Would’ve been nice to have gotten Wagner last off-season

Just can't see the Joneses doing it. They have brought in some outside veterans this year, but they've still been on the cheap side either because they are on the downside of their career or were coming off injury. I think re-signing LVE fits more within their modus operandi (cheaper and homegrown).
I believe they need a primo 1T and ML to go to the next level on D. Hopefully this season has proved this to the FO

I'm in disagreement with those that insist we need to keep LVE.

- He's not a pro bowler. He's not irreplaceable. he's not special. He's not a core player
At best, he's a decent, serviceable piece to which we've had many of those that come and go.

- Some here was saying the same thing with needing to keep Anthony Hitchens,
Ditto with Barry Church .. and Byron Jones.

- LVE's attention and value here went up upon his injury return, because the lack of quality depth at LB became so painfully obvious and exposed.
Barr is slow and ongoing declining, he's a JAG.

- Clark is inexperienced and looks like he has hit that typical rookie wall.
As the season wears on, we're seeing less and less encouraging plus plays from him.

- If you can get him cheap to return ..until you can get much better, he can be a band-aid until more promising superior arrivals come on the scene
Frankly i wouldn't mind doing another 1 year rental deal but i'm not for committing a long term deal to just a serviceable LB.
The defense definitely missed Hitchens when he left.

A lot of people are acting like NFL contracts are guaranteed in this thread. LVE can be (rather easily) signed to a 3/4 year deal with minimal risk. Look at the Booby Wagner deal to the Rams last year- 5 years 50 million…but only 20 million was guaranteed.

Just a guess, but something like 3/24 with 12 million guaranteed sounds like a very reasonable risk to take to keep our very solid starting MLB. If he gets hurt/is ineffective you’re only eating 4 mil after the 1st year
Thats actually around what I think another team will offer. 3 years 22-26 million range.

He's 100% going to the highest bidder no questions asked. He's played in 70 games with 64 starts has only made 14 million which is low for someone that's been starting that long.

Remember, this is a good ole boy small town kid...I am not sure money motivation is the biggest thing on his plate.

Some good ones but could also be expensive. Even looking at this list, I still rather resign LVE

I guess we can at least window shop at Nordstom's .....when we know we will wind up sifting through the trash bins in the alley behind La Bola clothes by the pound store.

...personally, I feel DQ will be back. He's built something good on defense.

I actually see him, inking in 2-3 yr deal. Then perhaps, move on.

He talked about being so comfortable here last year and how he just felt like it was the right fit. That doesn't mean that he won't feel differently this year.

I kind of think that the defense really faltered from about the midpoint towards the end of the season. Teams were finding ways to beat the D. Now, he did put together a great game plan against the Bucs so it is possible that he was just trying to experiment some once he knew we were definitely playoff bound. For example, it seems that the second half of the year that he really didn't move Parsons around to keep defenses guessing. They were just putting him at DE and asking him to beat everyone one on one. Suddenly against the Bucs, they were moving him around, having him pressure up the gut which is Brady's biggest weakness. It's like he kind of kept that under wraps. Same with Mukuamu playing a lot more as the nickle back. Some of that was out of necessity, but it was the most effective we have seen the pass defense in a while....and that was against some very good receivers.

If his goal is to become a head coach again, he has to strike while the iron is hot so to speak. I think if the defense can put up another great performance against a strong offense, he will have his choice of several locations. I hate to see him go, but at the moment I think there are a ton of DC's out there that could come in and do a really great job with this defense. I don't think we are handcuffed by Quinn.

Dump LVE (gluestick) and sign competent run stuffing LBrs without neck injuries. We are not getting by the next few rounds with this garbage. Mark my words. Milano would be great.
Lol, he is back.

Exactly. At the start of the season, we looked at him as a bonus if he could stay healthy. He didn't, although he's been healthier overall and has played better for us this season. Rewarding "better" with too much money and for too long is a total Jerry move.

Funny how the mark my words comments have gotten weaker and weaker....won't beat better teams....wont make the playoffs.....will be one and done....now it's they wont get through the next few rounds.

Also interesting you're ideal solution would be to replace LVE with a guy who has a similar scouting report as a faster backer who is better in coverage. Also Milano is both under contract with another team and also plays a different position?
One and done not too far….inners, best team in NFC…..we shall see…..Milano is far better than LVE. Watch the tape.

I would try to sign him to a reasonable 2 year deal. Anything longer to me is too risky due to his injured past.

Eh if the Cowboys win I'm sure you'll just move the goal post back once again. And I have zero issues with Milano, he's one of the best in the league. My issue is more with your solution of the Cowboys getting him to replace LVE. The guy isn't available, has better DTs to help keep him clean, and he plays the weak side role whereas LVE plays the middle. Put Milano in Dallas at MLB and you probably see a player more similar to LVE than you realize.

Just watch Tremain Edwards in this Bills/Bengals game. Vacates his assignment and bites constantly. Let Jamar Chase run right by him into a wide open space. He just got driven 10 yards and pancaked by the TE. He's the Jaylon Smith of the AFC.
