and with the Niners, McCafe can be and is being used as an All Purpose back - he doesn't have to be burden down as a bell cow pounder and
having to carry the team load.

He is being used on stretch run plays on cut backs and off tackle edge,..not to mentioned moved around and lined up in a various of formations and sets.
What LB is gonna be able to match up with him, Speedy, elusive and a natural receiver outta the backfield.

- Several here keep talking of " Carries" with Pollard. - But it should be more about ' Touches" ....

- And to add, teams have to be pre-occupied with the likes of Beebo, as best a receiver and runner - and then there is TE George Kittle we have to worry about as well.

- And that's just player personnel - with the way Shanahan imploys so much misdirection and personnel -scheming, including getting his RBs into openings.. i could only
imagine if Tony Pollard was in THAT offense under that offensive coach.

49ers have a better defense.

I see Parsons playing more LB this week than Monday night. The team MUST contain the run to have a chance at winning.

Agreed , we need to stop the run to have any chance . Hankins and LVE have to play a great game . We need Micah to be in Purdy's face all day

Pollard is probably just as good maybe even better running the ball as McCaffrey but when it comes to route running and respective receiving threat they are a world apart. McCaffrey is like Pollard and Beasley rolled into one player.

I think I added Pollards same amount of games played and got:

Tony Pollard
176 touches
1,148 total yards
10 TD

Pollard actually averages more per catch.

Absolute necessity. Only rush parsons on 3rd and long. Put parsons at lb with lve…stick Hankins in the middle. Contain everything.

Make purdy throw….. if he beats you so be it.

Unfortunately Pollard is not as great a player as McCaff, .. for one thing, Pollard under Kellen Moore has never been developed nor exploited the
way McCaff is and has been.

- Christian is out right deadly in the pass game and Shanahan definitely knows how to scheme RBs in the pass game ..
That's just an area that is simply not Kellen's forte.

- Shanahan is a sheer master of moving personnel around in both the run game (ala Deebo) ..and pass game (ala McCaffrey)

- Pollard was used in a muiltude of roles at Memphis, but we've very rarely seen any creativity with Pollard in the pass game.
Two of those rarities that come to is our past Vikes game where Pollard just jet right past a LB on a wheel route for a downfield TD homerun .

- The other is the outta of the slot formation vs Detroit Lions some years ago, for a wide open homerun TD.

- If Kellen was anything adept at scheming Pollard even in quick middle screens, and misdirection flairs - Pollard would be that much more utterly
scary dangerous to opposing defenses.
I can give you 18 million reason$ what's holding this team back from making those play calls ha ha ha

I don’t think there’s much debate here. I know Pollard got that one 68 yard TD that no doubt gives him pretty favorable yards per catch stats but that doesn’t change much for me, you only need to watch them for 5 minutes to see the difference.

One? Pollard had two over 40+ this season.

It is all about gap discipline and contain. You cannot chase and let the play come to you. Luckily, the coaches have last year's game tape to throw in and demonstrate the consequences of failure. If they come locked in we can really smother their attack.

Let's end Purdy's Cinderella story.
