Youngins on the outside, Norman was their life and energy before he left (for the DB unit).

It's hard to imagine that Norman is singlehandedly responsible for their defensive downfall, but it's known that he was a leader of sorts on that D last season, Bat.

Norman is a stud. They lost a top 5-7 CB

Also, love "schmeckle" used in your post :D

You're alright Trouty!!

And I know Norman is a talent but can't believe the loss of one defensive player, even one as talented as Norman, would have cost the team so many losses. Even offense doesn't look the same as last year when the Panthers were trying for an undefeated season. There has to be something else wrong with team.

Most definitely, Bat. It's much more than Norman. He's only a cog in the part that is Carolina's downfall.

Cam has regressed, they haven't been able to incorporate Benjamin, and they were too cocky heading into the season.

I hate to say it, but it's looking like Cam is a flash-type player. Meaning extreme highs and lows. I was rooting for him, but he's proving his neysayers right, Bat.

His D bought into him, and now they're deflated. Kind of the opposite of our situation. Defenses buy into the team, and play accordingly (completely anecdotal).

Norman was a huge loss for them, and now they're feeling it. But Cam's regression is first and foremost the reason why the whole team is failing. Including the D, that bought into him.

Wentz has no help :(

Wentz has an incredible defense. It's weird seeing their secondary ranked so low, but that front seven is no joke, Guru.

It will be glorious when we smash these ****s in the mouth next week.

I thought about that as I made the post, Ro. Who would he replace, now? I believe the only thing holding us back from breaking the top 3 is an exterior rush attack.

I say Jerry should get an elite rush-man in here even if he has to significantly overpay. I'd offer even up to 1, a 2 and a 3 (over two drafts). But I don't want some old guy on the downside.

Forcing the ball to Benjamin doesn't help either. And Cam is not 100% healthy either which he was last season. But not sad about it tho, Cowboys only have to worry about Vikes, Falcs and Seahags. Thats enough.

I'd rather just pay a load in free agency for whomever is available @bkight13

Or draft hardcore DE, Ro.

But yeah man, we are so damn close

Hardy is now a wrestler or extreme fighter or some-such. The outlook for him isn't good...sounds like he's got psychiatric issues that he won't address.

The leadership in the locker room now is so much better and the team seems more united.

I don't know how many times Jerry has to be shown those kinds of players don't work out. He's sure seen it fail again and again.

I suspect all the players and coaches are enjoying themselves a lot more...and it shows on the field.
I completely agree. We went into this season with less talent on the defensive side but also cancer free. And the defense is playing well above expectations. If Dez's no show at rehab or late to meetings is the worst player issue we have then we have a strong character locker room with good leaders. I felt the Dez being late story was only a story cuz it's Dallas and Dez and the media blows it up. I'm sure every team has a player or two that is late to meetings. So without the Dez late story the media blew up there hasn't been any negative player activity on this team. No players hitting clip boards out of coaches hands, no players stealing underwear. None of that nonsense and it shows on the field. The team likes playing for the guy next to him.

I love how Mo gets an interception and he's mobbed by his teammates congratulating him. I love how the team gets excited when Mo makes a play. It shows that they understand he had some rough years and are happy he's succeeding. I love how Dez goes to every game and is on the side lines pumping his fists when Twill makes a play. I love how Romo is helping Dak. All of that stuff is awesome cuz they're a team now. As recently as last year they didn't seem like a team but a bunch of guys with the same shirts on.

So, 4 of our wins are against the numbers 21, 26, 28 and 29th ranked secondaries? Food for thought.
Damn you Beavis:D Zeke and PA should take care of that problem. This is when the DL needs to show up w/a consistent pass rush. Irving/McClain need to be made more of a focus going forward though Collins is playing well against the run. Our secondary was there to give Rodgers fits this go round. Was refreshing to see the secondary step up like that even without Mo for the second half; Rodgers looked like he wanted to go home early. Brown didn't miss a beat and looks like he belongs already as rook. Lacy needs to drop 20 lbs or so to become regularly effective again.

I was being sarcastic. That is what all Cowboy fans that are Wentz lovers will say.

So 2 of our secondary guys are first round draft picks who are paying off (Claiborne, Jones), 1 is a high priced free agent (Carr), 1 is a 6th round rookie (Brown) and one is an undrafted free agent (Church). And Scandrick, when he gets back out there, is a 5th round pick.

Passer rating differential has the highest correlation to winning ball games.

Having a good secondary is a helluva good way to go about doing that.

How about that, boys! Here's to Mo, Byron, Brown, Church, Carr and the boys and their continued success!

4. Dallas Cowboys (30)
Current nickel package: CB Brandon Carr, CB Morris Claiborne, SCB Anthony Brown, S Byron P. Jones, S Barry Church

Dallas owned one of the worst secondaries in the league last season, but through six weeks, they have turned it around with largely the same cast. Byron Jones was the only player to earn an above-average grade in coverage last year; now, Jones has continued to play well, while Barry Church and Morris Claiborne currently own career-highs in terms of coverage grades, and Brandon Carr is right around his best grade since joining the Cowboys. It’s been a remarkable turnaround thus far, but we’ll see if Dallas can sustain this level of play for the rest of the season.
Coaching matters.

out of all of the improvements this year the most surprising to me is the secondary. Pleasant surprise.
