I

ts really not that difficult. He has the potential to be an all pro guard. He’s a barely above average OT at best!
You don't know that. He showed a lot of promise at LT. Now that he has some playing time behind him, let him play the position. It's easier to find a guard than it is to find a solid LT.

That is a big if though. He might just be a mediocre T, at best, at which you were better off having the all pro G.
You never know that until you give him a shot at LT.
Dallas can draft very good OGs any draft they desire.
They have won too many games to draft the top 2-3 LT per draft other than a small handful of times over the last 12 years.
Even when they drafted Tyron he was a RT at USC or he would have never fallen past 5.

The other 2 times since they drafted that high they took Micah and Zeke.

The job is not to max out the player, it is to max out the Line.

13 penalties, 6 sacks playing LT. Most came backend of the season as they helped him less. Those numbers are both borderline atrocious. The 2 tackles ahead of him each gave up 6 sacks and both received criticism as being potential bust. He wasn’t the complete shitshow that people expected… doesn’t mean he was good!

The Eagles took a rugby player, Jordan Mailata, that never played American football and gave him the time to develop. NFL scouts evaluated Mailata as a 5.5 prospect grade, which equates to a practice squad player with a chance to make the bottom-end of the official NFL roster. He spent the first two years on the practice squad and some time injured before getting a start. You know what he is today? He is the only tackle in the entire NFL that graded out at 83 or higher for the 2023 season as a pass blocker and run blocker.

Now, if you want to argue that the only offensive line coach he has had in his life is Jeff Stoutland, and that he learned from the best right from the beginning, okay. But this guy never played football until he was 20. The Eagles stuck with him and coached him to play the game. The guy is an outright stud now and still learning.

The Eagles showed what can happen when you invest properly in a player that has promise. If they can do that with a guy like Mailata, maybe, just maybe, we can invest in a promising kid like Tyler who actually has played the game all his life.

Oh, you know who else the Eagles invested in because they believed he might eventually be good? Some 6th round pick named Jason Kelce.

Stop throwing our players under the bus so quick.

Mailata and and Smith are two different players. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
Didn’t throw anyone under the bus. Smith’s skillset projects to be an all pro guard. Do you want an all pro guard or an average LT. It’s really that simple!

How do you know that Tyler Smith will only be an average LT if you never give him a chance to show otherwise? You're right, Mailata and Smith are two different players. One NEVER played the game and is now one of the best at his position because his team was patient and gave him a chance. Under your way of thinking, Mailata, who was projected to be a practice squad player by almost all scouts, wouldn't even be in the league. I will repeat: you don't know how good Tyler Smith can be at LT if not given a full year to play the position.

speaking of Oline. I want the kid from Oregon at center . That helps the entire line. We can slide guys over into guard and it creates depth. Tyler Biadazz then can be a guard and back up center. Our oline is a big issue until we address Center and what we do with TYRON.

Explain to me why I am wrong.
Skillset projects to guard! It was obvious during his rookie season he struggled with his footwork and lateral quickness on an island.
Same theory as with Zack Marit. Do you want and average tackle or an all pro guard!

Trent Williams and Lane Johnson had to work on their footwork their rookie seasons. I guess you would have not given them a chance to get better and put them at guard. I'm not saying he will be a consistent All-Pro level tackle, but I'm saying he deserves a chance. You don't even want him to have that chance. Damn, our rivals took a guy with zero footwork that never played and he's Pro Bowl level now, and you don't even want to give our own player a chance. Do you think our O-line coach sucks and can't make our players better? (Maybe)

FWIW, I could see a scenario where La'el Colins becomes your LG and Tyler becomes the LT.
Dallas drafts an OC and the new line would look like:
LT: Tyler
LG: La'el
OC: R1/R2 rookie
RG: Zack
RT: Steele
Depth: Hoffman, Asim, Bass

The biggest benefit of said line would be cost.

Thats like a company who refuses promotions because you are too perfect for the role you are in.
I.E. utter nonsense.
The top paid LT makes 25M AAV, the top paid OG makes 20M.
Math is pretty easy there and NFL regards OG as 80% as valuable.
As such is Tyler is 80% as good at LT he is a net benefit to the Cowboys because he would alleviate the need to find the 2nd or 3rd hardest position to fill in the NFL.

All that being said, if you have other LTs who are as good then sure keep him at OG.
But reality doesn't shift for nonsense philosophy.
Dallas drafts 24th. 5 or 6 OT are mocked to come off the board by then.
Yet Dallas is often mocked there to JPJ the Oregon center as the top interior lineman off the board.
And it is not a 1 year occurence. Dallas has drafted all-pro level OG in the late teens to mid 20s multiple times going back to finding arguably the greatest LG of all-time in R2.

Lol, you keep desperately holding onto one player like it’s the norm.
Lane Johnson was immediately moved to RT and have left him there because they recognized he didn’t have the lateral quickness to play LT at an all pro level. Same as Tyler!
