and re-make this defense in the DC's vision.
I'd love a solid vet DT but FA isn't chock full of them. So perhaps Dallas re-signs Gerald McCoy to same deal as last year. 2 years, 7M with injury guarantee.
Target Davlin Tomlinson. Push the Giants to pay him or lose him. I'd go 5 years 55M here. But my guess is no dice.
IF I splurge I do so at DT because the draft offers limited hope. So few DTs that they'll likely be overdrafted by a lot.
Safety: So tough here because XWoods is basically what Dallas can hope for here. He's about a 5-6M a year guy and he is a low level starter. Ughh. I think they bring him back.
But I'd like Justin Simmons or Marcus Maye. I just can't see Dallas reaching deep down in the cushions for 10M+ AAV at safety.
you can get a safety in round 2 or 3 of this draft imho.
CB: I think Dallas resigns 1 CB. Chido or JLew. Chido is better but JLew should be cheaper. If Dallas is locked in on CB high in draft I'd bet JLew on a 4m AAV type deal.

Mock FA:
G McCoy DT
AWoods DT
XWoods S
JLew slot CB

Resigning your own doesn't cost you comp picks. Dallas has to decide if they care about that for this next off-season or not. They usually do so I factored it in BUT I'd be voting to not care and especially if I got Dak done early.

Mock Draft: PFN board + com picks from OTC
R1: trade down w NE Pats 16+47 for 5 and 72
Mid R1 CB Caleb Farley (assuming Surtain is off board)
R2 S Jevon Holland
R2 LB Nick Bolton
R3 OT Teven Jenkins
R4 DT Jordan Davis
R4 RB Kylin Hill MissSt
R5 DT Dante Stills
R6 Edge Thomas Booker
R7 LB Jack Sanborn
R7 QB Carson Strong Nevada

*I'm guessing both, Tyron and Collins will be ready to go for OTA's
* Maybe I'm too optimistic but I see Dak's deal getting fairly quickly after the season for the very reason you mention, they need that money.
