How about that, boys! Here's to Mo, Byron, Brown, Church, Carr and the boys and their continued success!

4. Dallas Cowboys (30)
Current nickel package: CB Brandon Carr, CB Morris Claiborne, SCB Anthony Brown, S Byron P. Jones, S Barry Church

Dallas owned one of the worst secondaries in the league last season, but through six weeks, they have turned it around with largely the same cast. Byron Jones was the only player to earn an above-average grade in coverage last year; now, Jones has continued to play well, while Barry Church and Morris Claiborne currently own career-highs in terms of coverage grades, and Brandon Carr is right around his best grade since joining the Cowboys. It’s been a remarkable turnaround thus far, but we’ll see if Dallas can sustain this level of play for the rest of the season.

Mo and Byron are the biggest reasons for this, as both anchor their respective units.

If, big if, but if we get a healthy OScan back, we might climb higher than that number four position.

We are an immediate top 5 D with one 10-15 sack DE added to our line and a top MLB. We need to attack both in free agency/draft and retain Mo (~8m aav) and Carr (~4-5m aav).

We have an elite offense, and are now on the cusp of an elite defense. It's there boys, just missing a couple pieces.

And now we have David Irving earning defensive player of the week honors in just 19 snaps, Terrell McClain making plays, and Demarcus Lawrence rounding into form.

I'm telling you, NFC Championship game should be the minimum.

I know it's not popular to say in these parts, Scipio, but if (big if) we get Gregory back in week 15, and he flashes similar to the way Tank did in '14 when he came back, we could have a true defense here. The biggest thing is that Randy continues to train and EAT while he is away from the team.

If they even had a best of 3 playoff format sure but with single game elimination NFL playoffs are too erratic to project that long.

I agree. It's really about the aggregate. Charles Barkley talks about the difference between NBA and NFL playoffs all the time. Thankfully, this team is positioned well to continue making the post season.

Are the Giants a little higher than I thought they should be.

And how did we get ahead of Seattle.

A lot of things have quietly happened with the secondary that has them playing really well.

  1. The switch: Carr was flipped back over to the right side of the field which is where he excelled at KC and what got him the big contract with Dallas in the first place.
  2. Mo’ is finally healthy and comfortable.
  3. Safeties coach Greg Jackson has really gotten the safeties to see the field better. Barry Church is playing instinctively, Wilcox is improved and Jones is living up to his first round billing.
  4. Speaking of Jones, allowing him to play one spot has really helped his development. This kid always had the athleticism, intelligence, & maturity to play—I’m just glad it’s all coming together.
  5. Anthony Freaking Brown. I honestly would rather see Scandrick on the bench now because of this kid. Luckily this helps solve our CB FA needs next year.
Are they 4th best in the league? Too early to say. But they certainly are better than average which is probably the best we've had since '09.

So, 4 of our wins are against the numbers 21, 26, 28 and 29th ranked secondaries? Food for thought.
